I'm glad I waited to read the reviews for Great White until after I watched it because despite the horrendous ratings people gave I throughly enjoyed it. My one complaint is how horrible the CGI shark was in its introduction scene. I don't know exactly what the budget was but from what I read it was minuscule. Once I found out that the budget was tiny I was no longer bothered by that one clip of the poorly done CGI shark. I imagine majority of the budget went into the cast and cinematography. The film is visually stunning; the scenery is vivid and the characters are attractive. One of the actresses was actually voted Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire in 2011.
I wasn't expecting much from The Reef: Stalked based on its ratings, but to my pleasant surprise it was excellent. Not only do the emotions actually feel real, but the shark looks real. I thoroughly enjoyed the backstory because it was more realistic and had more substance than the typical shark movie. It's difficult to find even daytime tv that isn't raunchy, so the lack of sex and nudity was refreshing. I hope the rest of the films directed by Andrew Traucki are nearly this good. I'd be interested to see what other movies the main characters are in; their acting was (thankfully) surprisingly believable.
I didn't realize this was a science fiction action film when I first pressed play; I thought I was selecting a shark documentary, so imagine my surprise when Jason Statham appeared on the screen. You would think that with actors like Jason Statham, Rainn Wilson, and Cliff Curtis the movie would be halfway decent. Well I'm here to tell you that you would be wrong. This movie was so terrible that I cannot begin to fathom how or why there is a part 2 or how in the world it made over $530 million at the box office. If I could go back in time I would have read the book and skipped the movie altogether.
