This shift in hiring is fascinating to me. A recent piece from Business Insider highlighted something many hiring leaders are starting to acknowledge: managers aren’t reading resumes the way they once did. Why? Because the surge of AI-generated applications has created a wave of submissions that look almost identical. Perfect formatting. Polished language. Keyword optimized. But when every resume looks perfect, it becomes harder to identify what actually matters: real capability. From our vantage point at Accountants One, this is an observable trend across the accounting and finance hiring market. Organizations are placing less weight on the document itself and more emphasis on evaluating real-world ability. We’re seeing companies lean further into: • Skill-based assessments • Real-world problem solving • Trial projects or working interviews • Deeper conversations about how someone actually created impact This reinforces something we have believed for a long time: A resume is just the starting point. What ultimately differentiates professionals is: • Demonstrated impact in prior roles • The ability to communicate expertise clearly • Cultural alignment with the organization (more important than ever) • Insights you only uncover through real conversations Technology will continue to reshape hiring in countless ways. But the organizations that consistently make the best hires still rely on something much harder to automate: Human judgment.
