  • Building software for critical energy infrastructure requires getting the foundation and fundamentals right. Hugh Scott shares why quality starts long before software reaches production. It's built into every stage of the development lifecycle, from design through deployment and long-term support. That's the quality management system behind HybridOS® and the foundation of our ISO 9001:2015 certification. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eaCFWerk

  • The conversation around AI data centers often starts with how to deliver enough power. Increasingly, it also includes how to manage what happens when that demand changes in an instant. Recent grid events have highlighted how quickly large data center loads can disconnect during disturbances, creating sudden swings that grid operators must balance before they cascade. As more AI infrastructure comes online, maintaining grid stability will require more than simply adding generation. That's where intelligent battery orchestration can make a difference. By pairing battery energy storage with sophisticated software, operators can help smooth rapid changes in demand, support grid stability during disturbances, and give the broader power system time to respond. Large loads don't have to be an operational challenge. With the right software and storage working together, they can become assets to the grid. • Europe is a collection of dynamic, evolving energy markets, each with unique priorities, regulatory frameworks, and grid challenges. As FlexGen continues expanding across Europe, we're focused on partnering with customers to deliver software and energy storage solutions that help meet the unique needs of each market while supporting a more resilient, flexible grid.

One thing that has become clear to me is that there is not a single "European battery storage market". There are dozens of markets, each with their own priorities, regulations, and grid challenges.   That is what makes Europe such an exciting place to be at present.   Whether it is supporting renewable integration, strengthening grid resilience, or preparing for the growth of AI and data centres, battery storage is becoming an essential part of Europe’s energy infrastructure. The use cases may differ, but the need for flexible, reliable infrastructure is shared.   I recently had the opportunity to speak with Energy-Storage.news about what attracted FlexGen to the European market, how we are approaching the region, and why I believe Europe represents such an important opportunity for battery storage.   Thanks to Andy Colthorpe for the conversation.   Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/evyuUyEe   #EnergyStorage #BatteryStorage #GridReliability

  • Power has become one of the biggest constraints on new data center development. Across many regions, developers are facing long interconnection queues, limited grid capacity, and expensive infrastructure upgrades before projects can move forward. One approach gaining momentum is colocating battery energy storage with large loads behind a single point of interconnection. When paired with intelligent energy management software, battery storage can help smooth demand, maximize available grid capacity, and support a faster, more flexible path to bring new data center capacity online. The benefits don't stop there. Colocated battery storage improves power quality, increases operational resilience, and gives operators greater flexibility as computing demands continue to grow. Watch our latest video to learn how colocation is changing the way data centers connect to the grid. • At FlexGen, internships are about more than the work interns do each day; they're about creating opportunities to learn, connect, and grow. As part of our Early Careers Program, interns recently participated in Career Development Day, a program experience dedicated to professional growth and giving back to the community. Throughout the day, they explored topics to help prepare them for their careers before wrapping up with a bike-building service project benefiting the Durham Rescue Mission's Back-to-School Drive, helping provide local children with bikes for the school year ahead. To celebrate National Intern Day, the group also spent time together outside the office at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games. It was a fun way to recognize the relationships they've built throughout the summer and celebrate everything they've accomplished together. As our internship program begins to wind down, we're grateful for the impact this group has made across FlexGen and look forward to seeing what's next for each of them. Happy National Intern Day! #NationalInternDay #CareerDevelopment #CommunityImpact

  • HybridOS® is now ISO 9001:2015 certified. Battery energy storage sits at the center of critical grid infrastructure. That means its software must be built on robust quality systems that support long-term reliability. HybridOS® is ISO 9001:2015 certified for the design, development, deployment, and remote software support of our energy management platform, supporting customers across the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Finland, Sweden, and Ukraine. Combined with our alignment to European grid codes and international standards, this certification strengthens our ability to support battery storage projects across Europe and other global markets. • Last week's grid disturbance on PJM Interconnection, the largest wholesale electricity market in the U.S., was a reminder that reliability isn't only about adding more generation. It's also about how large loads interact with the grid when conditions change. When several gigawatts of data center load disconnected within minutes, the resulting voltage disturbance extended well beyond Virginia. As AI infrastructure continues to scale, events like this highlight why coordination between large loads, utilities, and grid operators is becoming increasingly important. Battery energy storage and intelligent energy management software have an important role to play. Rather than having a facility's grid demand effectively drop off in seconds, a battery can temporarily supply the load while energy management software coordinates a controlled ramp-down over the course of several minutes. That gives the grid more time to respond, reducing the impact of sudden load changes while maintaining resilient operations for the facility. As data centers become larger and more power-intensive, intelligent orchestration across batteries, generators, utility connections, and flexible loads will become increasingly important for both facility resilience and grid reliability. https://lnkd.in/eJdEqAMt #EnergyStorage #DataCenters #GridReliability

  • Texas just set a new all-time electricity demand record, and the grid handled it. As Zach Vosburg points out, the story isn't just record demand. It's what made that possible behind the scenes. Battery storage delivered more than 10 GW during the evening peak, helping ERCOT maintain reliability without emergency measures. As demand continues to grow, getting storage projects online quickly is becoming just as important as building them. Turning battery projects into reliable, dispatchable grid assets requires the right integration, controls, and operational expertise.

Texas broke its all-time power demand record this week. Nothing happened. That is the story. On July 22, ERCOT demand pushed past 90 GW, per the grid operator's preliminary data. The old record, 85.5 GW in August 2023, nearly triggered rolling blackouts. This time: no emergency, no conservation call, reserves above 20 GW, reasonable wholesale prices through the peak. How did this happen? Texas let new capacity in, mostly in the form of solar and storage. They've done it quickly. ERCOT projects 27 GW of storage by year end, up from roughly 5 GW in 2023, because its interconnection process lets batteries connect in months, not years. On the record day, that fleet discharged more than 10 GW into the evening ramp. Texas does not have access to technology that others don't. It did not out-invent other grids. It out-deployed them. The lesson for everyone building in this market: the grid opened the door, but getting from signed interconnection agreement to a dispatching asset in months is integration work. That is a partner decision, and it is now a reliability decision. How much schedule risk sits in your integrator selection?

  • The grid is being asked to do more than ever before. As AI and new data centers drive electricity demand higher, keeping the grid stable is becoming more and more complex. The 2025 Iberian Peninsula blackout showed how quickly a grid disturbance can escalate. Our latest video breaks down what happened during the blackout, why voltage regulation played such a critical role, and how battery energy storage can help grids respond faster when conditions change. Battery storage does more than store energy. When paired with intelligent controls, it becomes an active grid asset, providing real-time voltage support, frequency response, and the flexibility needed to support an increasingly complex power system. Watch the video to learn what happened, what the industry is doing differently, and why battery storage will play an increasingly important role in supporting tomorrow's power grid. https://lnkd.in/ebqcRj4T #EnergyStorage #GridReliability
