We recently had the honor and privilege of hosting our friends from the U.S. Navy and Royal Canadian Navy. This executive engagement was arranged by the Navy Office of Community Outreach (NAVCO’s) General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) team and gave active duty soldiers a first-hand look at the services we provide. Thank you for your service!

Meet Sarita, a scoliosis patient from Panama we were lucky enough to host and care for here in Portland. After they returned home, her mother shared a beautiful letter with us ♥️ "The other day my daughter looked in the mirror, smiled, and said to me, 'Wow, Mom, it’s gone,' pointing to the deformity in her ribs and back that the scoliosis had left behind. I was speechless; I cried out of sheer relief. Dr. Paranjape and Dr. Welborn, thank you for your precision and kindness. To the nurses, caregivers, therapists, Child Life specialists, housekeeping staff, security, cafeteria staff, hospital teachers and assistants: thank you for treating us with love and dignity. You do something with the children that feels like a miracle: you give them back their quality of life." #ChildHealth #ScoliosisTreatment #ScoliosisCare

In a state already known for its lush greenery, the staff at Shriners Children's Portland donned their best green gear, showing support on National Cerebral Palsy Day. The small gesture shows big support for patients with cerebral palsy, while creating awareness for more research, enhanced treatment, and better outcomes for kids with CP, according to Susan Sienko, Ph.D., an associate investigator conducting CP research at the Portland location. Investing in improved data and research coordination will lead to a better understanding of the causes and risk factors associated with CP; advance prevention, early detection and intervention; and improve treatments and outcomes across the lifespan, including cure pathways. More than 41,000 children with CP currently receive care across the Shriners Children's system.
