Two things have to work in perfect sync for a body shop to automate its paint process: the robot and the coating. That's the foundation of our new global cooperation agreement with NST, a manufacturer of AI-guided painting robots for automotive refinish. By combining their robotic systems with our coating expertise, we are helping body shops move automated refinishing from concept into daily practice. The agreement builds on months of joint testing that confirmed both systems perform reliably together. Body shops across Asia-Pacific are already running them side by side, gaining efficiency and consistent quality in daily operations. Automation and coating expertise have long been treated as separate challenges in refinish. Together with NST, we are proving they work best when they are solved as one.

Surventis and Toyota Motor Corporation jointly presented developments in e-coat technology at the Global Conference on Car Body Painting 2026. The presentation focused on the co-development and implementation of CathoGuard® 800 TW, part of the Surventis CathoGuard® 800 e-coat family. Developed to meet increasing weatherability requirements while remaining compatible with established production boundaries, CathoGuard® 800 TW delivers enhanced weatherability, a broader curing window and the proven strengths of previous generations. In addition to its performance benefits, the technology helps optimize production through lower water consumption, reduced anolyte waste and lower maintenance requirements, supporting both operational efficiency and sustainability objectives. The presentation also demonstrated how close collaboration between Surventis and Toyota Motor Europe helped bring a new e-coat technology from joint development to successful industrial implementation.

Two decades of experience haven't changed one thing: John Ta still enjoys learning! After building a career that started in the polymers laboratory and now leading the Surventis Refinish Coatings business across Australia and New Zealand, he continues to look for opportunities to learn, whether that's helping customers prepare for new technologies, strengthening partnerships across the region - or stepping onto the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu mat. "As a 'fighter', it's humbling to start again and rebuild in a new fight system. At the same time, it's so refreshing to be new and to be learning." That mindset shapes the way he leads, listening first, staying curious and learning alongside his team, customers and partners. Together with Lufthansa Technik, we are taking the next step in the development of AeroSHARK. A Lufthansa City Airlines Airbus A319 is now serving as the world's first test aircraft for the next generation of the fuel-saving AeroSHARK technology. Until February 2027, around 70 transparent material samples will be tested under real operating conditions to provide insights for the further development of the technology. The next material generation is being developed for future applications on wings and tail surfaces, helping unlock additional efficiency potential for commercial aviation. With AeroSHARK, Lufthansa Technik relies on the riblet technology manufactured by Surventis. As part of Surventis, Chemetall applies its deep surface treatment expertise to support these solutions, helping the aviation industry operate more efficiently and sustainably.

For automakers, every layer brings new expectations for color, protection, performance and production. The surface has to express the character of the vehicle, stand up to real-world demands and work consistently at scale. Every decision has to support the vehicles being built today and the demands coming next. That takes a partner who understands your ambitions, your production realities and the pressure to make the right decisions in a changing market. Our mobility business combines coatings, color, application processes and digital solutions to help automitive OEMs move with greater confidence, from first color decisions to consistent application on the line. As Surventis, we can move faster and stay closer to our customers. We can put more energy into advancing the technologies, processes and partnerships that help improve efficiency, strengthen sustainability and support performance across the line and on the road. That is how we help our customers go further, with surfaces that perform, inspire, and create lasting value.
