The City of Farmington Hills is pleased to announce that Governor Gretchen Whitmer has reappointed Fire Chief Jon Unruh to the Michigan’s Public Safety Communications System Interoperability Board. This Board provides oversight and strategic guidance for the Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS), the statewide 800/700 MHz radio and telecommunications network supporting mission‑critical public safety communications. Members advise the Governor on interoperability needs and emerging technologies to ensure Michigan’s emergency response agencies remain fully prepared. Chief Unruh has represented the Fire Chiefs of Michigan on the Board since 2018. His reappointment extends through 2028. We congratulate Chief Unruh and thank him for his continued leadership and commitment to strengthening Michigan’s public safety communications infrastructure. #farmingtonhills #publicsaftey

The City of Farmington Hills is honored to be selected by the National League of Cities for the Pathways for Early Childhood Leadership initiative. This national recognition highlights the City’s ongoing investment in early childhood development and family‑focused services. As one of nine cities in Michigan and Tennessee chosen to participate, Farmington Hills will receive technical assistance, leadership training, and access to early childhood experts and peer networks. The initiative strengthens collaboration across municipal departments and equips staff with tools to enhance early childhood systems. “Our selection in this initiative will help strengthen our commitment to giving children in Farmington Hills the best possible start,” said Acting City Manager Karen Mondora, PE. “This partnership supports our work to expand programs, public spaces and opportunities for families.” The City continues to invest in high‑quality programs and facilities—from sports leagues and the Nature Preschool to The Hawk Community Center, the Nature Center and the Ice Arena—ensuring that children and families have access to enriching, supportive environments. This Great Lakes and Fresh Water Week, we recognize the importance of safeguarding one of the State of Michigan's most valuable assets: the Great Lakes, which contain 20 percent of the world’s surface freshwater and support millions of residents, jobs and ecosystems. The City of Farmington Hills Department of Public Services (DPS) plays a critical role in this effort. Through stormwater management, infrastructure maintenance and pollution prevention, the department helps ensure the water moving through our community remains clean before it reaches the Great Lakes basin. Great Lakes and Fresh Water Week emphasizes education, community involvement and long-term stewardship. This is a busy season for the City of Farmington Hills Division of Public Works. From patching potholes to roadside maintenance, the spring season is ramping up. The DPW recently welcomed two new laborers to the team, Cade Schauer (left) and DJ Lucas (right), who are pictured here with DPW Superintendent Derrick Schueller (center). If you see them or any DPW crews working along the road, please slow down and move over a lane if possible to ensure your safety, the safety of other drivers and the safety of the work crews.
