For decades, building better shells has been one of the most interesting challenges in outdoor gear. Waterproof protection is easy. Breathability is easy. Durability is easy. Building all three into one piece that still feels light enough to move fast in the mountains... that’s the hard part. That challenge is what led to the development of the Skychaser Jacket. For this project, we partnered with Pertex® and their Shield Pro technology. The goal was simple: create a shell that delivers serious waterproof protection while maintaining the stretch, breathability, and mobility required for long alpine days. The result is a jacket designed for the moments when conditions change but the objective stays the same. Steep approaches, exposed ridge lines, unexpected weather, the environments where a shell stops being a “just in case” layer and becomes essential equipment. Innovation in the outdoor industry doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens through partnerships between brands, material engineers, designers, and athletes who are constantly pushing gear in real conditions. We’re proud of what the team at Outdoor Research and Pertex built together with the Skychaser. And we’re excited to see where it goes next.
Now that the competition has wrapped, we’ve had a chance to reflect. Watching our athletes compete at the highest level of winter sport is always a reminder of what sustained commitment looks like. Years of training, repetition, feedback, and focus distilled into a few moments on the biggest stage. At Outdoor Research, we are proud to support athletes not only in competition, but throughout the long build that leads there. The partnership, the product testing, the honest conversations, and the shared pursuit of progress are what matter most. Congratulations to our Olympians Zoe Atkin, Troy Podmilsak, Megan Oldham, Juliette Pelchat, Fin Melville-Ives, and Evan McEachran. We are honored to be part of the journey. #OutdoorResearch #MilanoCortina #Podiums #Olympics #BornInTheElements #BuiltOnTheTrail
How do you build the confidence needed to succeed at the highest level? At the beginning of one of the biggest contest seasons of her career, we sat down with OR athlete Zoe Atkin to chat about her roots and the mindset that’s carried her to the world stage. Zoe has been part of the Outdoor Research family for five years, and over that time she’s grown from a young standout into one of the most composed, technically precise halfpipe skiers competing today. Check out the full conversation below about balance, fear, confidence, and the passion that drives her on and off the snow.
Powered by Pertex®—and four decades of material innovation. Since 1979, Pertex has blended technical expertise across disciplines to rethink what performance feels like. In our Pertex styles, that shows up as lighter weight, smarter weather protection, and better breathability—so you can move efficiently, stay drier, and keep going when conditions turn. Our athletes know how to put gear to work. Last spring, we sent Ian Provo, Neil Provo, and Max Djenohan on a quick strike deep into Wyoming’s Wind River Range with a tight kit of Pertex-powered layers: the Cloudchaser 3L Kit, SuperStrand XT, and Super Alpine Down. With good planning and a narrow weather window, tricky approaches, couloirs, and high peaks loosened their grip—and the range opened up. Meet the Outdoor Research Glove Athlete Team. For decades, gloves and mitts have been a core part of what we build at Outdoor Research. Long before handwear was a headline category, we were designing technical gloves meant to hold up through real winter use—changing weather, long exposure, and high-pressure moments. That legacy shows up today in the athletes who trust OR gloves and mitts across competition, filming, freeride, and backcountry terrain. Your handwear has to work hour after hour, season after season, without compromise. As Chris King, VP of Brand puts it: “When athletes choose our gloves and mitts day after day, that says a lot. The Glove Athlete Team highlights that trust and the role our handwear plays from the backcountry to the terrain park and beyond.” Spanning Olympic, World Cup, and X Games competition, big-mountain freeriding, and long days filming in remote terrain, the OR Glove Athlete Team reflects the full range of environments where hand protection actually matters. “Warm and dry hands are mandatory,” says Austen Sweetin. “The right mitts have to balance warmth, dexterity, and durability—and do it efficiently. My OR mitts check all the boxes.” “When you find a pair you trust,” adds Malou Peterson, “they become something you don’t think about—and that’s exactly how it should be.” Introducing the OR Athlete Glove Team Roster: Ski: Malou Peterson, Alex Hackel, Megan Oldham, Evan McEachran, Fin Melville-Ives, Lucas Wachs Snowboard: Austen Sweetin, Juliette Pelchat, Bryan Fox, Truth Smith, Sarka Pancochova We're proud to support the athletes who put our handwear to work every winter. #OutdoorResearch #ORGloveAthleteTeam #Skiing #Snowboarding #BornInTheElements #BuiltOnTheTrail https://lnkd.in/gJbBX2Ke
