Most people think deodorant and antiperspirant are the same. They’re not. From a scientific perspective, the difference is quite interesting: Sweat itself is almost odorless. The smell only develops when skin bacteria break it down. That’s why deodorants focus on odor control: They target these bacteria or mask the smell – without affecting how much you sweat. Antiperspirants, on the other hand, take a different approach: They act at the level of the sweat glands and temporarily reduce sweat release and also protect from odor formation (by targeting/reducing bacteria).
