Whirlix Design Inc. believes in the power of play and the crucial role it plays in a child's development.

About us

Whirlix Design Inc. was created to support the health and wellness of all children. Our goal is to provide kids an opportunity to “always be in motion.” We want to ensure kids of all abilities have a chance to play and interact together. Our partner Landscape Structures has been at the forefront of innovation for inclusive play since the 1970s, and together we design structures that allow all kids to have fun and grow together. At Whirlix, we strive to provide unparalleled customer service throughout the entire process. Our experienced team members will make sure everything is completed on time and to our customer’s expectations. We have the support of the industry’s best warranty on equipment. Our President, Jason Edmundson, started Whirlix in 2017 after spending more than 22 years working in commercial construction as carpenter, installer, project manager and general manager. After countless hours at playgrounds with his four-year-old son, Jason realized he could use his experience working with architects, school districts, park districts, developers and general contractors to make playgrounds more fun and inclusive for all, while helping children lead healthier lives. He partnered with Landscape Structures, and Whirlix was born.

  • The best playgrounds don't compete with their surroundings. They become part of them! Finch Park in McKinney, TX is a great example of how nature-inspired design can create a play experience that feels both intentional and inviting. Through a nature-inspired color palette, custom play structures, and carefully selected materials, the playground complement the park's natural character while encouraging exploration for children of all ages. The playground features a custom cabin play structure for children ages 2-5 and a custom Landscape Structures PlayOdyssey® tower for ages 5-12, along with play experiences like the ZipKrooz®, OmniSpin®, Rhapsody® Outdoor Musical Instruments, and shaded swings. Together, these elements provide a variety of physical, sensory, and social play opportunities that appeal to a wide range of users. Equally important are the design decisions that improve the overall visitor experience. While engineered wood fiber serves as the primary playground surfacing, poured-in-place rubber pathways provide accessible routes to many of the playground's most popular features. This thoughtful approach allows everyone the opportunity to navigate the space. Projects like Finch Park demonstrate that great playground design is about more than selecting equipment. It's about creating an environment where aesthetics, accessibility, and play value work together to serve the community for years to come. 📍301 Standifer St, McKinney, TX Find more playgrounds using our find a playground tool! 🔗https://lnkd.in/gn_GHyjG Want to make your dream playground a reality? • Age-appropriate playground design starts with understanding that children’s needs change as they grow. For ages 2–5, play environments can help build confidence while supporting early cognitive development, motor skills, sensory exploration, and social play. For ages 5–12, design can introduce greater physical challenge, problem solving, cooperative play, and opportunities for managed risk. When playgrounds intentionally provide experiences for different developmental stages, we can create spaces that continue to challenge, engage, and support children as they grow. Our latest blog takes a closer look at the differences between designing for ages 2–5 and 5–12 and why accommodating both is an important part of thoughtful playground design. 🔗https://bit.ly/4fRK3sU #PlaygroundDesign #ParksAndRecreation #LandscapeArchitecture #ParkDesign #DevelopmentalBenefits

  • Great parks don't just provide a place to play. They create opportunities for challenge, exploration, and community connection. Opened in June 2026, Al Rollins Park is a new 2.4-acre community park in Arlington, TX that demonstrates how thoughtful playground design can support active play while honoring the history of the community it serves. Located adjacent to the Southwest Branch Public Library, the park was designed around movement and challenge. The Landscape Structures Volo™ and Quantis® 8.2 play structures encourage children to build confidence through climbing, net play, and elevated exploration, while complementary play elements including the We-Saw®, We-Go-Round®, Oodle® Swing, spinners, and other integrated activities within the turf berm create additional opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and imaginative play. The result is a play environment that offers a variety of experiences for different ages, abilities, and play preferences, encouraging families to spend more time outdoors together. We're especially grateful to collaborate with our partners at Parkhill and the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department on a project that will serve the community for years to come. It is an honor to be part of a park that commemorates Al Rollins, whose leadership played an important role in the early growth and development of Arlington. Projects like Al Rollins Park demonstrate the lasting impact that thoughtful park planning, strong partnerships, and intentional playground design can have on a community. 📍3311 SW Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington, TX Find more playgrounds using our find a playground tool! 🔗https://bit.ly/3TU6oNV Want to make your dream playground a reality? • Great playgrounds do more than provide a place to play. They create opportunities for physical activity, creativity, social interaction, and community connection. Dixon W. Holman Park in Arlington, TX is a great example of how thoughtful playground design can bring these elements together in one engaging space. Designed for children ages 5-12, the playground features a dynamic play structure filled with climbing challenges, slides, and opportunities for active exploration. The design encourages kids to test their abilities, build confidence, and stay engaged through a variety of play experiences. A key feature of the playground is its integrated shade, helping create a more comfortable environment for families and extending the usability of the play space during the hot Texas summer months. The addition of Rhapsody® Outdoor Musical Instruments also introduces a creative element that encourages self-expression and interactive play for visitors of all ages. Projects like Dixon W. Holman Park demonstrate how community playgrounds can support outdoor recreation, healthy development, and memorable experiences for families while creating vibrant public spaces that serve their communities. 📍2409 Burney Pl, Arlington, TX Find more playgrounds using our find a playground tool! 🔗https://lnkd.in/gzxWeAMc Want to make your dream playground a reality? • Tarrant County communities have made remarkable investments in outdoor play — and we're proud to have been part of that story. We just published our guide to the Top 15 Playgrounds in Tarrant County, highlighting standout installations across Arlington, Fort Worth, Mansfield, North Richland Hills, and beyond. Each space represents a community's commitment to giving children safe, engaging, and inclusive places to grow — and a team dedicated to delivering on that vision from concept to completion. If your organization is exploring a new playground installation, renovation, or design-build project across North or Central Texas, we'd love to start a conversation. #playlsi #parkandrec #tarrantcountyparks https://lnkd.in/g3mvzUhk

  • From first steps to new climbing challenges, great playgrounds should offer something for every age and stage of play. Settlement Park in Round Rock, Texas is designed to serve a wide range of users with dedicated play experiences for both ages 2-5 and 5-12. Younger children have a space tailored to early childhood development with the Landscape Structures Smart Play® Motion play structure, while older kids are challenged by the impressive Alpha® Tower, a 20-foot structure that encourage climbing, confidence, and active play with climbing heights up to 12 feet. The vibrant green and blue color palette complements the park's natural setting, and the mature trees surrounding the playground provide valuable natural shade, creating a more comfortable environment for families throughout the year. Thoughtful playground design is about more than selecting equipment. It's about creating spaces that encourage physical development, offer age-appropriate challenges, and make the most of a site's existing natural features.
