We talk a lot about 2050 But perhaps we need to talk much more about what are doing today and the next few years. Since the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report, global warming has continued to increase… GHGs continue to increase… The planet is accumulating more heat and climate extremes are becoming more pronounced. You just need to plan a visit to Europe this summer and you will experience this firsthand. But one thing we need to stop at: Our remaining carbon budget for a 50% chance of limiting warming to 1.5 deg C can be finished in around 3 years. Think about that for a moment. Think again. 3 YEARS We already have 2050 strategies and commitments. Yet the carbon budget associated with 1.5 deg C is being consumed today. This doesn’t mean that 2029 is some kind of climate deadline, or that we suddenly cross 1.5 deg C the moment the budget reaches zero. Climate science doesn’t work like that. But it does tell us: The longer we delay deep emissions reductions, the smaller our chance to survive. ➡️ Follow Majd Fayyad for more insights about net zero ➡️ Repost and share with your network Infographic: Indicators of Global Climate Change 2025
