Imagine replacing a 110-year-old school while thousands of students continue learning just 15 feet away. When Beaverton High School opened in 1916, the city looked very different than it does today. More than a century later, Oregon’s oldest operating public school is ready for its next chapter. Working alongside Skanska, Goodfellow Bros. was proud to deliver the project’s heavy civil scope, completing the structural excavation, more than 36,000 linear feet of underground utilities, over one million square feet of fine grading for roads, walkways, and athletic fields, and a massive underground stormwater detention system that supports the new 295,000 square foot campus. Projects of this scale are only possible through strong collaboration across every trade. We’re grateful to Skanska and the entire project team for the opportunity to contribute to a campus that was engineered to withstand major seismic events and will serve as a Community Earthquake Evacuation Center when the Beaverton community needs it most. Schools are remembered for the lives they shape, the friendships they foster, and the memories made inside their walls. Most of us rarely think about what happens after we flush a toilet or drain the sink. That’s exactly the point. Beneath this neighborhood in Black Diamond, Washington, our crews excavated 26 feet below grade to build a sewer lift station that will reliably serve the Ten Trails community for decades. A carefully engineered shoring system, installed with our partners at United Rentals, Franklin Pacific Concrete Construction, and American Piledriving Equipment Inc. created a safe working environment for everyone building the structure below ground. When the project is complete, the lift station itself will be easy to overlook. Recently, members of our GoodDeeds Oahu team and their families volunteered at The Pantry, serving alongside fellow community members to help prepare and distribute food to local families. It was a rewarding opportunity to support an organization that plays such an important role in addressing food insecurity across Oʻahu. During the Fourth of July weekend, 93 volunteers came together at The Pantry to provide food assistance to 723 families, reaching 2,007 individuals throughout our community. Volunteering is an opportunity to be a vessel for kindness, compassion, and hope. Even a few hours of service can make a meaningful difference in someone's life. By helping those in need, we strengthen our communities, inspire one another, and remind ourselves that the smallest acts of generosity can have a lasting impact. Through our Volunteer Paid Time Off (VPTO) program, we empower employees to serve the communities where they live and work.
