The European Digital Humanism Initiative (EUDHIT)

Everyone agrees tech should serve people, not profit. But it's not easy to make investors care. At the Digital Humanism Conference 2026, we asked four experts how to align digital investment with a coherent ethical framework, similar to what already exists in green or ethical finance. They shared real examples and best practices for governance models, as well as a framework that investors can actually use, which is the result of a year-long EUDHIT study with investment funds, consultancies and policymakers. For policymakers, Digital Humanism offers a practical way to put people first when shaping digital policy — but knowing the principles is only half the job. A little excited about this one. Next week I will be speaking at the The European Digital Humanism Initiative (EUDHIT) Symposium in Bratislava organised by the Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies (KInIT) — a one-day event bringing together researchers, philosophers, and practitioners around a Responsible AI question I find genuinely interesting: how design choices shape human-AI interaction. I am joining a panel called "Designing AI systems for autonomy", alongside Martin Čambal (ESET) and Pekka Mäkelä (University of Helsinki). My angle is a bit of both worlds — rooted in my academic applied ethics research, and grounded by my daily work of translating AI Act obligations and ethical principles into governance processes, and embedding Responsible AI practices in development. Not a polished panel of consensus, as the organizers put it. The last discussion at the EUDHIT Symposium, titled “Designing AI systems for autonomy”, explores how AI systems can be designed to support (rather than undermine) human autonomy, trust, and responsible decision-making. The panel brings together perspectives from academia, regulation, and industry to examine how ethical principles can be translated into real-world AI development and governance. 🎤 Martin Čambal (ESET) leads AI initiatives focused on productivity, customer care, and scalable automation, with a strong emphasis on turning AI capabilities into measurable business impact and helping organizations adopt AI effectively. 🎤 Georgios K. (T-Mobile Czech Republic ) works on EU AI Act implementation and digital ethics, focusing on translating regulatory and ethical principles into practical governance processes and responsible AI deployment in business environments. 🎤 Pekka Mäkelä (University of Helsinki) researches the normative dimensions of social action, including trust, collective responsibility, and the philosophical challenges surrounding social robotics and human-AI interaction. “Should the interaction with AI feel human?” will be an interesting deep-dive into the growing trend of anthropomorphic AI design and asks whether AI systems should intentionally feel more human-like. As AI companions become increasingly conversational, emotional, and socially engaging, the discussion examines how these design choices shape trust, attachment, and the roles people assign to AI systems. 🎤 Katarína Marcinčinová (Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies) is an AI ethics researcher focusing on philosophy of mind, anthropomorphic AI design, and human-AI interaction, with a particular interest in how people perceive and relate to AI systems. 🎤 Daniela Vacek (KInIT/ Slovak Academy of Sciences) is an AI ethics researcher leading the APVV project TECHNE on intelligent technologies and their societal implications. Her work focuses on responsible AI development and human-AI relationships, and she is the 2025 ESET Science Award laureate in the category of Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia under 35. Together, they will question whether making AI feel human is desirable at all and what alternative approaches to AI design could better support healthy and responsible human-AI relationships.
