A new study from MeHI Digital Health Sandbox partner UMass Chan Medical School & SimpliFed, a winner of MeHI's Women's Health Sandbox Challenge, is adding to the growing evidence supporting virtual lactation care. Studies like this demonstrate the value of MA's digital health ecosystem, bringing together startups & leading research institutions to evaluate innovative technologies in real-world settings. They also highlight how these collaborations can generate the evidence needed to support improved health care outcomes.
August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month, a time to celebrate, support, and advance the care that helps families achieve their feeding goals. New research from UMass Chan Medical School adds to the growing evidence that virtual lactation support works. The study found that families who received virtual feeding support experienced longer breastfeeding duration, reinforcing the value of making expert care accessible beyond the hospital and traditional office visits. For too long, postpartum support has been limited to a handful of touchpoints, even though feeding challenges, maternal mental health concerns, and recovery happen every day at home. Virtual maternal healthcare helps bridge that gap by connecting families with timely, evidence-based support when they need it most. We're proud that SimpliFed's model continues to contribute to the growing body of evidence demonstrating that expanding access to expert maternal care can improve outcomes for parents and babies alike. This Breastfeeding Awareness Month, we're reminded that supporting successful feeding journeys means supporting families long after they leave the hospital with accessible, continuous, and compassionate care. Read the full announcement below and learn more about how virtual care is helping reshape postpartum support. #BreastfeedingAwarenessMonth #Breastfeeding #MaternalHealth #Lactation #PostpartumCare #DigitalHealth #Telehealth #WomensHealth #HealthInnovation https://lnkd.in/e8mVZQpf

MeHI partnered with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) for this year’s Hack the Health Gap Hackathon, bringing together student teams to develop technological solutions that address challenges identified by community health centers across MA. Over six months, students worked alongside mentors, healthcare leaders & community partners who helped them design & refine their solutions around real-world needs. The winning team, CareStep, developed a digital tool that helpspatients experiencing food insecurity through personalized nutrition guidance & connection to local food resources. Conversations with patients & providers helped the team adapt its solution to reflect the barriers communities face, including language accessibility & access to healthy food.
