America Makes was honored to host Governor Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jim Tressel during their Heart of Opportunity Tour stop in Youngstown, OH! The future of innovation is being built right here in Ohio. Together with leaders from manufacturing, academia, economic development, and local and state government, we celebrated Ohio’s exciting achievement: Ohio is CNBC’s Top State for Business. Tressel moderated the panel discussion featuring Governor DeWine, Barb Ewing, YBI, and Alex Hertzer, MVMC Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition, whom highlighted powerful momentum across the Mahoning Valley and the state - continued job growth, cutting‑edge advances in manufacturing, workforce development initiatives, and strong business investment fueling Ohio’s economic strength, most recently the Youngstown Innovation Hub for Aerospace and Defense. America Makes, the Department of War's National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, is proud to serve as a convener of industry, academia and government to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing for the nation's security and global manufacturing competitiveness.

America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing & Machining (NCDMM) (NCDMM) are proud to announce the winner of a recent project call worth $5.5M in funding. Generation Of Technical-data for High-strength Aluminum Alloy Material (GOTHAAM) is funded by the Department of War Manufacturing Technology Program (OSW ManTech). Its objective is to develop material allowables for a high-strength, 7075-T73-equivalent aluminum alloy across three classes of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing (AM) systems, enabling scalable production on small, medium, and large-format printers. By delivering a corrosion-resistant, aerospace-grade alloy with broad defense and commercial applications, GOTHAAM will develop ways to generate a strong return on investment for original equipment manufacturers and the organic industrial base as it transitions into qualified production.
