The master of taking a simple concept and making something unique out of it, Mr Minters work is both primitive and complex. Voidrunner is a centipede clone at first glance, then you're shooting down, then in all four directions then it gets really difficult. Graphics are very basic with VIC20 level sprites and sound is forgettable. But its the arcade simplicity that makes this such a good shooter. This is easily my favourite Minter game on the 64, simple yet addictive and a must own. It was also just two quid and rates as one of the very best budget games on the system.

Another overrated Minter game. This is probably one of his worst. It looks and sounds, AMAZING. There's eye candy and weird noises everywhere. But the game is no fun to play at all. It's very dull and very repetitive.

Very psychedelic and absolutely astonishing gameplay. Funny sounds and a barrel load of fun.

Another underrated Minter gem. Voidrunner is an adaption of Centipede and the sequel to Gridrunner. The player controls a formation of small spaceships and must keep fast-moving rows of enemy creatures from reaching the bottom of the screen by shooting them. To spice things up, a horizontal laser line is constantly moving up and down the screen. Sometimes it splits into two lines that can kill your ship if you get caught in it so you not only have to shoot the baddies and dodge their bullets and bombs but also keep an eye on the dreaded laser. Graphics are in typical early Minter style, read, colorful and flashy but quite crude. Sound effects are excellent, I really love Minter's bleepy f/x inspired by Jarvis-DeMar-games like Defender and Robotron 2084. Don't let the bland look of the game put you off, there's PLENTY of challenging and fast-paced gameplay to be found in it, at least I always found it extremly addictive. 8/10.

So-so. I actually enjoy the graphics somehow. The bulk of the fun for me is getting past each level to see what the next level is called (yak, llama, etc). Sort of like the arcade game Tron where each level has a name.

Although I'm quite a fan of Minter's games I must admit that THIS HERE looks and plays like crap.

All Minter games were absolutely fantastic... ONLY if you played them just before you passed out due to an overdose, that is.

As usual when it comes to the Jeff Minter games... Poor graphics, shitty sound and baaaad game-play. Naw, that Minter dude was highly overrated back in the days...

Minter at his best... Coloured, fast, destructive, flashy, special. Essential. 8/10
