A live tennis tournament is a brutal place to lose power or core networking. When the courts are live, the network is carrying far more than guest Wi-Fi. Live scoring, broadcast, media, and the systems around the tournament all depend on it. Robert Nichols, Principal Technical Architect for the Cincinnati Open, walked me through the two calls he never wants to get and how they’ve prepared for them. A secondary MDF helps maintain operations across most of the site if they lose a building or power source. Cisco Meraki and Catalyst give them the foundation to keep up as bandwidth demand grows. The sticker shock of completely unexpected AI usage bills is very real. It is fast becoming the number one worry for customers and one that I hear almost every day. You can’t treat AI consumption like a fixed cost. Agents can burn through millions of tokens in minutes, then add load on top of that across data, network, and security systems. Some threat actors really need to learn how to prompt. Talos recovered attacker prompt logs and other AI artifacts to learn how they bypass guardrails, build and scale capabilities, and automate workflows. While their frustration levels with the chatbots were occasionally amusing, more skilled actors were able to generate sophisticated malicious outputs. Today we are taking another step toward building a stronger Agentic SOC as WideField Security Inc., is now officially part of Cisco and Splunk. WideField’s technology helps correlate identity, session, and activity telemetry from a variety of sources, including signals from Cisco Identity Intelligence. By normalizing identity and session telemetry, we can enable the Agentic SOC to detect and respond to threats at machine speed and scale. AI won't fix a broken workflow. It will accelerate it. That sounds simple. The implications aren't. Before you bring AI anywhere near your operations, you have to do the harder work first: asking what the workflow is actually trying to do, what the customer really needs, and what needs to be rebuilt from scratch. That conversation is more difficult than any technology decision you'll make. I got into this and a lot more with former Humana CIO Sam Deshpande on the Techfluential podcast from The Wall Street Journal and Deloitte. We also talked about clock speed. In every previous technology wave, you built your infrastructure stack and left it alone for two, three years. That's gone. Now you're swapping out models constantly, and the underlying infrastructure is always moving. Most organizations are still treating AI like a deployment. It's not. It's a practice.
