ADVANCING CAÑON CITY: An Economic & Development Summit Come explore opportunities and lifestyles in Cañon City! Some of the strongest development opportunities are found in markets others have overlooked. The next chapter of Cañon City’s economy will be built through enabling private investment and creating strong partnerships. Many rural communities were shaped by an earlier economy where small businesses and producers could make a living on lower costs, friendly communities, and balanced lifestyles. As commerce, industries, transportation patterns and commercial corridors changed over the last several decades, communities like Cañon City had to rethink how they compete, grow and create the conditions for renewed private investment. That work is now producing opportunity in Cañon City. Cañon City has spent years strengthening its foundation through long-range planning, downtown revitalization, infrastructure investment, riverfront connectivity and renewed attention to housing, community growth and public private partnerships. Significant private investment is already occurring, and major development areas now offer the potential to build out our comprehensive plans and meet demand that has not yet been fully served. The next step is converting that momentum into enabling and strengthening private sector economies of housing, business and industry attraction, jobs and a broader, more self-sustaining local economy. That is the focus of ADVANCING CAÑON CITY: An Economic & Development Summit, August 12–13, 2026. We are inviting anyone interested in exploring Canon City: families, developers, real estate investors, employees, employers, entrepreneurs and startups, state and federal partners, lenders and community-development professionals to explore the opportunities emerging in Cañon City. Discussions will include the Four Mile Ranch and the Holy Cross Abbey development areas, downtown and riverfront development infrastructure improvements, growing regional industry connections, public-private partnerships and the investments needed to support the community’s next phase of growth. Come hear from and meet the development owners themselves as well and members of the development ecosystem bringing these partnerships together. Cañon City offers a balanced, unbelievable quality of life that is off the beaten and offers available land, unmet market opportunities, improving infrastructure on a coast-to-coast commercial corridor, distinctive community assets with amazing historic charm, and local leadership committed to helping responsible development succeed. Join us August 12–13 and help shape what comes next. There is so much in the works in Cañon City. If you haven't been here in a while, you're missing out on one of Colorado's most historic communities that feels a bit like stepping back in time where a simple walk on Main Street brings you to the heart of the community, to friends, to smiles, to meaningful conversations and a settled, peaceful pace. It's also a city with intentional design, and meaningful, patient investment by investors like Unbridled, who's vision and dedication to community is enriching our downtown and gaining recognition around the country and overseas. Change is not always easy or accepted in a smaller community, and change for the sake of change is highly ill advised. But intentional design, patience, and deliberate partnerships will help us grow as a community, the way that best fits our needs, our culture, and our community desires. It's rare to have investors like Unbridled partner with a rural community, but it's magical when their vision matches ours as a community. We should honor their investment, their patience and their dedication, because we are better for it. Come check this out! Thank you Unbridled team! Very well done!

During each grant cycle, Energy/Mineral Impact Assistance Fund (EIAF) applicants from around the state meet with DOLA staff and the EIAF Advisory Committee (chaired by Division of Local Government Director Eric Bergman) to present their proposed projects, which help meet their community infrastructure, public safety, housing, economic development, and resilience goals. This time around, we’re meeting in beautiful, historic City of Cañon City. It is always such a privilege to meet the passionate people behind the applications and reconnect with colleagues, committee members, and local officials face-to-face. Thank you so much to Cañon City Administrator Ryan Stevens, Town Clerk Cindy Foster Owens, Deputy Clerk Denise Warren, and the Cañon City IT department for hosting us. Also a big thank you to the EIAF Advisory Committee, to DOLA’s Regional Field Team for all the work you do to support these communities, to DOLA staff who were instrumental in organizing the hearings, and to all community representatives who braved the weather to present your amazing projects. We can’t wait to share the Tier II awards with you soon!
