The original had so much heart and soul. It was a simple plot, with an epic story. And I was so excited for Part two. But was quickly disappointed. Part two felt so clunky. It was packed full of quick action scenes, lots of characters, annoying dialog and a plot that was so boring and predictable. Where's the originality? There was also so much CGI. And these odd slow motion scenes that felt very out of place.
I love Denzal Washington in this movie. It was the only thing I liked about it. And he felt like the only person actually "acting". He wasn't just saying lines, it felt genuine. And his role was really good. But everyone else in the entire film felt like they were reading a script. With no heart and soul. And unfortunately Paul Mescal was not the right actor for the lead role. Yes he looks and talks a lot like Russel Crowe. But he does not have the talent that Russel Crowe has. Nothing about him felt like i'd want to follow him into battle. And I could not feel this "rage" that he felt towards Rome. He barely showed any emotion. And had very few lines.
I had a hard time finishing the movie. The gladiator scenes were very grand and different compared to the first. They upped the scale. They were entertaining to watch. But the rest of the movie was hard to swallow. And so predictable to the point of being boring.

I binge watched this show, all ten episodes, and it ended too quickly. I really hope the series continues.
Funny Woman is a perfectly balanced series. That's down to earth, feels relatable and flows nicely with twists and turns. The first episode was a little clanky coming out of the gate, but it really picked up right after. We follow Beatrice Parker as she tries to make her way to fame as Sophia Straw. Through this journey we see the struggle to be a woman in this era and her own self discovery as a human being. The story is well written and compelling. It makes the series light even though it covers heavy topics. Its fun and enjoyable to watch. And above all the cast is perfect. There's not one actor I didn't like, everyone flows perfectly well together and makes a wonderful balance.
Its always fun to get a glimpse at what it would be like to be a normal person, struggling to get a role in the industry, and then becoming famous. We see the development of the character and those around her. It's a fascinating and fun story to watch. And feels completely relatable.

My friend dragged me out to see this in theaters. I'm not a fan of musicals in the slightest. And I really figured this movie would torture me. But as I sat and watched it, the movie blew my socks off. It really hit deep on the heart strings as I almost cried at one point. It captivated my attention all the way through. And the creativity of it was very well done. I really, truly enjoyed it. And its a great movie for the entire family.
My only complaint is the beginning felt a little rocky. With the big opening song and very staged feel. But when it got to the wicked Witches story and we finally got to the school it really improved in quality. And the depth of the relationships in the movie was very cleverly written. The sound track is fantastic and some of the songs really get stuck in your head. I'm excited to see part 2.
