Meet Brecht, who's joining us as our first Forward Deployed Engineer. He'll work closely with customers to build the integrations, automations and custom setups they need on top of Spott. He built an enterprise AI product at his own startup and worked on site with customers at some of the world's biggest telcos. This puts him in a unique position to shape this role. Bonus for customers near a good surf spot: you can expect a few extra visits. 🏄 Great to have you, Brecht!

When we were just 3 people, we often forgot to eat. So my mother started cooking us lunch. We're 40 people now and she still does it. Not sure how, but every Tuesday and Wednesday the food is there. It's the best food we eat all week. On those days, nobody works from home. You can see the mood shift when a home-cooked meal is served. The room gets loud in a good way. It's one of the few things that has survived every stage of this company, and it quietly carries the team more than we think. Mothers are amazing. So many sacrifices, and they never ask for anything back.❤️

Historically, the best recruiter over time was the one best at admin. The rep who updated every field after every call could still find the right candidate six months later. It came down to one thing: your CRM couldn't read a messy note or a half-filled field. "Garbage in, garbage out" was just a limit of the software. That limit is gone. Now the conversation is the data. You talk to the candidate, and the system fills the record from what was actually said. The best recruiter is now the one who asks the best questions on the call. Not the one who types the neatest notes afterward.

Our new US Account Executive didn't start in New York. He started in Belgium, sitting next to the engineers who build the product. Bill joined last week as founding Account Executive for the US. Week one was at HQ: shadowing engineering, learning how Spott actually works under the hood, and getting the kind of product depth you can't pick up from a deck. It was also my week to coach him 1-on-1 and learn how he sells, so we go into the US market in sync rather than figuring each other out over Zoom. 💪 He's already doing 6+ demos per day, and soon he'll know Spott like someone who helped build it. Great to have you, Bill!

The best engineers I've hired share three traits. None are on a CV. But they become clear once they're doing the work. 𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 Everything we ship has to beat what's on the market, and you don't get there from a task description. The good ones watch a recruiter work and come back with a better idea. 𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 They question whether something's worth building at all, before a line of code gets written. If I'm wrong, tell me. 𝟯. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝟴𝟬/𝟮𝟬 𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗽𝘆 Sometimes quick and dirty is the right call. But whatever they ship stays maintainable and extensible. Elegant systems > leaving a mess. Hiring more engineers who work like this. DM me if that's you.

I bought bikes for the whole team last week. Nice gesture, right? Since we changed offices, the good dinner spots are now a 20-minute walk away instead of the old 5. 20 minutes there, 20 back. So I put it in a spreadsheet. ~40 hours a week gone (=30' x 20 FTEs going for dinner x 4 days). A full-time hire whose only job is walking to dinner!? Didn't hesitate. Got everyone a bike. ROI = €6000 / €300 per month = 20x The team's still thanking me though. 🙌 p.s. even more ROI by carrying Dimitri on the front. 🚲

I closed 4 six-figure deals this year. Two went silent first. A deal rarely dies because someone stopped wanting it. It goes quiet because something changed and nobody told you. Now I do three things, to still close them: 𝟭. 𝗚𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽, 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 If the demo landed with the team but stalled with the board, the block is behind you, not ahead. I go back to the last real yes and rebuild from there. 𝟮. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗼'𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 Your main contact replying isn't the signal. The stakeholder who went dark is. I get to them directly, even if it takes a warm intro or a flight. 𝟯. 𝗣𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 Written objections harden. Spoken ones dissolve. Half the time "it's too expensive" turns into something we can solve once we're talking. A silent deal isn't lost. It's waiting for you to ask a better question.

  • Meet Bill, joining us as our Founding Account Executive for the US market. He's spent the last 3 years selling recruiting software, closing nearly 200 new agencies across the US and Europe in 2025 alone. He sold his first products on eBay at 13 years old and taught himself to refurbish and flip iPhones by age 14. That drive never left him. Now he's putting it to work building Spott's US presence from New York, bringing a bit of Ireland to every call. 🇮🇪 🤝 🇺🇸 Thrilled to have you, Bill!
