Mea Culpa! I kept this one on the 'watch when you have a spare minute' pile. Big mistake. Quality acting, great story, excellent cast. Truly, watch this show. It's proper grown up tv which doesn't take you for an idiot. Friends agree.
To me, it started off like The Expanse. Don't get too comfortable with the characters in the opening episodes. From there, it progresses to a police procedural but with overtones of a bigger picture that you only get hinted at in the first few episodes.
For sci-fi fans, this is not new territory but the story is. It ropes in 1984 for sure. After that, you get Agatha Christie but all the time, it does feel new. Watch.

I didn't know what to expect when I started watching this. Ok, so it's not about all the point and shoot at bad aliens invading (as we've seen and read all that so many times before) but what is it about?
It's about a wide range of people and how they are forced to cope with the invasion. Yes, there are stand-offs but it also looks at the wider picture of how govt and people react around the world. It was great to see how cultural differences affect people's reactions.
Stick with it. The plot development is believable. There is one episode involving the family in the farmhouse that is some of the best horror/thriller you'll find anywhere on tv or in the movies. Kudos to the actors and crew on this one. Superbly done!

I'm amazed by some of the negative comments on here. This is not a barrel of laughs movie. Sure, it's got some snappy one liners but this is English humour at its best. Subtle. Like them up on the screen are letting you in on the joke but not a slap in the face with a cream pie. This isn't Vaudeville, you know. Christie fans will love all the Easter eggs with respect to references to her other stories and even to the Poirot television series. Seriously, the tenants in that block of flats in West London must all be getting some royalties for the number of times it's appeared on film. Enjoy this for what it is. A comedy mystery. Sure, it ain't Hamlet...but we knew that, didn't we?
