Over the past two decades, performance in mining was largely impacted by price cycles, with booms masking inefficiency and downturns marked by cost-cutting. But the realities of mining are rapidly changing. This new era is marked by a number of challenges, from more expensive capital to slower approvals and more complex assets. These will remain persistent issues over the coming decade, reshaping the industry’s operating equation. #PartnersInPerformance #Mining #MiningTech #CapitalProjects

When high-contact service organisations are looking to reduce their cost base, strategic technology allocation plays a critical role in helping them achieve this goal. In our work, we look at two things to figure out where technology can make the biggest difference: how often a request comes in, and how much judgement it takes to resolve. The higher the volume and the lower the variability, the better suited a task is for automation. The reverse—infrequent requests that involve real judgement—is where human expertise adds the most value. That simple lens helps map every request to the right path, whether that's preventing it altogether, moving it to self-service, automating it end-to-end, supporting people with the right tools, or routing it to a specialist. The goal is to ensure both people and technology are working where they add the most value. Find out how we map this out below. #PartnersInPerformance #CustomerExperience #FinancialServices

We recently worked with a financial services organisation to help them achieve 20–30% cost savings by streamlining service operations. The result was a lower cost base and an improved customer experience without a reduced headcount. The key was identifying what activities drove value and where the most impactful changes could be made. Using available data (cost and productivity benchmarks, customer journey maps, etc.), we pinpointed the processes that needed updating to unlock employee capacity. Our goal was to ensure people were focused on what drove value, rather than getting bogged down in complex or repetitive processes. #PartnersInPerformance #CustomerExperience #FinancialServices

In high-contact service organisations, labour can account for up to 70% of total spend. When operational costs need to be brought down, one of the first instincts is to trim the team, which can directly impact the customer experience. Leaders who avoid this and instead adopt a pragmatic approach focused on streamlining processes, empowering self-service, and removing complexity, can reduce costs while freeing up their workers for higher value tasks that deliver better customer outcomes. This is especially true for industries like telecoms and financial services, where the customer experience is at the heart of a healthy business. #PartnersInPerformance #CustomerExperience #OperationalExcellence

Last week, Christine Janse van Rensburg moderated a panel at Coal and Energy Transition Day between some of South Africa’s biggest energy leaders. Their discussion outlined that the challenges facing the country are more complex than the simple framing of energy security vs. decarbonisation or economic growth vs. climate commitments. There is a real need to generate more power while keeping prices low to spur economic and job growth, and the question has moved from “what can we do” to “what can we deliver”. The panel shared their insights on these issues, including the cost to businesses if the energy transition moves too slowly, what credible transition plans look like for communities as well as organisations. One key item that everyone agreed on is that collaboration is needed, across organisations and government, to overcome these challenges, deploy new technologies, and increase generation. #PartnersInPerformance #EnergyTransition #CoalIndaba Resources for Africa Accenture

Aidan L. joined our team two years ago in North America and since then has worked across underground and open pit mines, gaining wide exposure to operations. He has showed us what unleashed potential looks like as he's built relationships with clients and colleagues across two continents and been promoted to Manager. From New Zealand to the United States, Aidan has gone above and beyond in supporting our clients while experiencing everything consulting has to offer. One standout moment for him was initiating a large production blast, roughly 132,000 lbs of explosives, in South Carolina. He has also had the opportunity to explore our client's locales, like hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in New Zealand, more infamously known as Mount Doom. A final reflection from our work with Momentum Group is the role trust plays in enabling delivery. Within Momentum Group’s federated structure, progress depended on building alignment across business units with full accountability for their own outcomes. This required taking the time to understand the organisation, work within its context, and build credibility with leadership. 🎥 Jeanette Marais reflects on how this supported the transformation journey. #Leadership #ChangeLeadership #Consulting #CostOptimisation #PartnersInPerformance
