Decades of research suggest that offering #Medicaid home- and community-based services as an alternative to institutional care can advance several important state goals that Americans continue to value, including efficient use of Medicaid resources and support for beneficiary choice.

Congratulations to the California Department of Health Care Services on the first release of these behavioral health performance measures—an important milestone in California’s behavioral health transformation. Mathematica is proud to have contributed to this effort by developing and validating the technical specifications that underpin these measures. Excited to see this important work move forward.
🌟 Behavioral Health Performance Measures Now Available DHCS released the first set of statewide and county rates for performance measures under the Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA), California’s updated framework for improving mental health and substance use disorder care statewide. Developed with input from the Behavioral Health Transformation Quality and Equity Advisory Committee, counties, stakeholders, providers, community partners, and subject matter experts, the measures provide a clearer, more complete picture of behavioral health outcomes and will help strengthen planning efforts under the BHSA and supporting California’s Mental Health for All initiative. 🌟 By improving the completeness and quality of behavioral health data, these rates enhance transparency, help identify needs across systems, and guide data‑driven planning to better support Californians. 🌟 For the first time, counties and managed care plans have a clear, data-driven way to see whether behavioral health investments are reaching the people who need them most. This baseline of person‑level data will help drive measurable, transparent outcomes for communities most in need. 🔗 Learn More: Visit the DHCS website, https://lnkd.in/evrXzVQ5, to explore the full measure set and supporting resources. Every home- and community-based services system faces unique challenges. But many share the same goals: sustaining access, strengthening quality, supporting community living, and delivering person-centered services. Our team will be at the ADvancing States #HCBSConference from August 24-27 to share practical approaches for helping states and communities connect evidence to action. Stop by Booth #504 to talk with our experts about how we can partner to strengthen the HCBS that help people thrive! Explore our HCBS work and schedule time to chat with us at the conference: https://lnkd.in/exBD_87y

We’re excited to welcome Beth Boulay to Mathematica, where she’ll help advance our work with #education leaders and decision makers. “Beth is a luminary in education research and evidence building,” says Erin Fries Taylor. “Education leaders increasingly need evidence they can act on." https://lnkd.in/evyfmHqu

At the #SHEEO2026 Annual Conference, Mathematica researchers and practitioners from Georgia, Idaho, and Minnesota shared new findings and insights from a mixed-methods study examining student experiences and enrollment outcomes across redesigned admissions programs in the three states. The research highlights how redesigned admissions approaches can expand students' college options and strengthen their confidence in planning for postsecondary education. Programs that reduce administrative barriers, through simplified applications, guaranteed admission, and clear, timely communication, appear to have the greatest impact. The study also found that there is no one-size-fits-all model. A range of redesigned admissions approaches can benefit students, giving states the flexibility to implement strategies that fit their unique contexts while continuing to refine and strengthen them over time. Thank you to our panelists and everyone who joined the conversation about advancing college access and supporting student success. We appreciate the thoughtful discussion and shared commitment to improving postsecondary pathways for students. #SHEEO2026 #HigherEducation #CollegeAccess #StudentSuccess #EducationPolicy #Research Lumina Foundation

Home and community-based services are all about connecting people to the services and choices that help them thrive. At Mathematica, we're focused on connection, too. This month, we'll be at the ADvancing States 2026 Home and Community-Based Services Conference in Baltimore, connecting community voices, data, and evidence to help strengthen HCBS systems. If you'll be attending, we'd love to connect. Whether you're focused on quality improvement, community engagement, program implementation, Olmstead planning, or using data to drive better decisions, our team is ready to talk. 📍 Visit us at Booth #504—or better yet, schedule time with us before the conference. Learn more and request a meeting: https://lnkd.in/exBD_87y #HCBSConference

Congratulations to the Mathematica team! We look forward to working with HRSA to improve dental services for children.
This leading partner to HHS and CMS, that strives to deliver evidence-based solutions to optimize programs and policies for efficiency, cost savings, and measurable impact, was awarded an approximately 2.5-year task to support the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in improving access to dental services for children with neurodevelopmental disorders through its Quality Improvement Fund program (QIF-DNDD). ==>> https://lnkd.in/gbDHVDm5 Mathematica | Paul Decker

We're seeing more examples of AI moving beyond pilots to solve real operational challenges. In this case study, Mathematica modernized HCUP's legacy production workflow using agentic AI, reducing production time by nearly two-thirds while maintaining accuracy through expert oversight and rigorous validation. The result has been faster, more efficient delivery of one of the nation's most important healthcare data resources. It's a practical example of what AI can achieve when it's designed around real workflows, governed responsibly, and paired with human expertise. https://lnkd.in/eRhm_X7m
