About us
GALLATIN VALLEY LAND TRUST connects people to the landscapes that surround us through the conservation of open spaces and creation of trail systems. Through our work we provide spaces for our community to get outside, protect habitat for our area’s most iconic wildlife species, keep working farms working, and offer world-class outdoor recreation from our Main Street to the Mountains, and so much more. In short, we preserve the very things that make the Gallatin Valley such a great place to live.

Earlier this year, GVLT's Northern Yellowstone Open Lands initiative secured an unprecedented $25 million federal grant. This funding was slated to compensate landowners choosing to conserve working farms and ranches, wildlife habitat, and scenic open lands in Park County, Montana, helping to protect an additional 20,000 acres of land and preserve the agricultural heritage and rural economies at the northern gateway of Yellowstone National Park. THE SETBACK: Before we could celebrate this historic opportunity, the grant was RESCINDED due to federal policy shifts. This reversal puts critical conservation momentum at risk in a region that has already lost nearly 40,000 acres of open land to development from 2000 to 2021. Read the full story from Montana Free Press: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gKSizb-P Our Commitment is UNDETERRED. This setback won't stop us. Our team is actively seeking creative solutions to fill this gap, including pursuing other grant opportunities and private philanthropy. If you are concerned about this news, YOU CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION. After you read the article, consider making a donation to support our undeterred commitment to this unparalleled landscape.

We 💗 our partners at OnSite Energy, Inc.! Check out this great feature on their 'Solar for Conservation" program. "OnSite founders Orion Thornton and Conor Darby, avid outdoorsmen themselves, started Solar for Conservation in 2017, a program within the company that currently donates a percentage of project proceeds to 10 Montana nonprofits. These groups have missions in land conservation, public land and water access, maintaining clean air and watersheds and wildlife protections. OnSite’s culture of conservation helped it become a certified B Corp, which recognizes organizations that operate at certain environmental and social standards." https://lnkd.in/gEhHajJq
