Change begins with a conversation. In Aroma, Kassala State, community members across generations are coming together to talk openly about female genital mutilation, child marriage and the futures they want for their daughters. Through the Generation Dialogue approach, older and younger women and men are creating the space to question long-held norms, and finding that, across generations, they share a common hope: for girls to grow up safe, healthy and able to reach their full potential. This work is part of the regional programme Improving the Prevention of FGM in the Horn of Africa, commissioned by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, together with our partners HOPE Sudan and Norwegian Church Aid / Kirkens Nødhjelp. On 29 April 2026, IORA, in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (GIZ), will host the second webinar in its online workshop series on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for IORA Member States. This session focuses on “Setting up Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs)” and builds on the success of the inaugural webinar. This session will take participants through the practical steps of establishing and operating a PRO, moving from policy considerations to real-world implementation. The webinar will explore key aspects of PRO development, including governance, legal frameworks, data and financial systems, stakeholder engagement, and partnerships with municipalities, collectors, and recyclers. It will also highlight approaches to integrating the informal sector and share practical experiences from IORA Member States. The screening date, April 15, is in observation of the anniversary of the war in Sudan which began in 2023. 📌JAGDPARTIE (Hunting Party), 1964 Ibrahim Shaddad’s graduation film JAGDPARTIE, (which he shot at the Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst Potsdam-Babelsberg (now: Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF), is a treatise on racism. Shot in a forest in Brandenburg, it uses a Western look to portray the hunt for a Black man. DISCLAIMER: This film contains racist language and racist violence. 📌JAMAL (A Camel), 1981 The short film JAMAL (1981) is a report from the life of a camel, most of which plays out in a dreary, small room – a sesame mill. 📌AL HABIL (The Rope), 1985 AL HABIL documents two blind men making their way through the desert accompanied by a donkey. Connected by a rope, sometimes the two men decide the way, and sometimes the donkey leads them through the desert. With these screenings, we celebrate #Nairobi as a hub for a part of the #Sudanese community. After the screenings, Ibrahim Snoopy will be in conversation with Cristina Nord about various topics, among them how these films impact him as a young Sudanese film maker. On #InternationalWomen’sDay, we spotlight the women sustaining prevention and protection efforts across #Sudan.   They are women-led organizations and frontline responders strengthening community-based protection pathways in times of uncertainty. Partners establishing early warning and response systems against gender-based violence and harmful practices in Eastern Sudan. Dialogue facilitators and youth leaders advancing community decisions through Generation Dialogues, creating space for reflection, courage and collective commitment.   In fragile and rapidly changing contexts, prevention requires persistence. It requires trust. 🎧 At an Afternoon Cafe | Sarah Abdel Rahman   We begin this podcast series by spotlighting a woman whose work reflects both innovation and continuity.   In our first episode, we meet Sarah Abdel Rahman, a Sudanese art therapist, a Global Arts in Medicine Fellow and the General Director of Sarah Center for Training and Arts in Sudan. Over 18 years, she has provided more than 600 counselling sessions, using art rehabilitation to support children with mental disabilities - helping them heal, express themselves, and regain confidence. Since the outbreak of war in #Sudan, Sarah has shown remarkable leadership, bringing psychological support through the arts to shelter centres for displaced persons and war survivors, including children, young people, and women. She understands firsthand how art can be a lifeline for traumatised communities, offering hope, expression, and resilience even in the most difficult circumstances. Through art and therapeutic practice, Sarah has opened new pathways for emotional healing and empowerment. In this conversation, she reflects on how creativity can spark entrepreneurial thinking among Sudanese women, turning purpose-driven work into sustainable livelihoods.
