What can you say about the future of energy in just 5 minutes? On Aug. 20, RTI International’s Sameer Parvathikar will take the stage at #RTP180: Energy, joining experts from across the Triangle to share perspectives on the research, technology and innovation shaping our energy future. RTP180 gives each speaker just 300 seconds to make their case, and we’re looking forward to hearing Sameer’s perspective. RTI’s Accessible, Lightweight Power Sector Simulation Model (ALPSS) will also be featured during the event’s interactive networking hour. From Data to Decisions: Integrating Evidence and Managing Uncertainty in NAMs How do we know when a New Approach Methodology (NAM) is ready to support decision-making? As NAMs become increasingly common in research, product development, and regulatory applications, the challenge is no longer whether we can generate data, it is understanding how to integrate multiple lines of evidence, recognize the limitations of a method, and make scientifically defensible decisions using the available information. Join RTI’s David Hines for the first webinar in our series, Designing Decision-Ready NAM Programs. This session will explore: ➡️ Evidence integration across in vitro, in silico, and mechanistic data streams ➡️ Domain of applicability and why it matters ➡️ Sources of uncertainty in NAM-based programs, and ➡️ Approaches for building confidence in conclusions, and communicating limitations transparently Rather than focusing on whether a method “works”, we will examine the following important questions: ➡️ When does it apply? ➡️ How confident are we? ➡️ What conclusions can we reasonably draw? These considerations are increasingly central to developing human-relevant testing strategies that are scientifically rigorous, reproducible, and suited to real-world decision-making. https://lnkd.in/e6xwQnNv #NAMs #Toxicology #RiskAssessment #ComputationalToxicology #EvidenceIntegration #DecisionMaking #HumanRelevantScience

The next generation of researchers, engineers, analysts and problem-solvers is already making an impact at RTI. This summer, our interns brought fresh perspectives, curiosity and new ideas to work spanning research, data analytics, engineering, sustainability, business operations and more. Along the way, they explored emerging technologies, including AI, collaborated with colleagues across disciplines and contributed to work that advances RTI’s mission. As we recognize this year’s intern cohort, we want to say thank you, to our interns for the energy and talent they brought to RTI, to the mentors who supported their growth, and to the colleges and universities helping prepare the next generation of talent. We’re proud of what our interns accomplished this summer and excited to see where they go next. 40 years ago today, RTI’s defense research was making headlines. On August 5, 1986, The News & Observer reported that RTI and North Carolina State University had been selected for semiconductor research connected to the Strategic Defense Initiative, better known as “Star Wars.” The technologies have changed considerably since then. The connection between North Carolina research, innovation and national security has not. Today, RTI continues to apply science and technology to challenges ranging from advanced materials and protective technologies to warfighter health and performance. 40 years of research. And still looking toward what’s next. https://lnkd.in/eG2CJFay #DefenseInnovationUnit #NorthCarolina #Research #NationalSecurity #RTP

The next breakthrough in defense technology matters only if we can get it into the hands of the Warfighter. That challenge, and North Carolina’s opportunity to help solve it, was part of the conversation at RTI, where we welcomed U.S. Sen. Ted Budd and NC Chamber Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Alyssa Morrissey for a roundtable focused on attracting defense and dual-use companies to the state and strengthening North Carolina’s defense industrial base. North Carolina has many of the pieces needed to move defense innovation faster: major military installations, advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, quantum research, AI expertise and a strong commercialization ecosystem, which is helping connect companies and technologies with defense opportunities. The opportunity is to connect them. The proximity of North Carolina’s military users, researchers, manufacturers and technology companies can help shorten the distance between innovation and mission impact, and position the state to play a larger role in America’s defense innovation ecosystem. A big thank-you as well to Ryan Combs, Greater Raleigh Chamber, Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, State Chamber, U.S. Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory (Purush Iyer, Klint Snead), and the North Carolina Critical Technologies Alliance for helping make this event a success! New webinar series: Designing Decision-Ready NAMs Programs As New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) become increasingly important across toxicology, product stewardship, and regulatory science, a key challenge remains: how do we move from generating data to making decisions? In this three-part webinar series, RTI scientists will discuss practical approaches for integrating evidence, understanding domain of applicability, managing uncertainty, and designing NAM strategies that are fit for purpose. Topics include: ➡️ Evidence integration and confidence estimation ➡️ Human-relevant in vitro system design ➡️ Computational approaches for study design and applicability assessment Whether you're developing NAMs, evaluating them, using their outputs, or just curious, these sessions will offer practical perspectives on rigor, reliability, and real-world application. https://lnkd.in/e6xwQnNv
