Last week, we celebrated Django turning 21. That means Django is officially an adult. In many countries, you'd celebrate a 21st birthday by buying someone their first beer. But Django doesn't need a beer. It deserves a birthday gift. For 21 years, Django has helped millions of developers build products, launch startups, learn web development, and grow their careers. The framework has given our industry far more than the cost of a drink. So here's an idea: Donate whatever one beer costs in your city to the Django Software Foundation. One beer. One small donation. A meaningful way to say "thank you" to the people who keep Django alive. If every Django developer skipped just one beer, we'd make a real difference. Happy 21st, Django. Here's to the next 21 years. 🦄 Django turned 21 last week! Which means that if you are in the US you can now officially "buy Django a beer"... I heard someone say before that Django has "bought the drinks" for the whole industry for 21 years! So here's my suggestion... Go and give $10 to the Django Software Foundation! The Framework is free to use! The Community is Brilliant and Thousands of Businesses are built on it... But only 30 or so companies regularly donate or contribute back! The least we can all do to say thanks is to give a birthday toast! One beer is roughly $10 💵 Happy 21st Django! 🍺 Cheers! 🦄 Most Python frameworks help you build APIs. Django helps you build products. That's the biggest difference. When people compare Django to other Python frameworks, they often focus on benchmarks, syntax, or performance. I think they're comparing the wrong things. Django was never just an HTTP framework. It's an ecosystem built around solving real business problems. From day one, you get: • Authentication • Authorization • ORM • Migrations • Admin Interface • Forms • Security • Sessions • Caching • Internationalization • Testing support These aren't "extra features." They're part of Django's philosophy. The framework assumes you're building software that will still exist years from now. Does that mean Django is the right choice for every project? Of course not. If I needed ultra-low latency or a highly specialized service, I'd happily choose a different tool. But for many production applications, optimizing developer productivity, maintainability, and reliability creates far more value than optimizing for a few milliseconds. That's why, after all these years, Django still feels different. Not because it tries to do everything. Because it tries to help developers ship complete products, not just endpoints.
