This definitely reminded me of those movies produced in the late 90s to the early 2000s in Hong Kong. How cold, distant, and sombre feelings this movie evokes, makes one go into a relaxed state. It is a slow burn, and you need to be in the right headspace to enjoy this one. The complaints I had with this movie was the topic(s) of the movie, it was something we have seen in movies earlier too. For some reason I thought the two leads will develop affection towards each other as they share the same fate, but I could not have been more incorrect, may be it was how it was promoted and the poster designs. The theme felt decently explored and lots of time spent discovering more into it, but it was shallow even in its deepest conclusions. The imagery of the film was very naturalistic, with long single takes, and barely any camera motion, which played along with the film's tone.
Overall this movie will not appeal to the regular Indian audience, but to cinephiles and people who want something, but the people who will watch this movie, have already watched many films on this theme done in much better way. This movie over the years can blend in seamlessly with those cinema for youngsters trying to explore the world of cinema.

It's been ages since an Indian movie kept me guessing the whole time. This one's far from predictable.
The story itself is pretty straightforward, but the way they tell it? Genius! It jumps around a bit, but in a good way that keeps you on your toes. Vijay Sethupathi is fantastic as this dad trying to pick up the pieces, but seriously, Anurag Kashyap blew me away. I wasn't expecting such a big role from him, and he totally steals the show.
The writing deserves all the awards. They somehow made a simple plot twisty and mind-bending. Just when you think you know what's happening, the rug gets pulled out from under you.
If you're tired of the same old Bollywood formula, Maharaja is a must-watch. It'll keep you guessing until the very end. Just be prepared to have your mind messed with in the best way possible!
