Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics show knife-enabled offences fell 9% to 50,430, marking a second year of decline 📉 At the Ben Kinsella Trust, we welcome this progress, but every statistic represents a person affected, and levels remain 54% higher than a decade ago. Now is not the time for complacency. Sustained prevention, education, and youth engagement remain vital to keep young people safe. Violence against women and girls is a serious issue that affects every community. Last year for the 16 days of activism to end gender-based violence, we asked men to make a pledge and help build a safer, more equal Islington. There were 3 pledges men could make, including: • “I pledge to complete training that helps me understand the causes of violence and how to challenge harmful behaviour.” • “I pledge to learn about the different forms abuse can take and stand against it in all its forms.” • “I pledge to speak up, share what I’ve learned and support other men to take action too.” Many men want to challenge harmful behaviour but don’t always know how. This campaign offered practical ways to learn, speak up and support women and girls. During the campaign we saw: • 51 pledges made, including staff from the London Fire Brigade Metropolitan Police Whittington Health and The Ben Kinsella Trust • over 400 attendees at training courses run by the council during the campaign period • 558 visits to our campaign webpage This campaign is just one example of how we’re working together to create a safer, more equal Islington for all. Find out more about how we're making it happen in the link below.

Trust isn’t built with authority; it’s built by meeting people where they are. We recently spent an afternoon on patrol in South London with Faron Paul and the FazAmnesty team to see their work in action. From the gates of Croydon College to the West Croydon bus terminal, we witnessed firsthand what community-led intervention looks like. The impact was visible in every interaction: • Real-time intervention: Within minutes of arriving, a young person approached Faron to surrender a large knife — no warning, just a quiet moment of trust that potentially saved a life. • Community presence: From parents offering thanks to local TikTok creators stopping to film, the team’s presence broke down barriers and created a safe space for young people to respond. • Mentorship in motion: Seeing young volunteers train for security qualifications while on patrol shows how FazAmnesty provide more than safety; they offer mentorship and a professional roadmap for the next generation. At Axon, we believe technology should support prevention as much as response. By equipping the team with Axon body-worn cameras and a new community engagement van, we’re helping FazAmnesty expand its reach to more streets, more schools, and more lives.
