I wanted this show to be good. I made it through I think 5 episodes before I had to stop. It just isn't good. Dr Wolf (Zachary Quinto) is ok, but all the other recurring actors are hampered by terrible scripts, a flawed repeat of the premise already used with tremendous skill by "House".
Both House and Wolf have 3 adjunct doctors, but the 3 on Brilliant Minds are weak at best. Pablum in action. Wolf and his crew focus on their sexual identities more than ever before. The scripts and acting remind me of a soap opera format. I didn't watch soaps when I was 45, let alone now.
It seems to me that LGBTQ has taken over many of the new TV shows. The interactions between doctor and patient are far more interesting that the sexual angst between doctors on this show. These interns on brilliant minds are immature and uninteresting.

I started watching this first thing. Kathy Bates is a marvelous actor. As I was watching, I had to ask myself "But where is Kathy Bates?" The show seemed very flat and suffered a lack of imagination and a true desire to make a good show. But do not be fooled or disheartened. This episode has a fake ending! If you stop there, you won't get it!! But if you continue, the ghost wakes up. I can only compare it to "Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. You wait until the end, when you almost turn it off before it's over, to discover the gem. Kathy Bates gets it. I only hope the rest of the cast steps to the plate and hits the ball in bounds!
I finally finished the first segment of Costner's project to show the growth of the West. At first I found it rather boring. But I rarely quit on a movie if it has some good reviews.
The overall question I have is "Where was Costner?" I love his movies. "Dances With Wolves" is my example.
Mr. Costner was everywhere in that movie. I have read where he met a lot with various groups in the movie to thoroughly discuss his view. Spent continuous hours on all aspects - the language, the culture, etc. He was so involved that watching him pulled you into the tepee or buffalo hunt with him. There was no feeling of that in this first segment. His character was bland and appeared to be an unnecessary add on.
My first main complaint is the casting. Perhaps Mr Costner needs to get a new casting director. In particular the lady playing Marigold quite simply cannot act. She needs to return to the fashion runway! Her scenes with Costner could and should have been much better. What's with her climbing on top of him and he sleeps? I got the impression that actors were merely reading script. Costner is Costner. Very low key. He must have dynamic actors interacting with him.
I agree with others that there is a major issue with editing. It was choppy and at times incoherent. New characters come in and out, making this very choppy at times. Glad Wikipedia has a good writeup!
The episode was totally pulled together for me watching the lead in for the second installment. Now I get it?
Where was the beautiful west? I would have expected expansive shots and scenery to show the beauty and expanse! Not there. But surely that should be a part of the story??
Finally, I dislike gratuitous sex scenes. Are they added to give some viewers a little titillation?? If they don't lead anywhere, just drop them. They are confusing and just not very good. Don't throw in unnecessary scenes please.
