Here is the MYTH for Monday: “Charging my phone overnight ruins the battery.” We have been asked many times, “Is it bad that I leave my phone plugged in while I sleep?” For most modern smartphones, charging overnight is fine. Phones are now smarter about charging than they used to be. Modern iPhones and Android phones have built-in battery management designed to protect the battery while it charges. Your phone can learn your charging routine and delay charging past a certain point until closer to when you normally unplug it. Excessive heat can be harder on your battery over time than leaving your phone plugged in overnight. A few simple habits can help: • Use a quality, compatible charger • Avoid charging your phone somewhere that traps heat, like underneath a pillow or blanket • Turn on your phone’s battery protection or optimized charging features • Don’t stress about unplugging it the second it reaches 100% Technology is ever changing and some of the advice we’ve heard for years hasn’t caught up. 💡 Tech Tip Tuesday: Keep Your Screen Awake Longer! Does your phone screen keep going dark before you're finished reading a recipe, filling out a form, or following directions? A quick settings change can give you more time before your screen locks. iPhone: Open Settings Tap Display & Brightness Select Auto-Lock Choose a longer time (we recommend 2–5 minutes based on your preference) Note: If Auto-Lock is grayed out, Low Power Mode may be turned on. Android: (Instructions may vary slightly by manufacturer.) Open Settings Tap Display Tap Screen Timeout (or Screen Timeout & Lock) Select a longer time, such as 2–5 minutes What's one smartphone feature you've always wanted to learn? Let us know in the comments. We may feature it in an upcoming Tech Tip Tuesday! If Connect U has helped you, inspired you, or made technology a little less frustrating, we'd be grateful for your support. We're honored to be nominated for the SASS Choice Awards in Computer & Tech Services. Please continue to VOTE daily! https://lnkd.in/e3Uey8Y3

🚫 MYTH MONDAY Myth: “I can always tell when a text or email is a scam.” Reality: Even tech-savvy people get fooled. Scammers have become incredibly convincing. They use company logos, state seals, fake delivery notices, bank alerts, Amazon orders, toll road bills, and urgent messages designed to make you react before you think. One tiny click can lead to stolen passwords, financial loss, or identity theft. At Connect U, one of the biggest topics we teach in our workshops is how to recognize the warning signs before it’s too late. We don’t just tell you scams exist; we show you exactly what to look for using real examples like this one. 🛑 Before you tap a link, remember: • Slow down. • Check the sender. • Never trust urgency. • When in doubt, verify another way. Knowledge is your best protection. Have you received a scam text recently? Tell us what it looked like in the comments. It might help someone else avoid becoming a victim. #MythMonday #ScamAwareness #OnlineSafety #SeniorSafety #TechConfidence #CyberSafety #ConnectU #SimplifyingTechEmpoweringYou

💡 Tech Tip Tuesday Has this ever happened? Your phone rings. You hear it… but by the time you find it, the call has already gone to voicemail. Maybe it was your doctor. Maybe it was your child. Maybe it was an important appointment. That little moment of panic is frustrating, and it’s more common than you think. Here’s this week’s Tech Tip: If you sometimes miss calls because you don’t hear your phone, turn on Flash Notifications. Your camera flash will blink every time you receive a call or notification, making it much easier to notice. iPhone 1. Open Settings. 2. Tap Accessibility. 3. Tap Audio & Visual. 4. Turn on LED Flash for Alerts. 5. (Optional) Turn on Flash While Unlocked if you’d like it to flash even while you’re using your phone. Android (Steps may vary slightly depending on your phone.) 1. Open Settings. 2. Tap Accessibility. 3. Tap Flash Notifications or Flash Alert. 4. Turn on Camera Flash Notifications. 5. Test it by having someone call you. One simple setting can help you catch the calls that matter most. At Connect U, we believe the best technology isn’t the newest technology, it’s the technology that works for you. What’s one thing your phone does that drives you crazy? Tell us in the comments. It might become next week’s Tech Tip Tuesday! Last night the Connect U family had the honor of sponsoring and cheering on Miss Frederick, Alanah Fore, as she competed in the Miss Maryland 2026 pageant in Hagerstown. We are proud to congratulate Alanah on being named a Miss Maryland Semi-Finalist! 🎉 Alanah is more than an outstanding competitor. She is a passionate advocate for educating and empowering others. Through her Community Service Initiative, Think First, she is helping people understand the incredible potential of artificial intelligence while encouraging everyone to use it thoughtfully, safely, and responsibly. At Connect U, we’ve had the privilege of seeing that passion firsthand. Alanah has volunteered alongside us at one of our community technology workshops, sharing her knowledge and helping others build confidence with technology. Supporting people who are making a positive impact in our communities is something we believe in, and we’re honored to have been a small part of Alanah’s journey. Congratulations on an incredible accomplishment, Alanah! We know this is only the beginning, and we can’t wait to see the lives you’ll continue to inspire. 💙 Congratulations from all of us at Connect U! #ConnectUHelps #MissFrederick #MissMaryland #ThinkFirst #ArtificialIntelligence #CommunityLeadership #FrederickMD #EmpoweringCommunities

🎉 One Year of Connect U! One year ago, Connect U was founded on a simple belief: Technology should bring people together, not leave them behind. What started as an idea and one community workshop a month, has grown into something we could have only dreamed of. Today, we’re often teaching three workshops in a single week, while continuing to provide one-on-one tech support for individuals, families, and businesses throughout our community. Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of people build confidence with technology, form new community partnerships, and turn moments of frustration into moments of success. To every client who welcomed us into your home, every workshop attendee who trusted us to teach you something new, every community partner who invited us to present, and every person who has shared, referred, encouraged, or supported Connect U… THANK YOU! You are the reason we’ve reached this milestone, and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of such an amazing community. Here’s to one incredible year and to many more years of Simplifying Tech. Empowering You. #ConnectU #OneYearStrong #FrederickMD #Community #TechnologyMadeSimple #SimplifyingTech #EmpoweringYou
