Chastity High is a mind-boggling disaster. I watched the entire series hoping for a reality check, but it never came - even in the final 15 minutes of the last episode I still held out for one, alas... This show promotes teenage pregnancy and devalues the education system, which is scary. It's set in Japan, a first-world country that apparently has run out of real problems to tackle.
The premise is flawed: why must high school students fight for their right to sexual/intimate relationships? Can't they wait until they finish high school, go to university, and then have the freedom to make their own choices? Isn't that the idea - to delay intimacy until they're older and more mature? These are 14-17yrs olds. I shudder.
The rule wasn't about banning love, but about delaying its physical expression. Yet, the show insists on pushing this unhealthy narrative. The main character's audacity is staggering, especially after extorting and shaming others due to her own daddy issues. It's a classic case of immature writers making decisions about life without experiencing it themselves. Overall, Chastity High is a cringeworthy and misguided attempt at exploring complex issues.

The pilot held my interest, and made me want to watch more, but the disappointment started in the second episode. I took me days to get through each episodes. I found the show boring; long winded, unnecessary and dull. The dialogue was mostly amateurish, felt like I was watching a children's show. (At different points in the show, I felt like I was watching an episode of Netflix's "The Worst Witch.") Yes, it went downhill like that.
I liked the Death episode best, it felt grown up. The dialogue was good. Then they introduced Rose and her brother, and I was thrown back into watching a show for kids. All in all, the show had its good moments, which could have been summed up in a 90 minutes movie, the rest was just purely unnecessary.
*Oh, and I almost threw the whole show away watching the episode were Constantine gaslighted Morpheus while trying to save her friend, phew.

This movie was really good, and not just compared to Nigerian standard, it can hold its weight internationally. For me, I use it from the lens of the multiverse. The protagonist's consciousness was thrown into an alternate reality after having a NDE, were he lived as himself in this other reality, that was similar and also different from his current one. It was so much this movie made me want to explore; like how the other alternate Sumni fared after the main Sumni awoke out of that reality.
All in, I liked this movie a lot; I thought they did a wonderful job in the acting and storytelling. But I just, for the life of me, I couldn't get past the bread sellers Yoruba. Lol. What was that accent? It grained on my nerves so much so that, It reduced my enjoyment of the movie a notch, which, again, was good stuff. Why didn't they just allow her speak normal Yoruba! It sounded so off and unnatural to me. However, she acted her part excellently.
The main protagonist, Sunmi, performed his role well too. The movie dialogue was meaningful and realistic (almost a first for a Nigerian movie) and worth following. All in all, wonderful movie with a wonderful ending. But I give a 8 because I just couldn't get past the one Yoruba accent. Lol.
