We all give everything to them, and what do they give to us? It's a film about the sacrifices we make for these three important things in many people lives, and the hollowness they give back to us in return. Is what we get in return worth those sacrifices? I think that is ultimately the question at the heart of this film. This is a self described "triptych" of stories by Yorgos about these things that he made while "Poor Things" was in post production. This is not going to be a film for everyone, hell it isn't going to be one for most. It worked for me though. The absolute banality of the most important aspects of most of our lives, and how much we give to it, only to receive so little in return is something worth exploring, although I'm not so sure most will want to. It's a disturbing (although aren't most of his) tale of three stories all involving the same actors in each story, that has all the same actors for a very specific reason, because each tales' subject matter involves facets of of our lives a lot of us adhere to. Again, the film isn't for everyone, but I loved it.
I've been reading reviews that say this guy knows he's making "camp" films these days and I just gotta say, I don't buy it one bit. This guy thinks he's making deep high art and he's making some grand statement about aging or whatever. While I won't spoil it, the ending proves otherwise when he tries to wrap it up. This movie is just bad. It is laughably bad but not in the good way. I KNEW I shouldn't waste my time with this nonsense but old M. Night got me again. The real shocking twist is why do I keep watching this guys self indulgent CRAP.
