The 10 best films new to me that I saw in 2015

Most bad movies are hardly worth a look. However here are five that in my opinion contain qualities what make them eminently watchable.

Any list of 100 greatest needs qualifying. What of all the masterpieces that have yet to come my way? Then there are those that I would have included a few years back that a recent reshowing has resulted in disappointment. Inevitably the list is ephemeral but here goes.

These are by no means the ten greatest films ever made, indeed at least three would not even appear in my top hundred. They are however ones that give me enormous pleasure whenever I return to them. If I am ever stuck as to what to watch I often put on one of these. Included are several that I have seen more than any others to the extent that I can often quote the line that is coming next.

As I prefer watching films at home rather than going to the cinema these are new discoveries rather than films that made their first appearance last year. One actually dates from 1936!

Perhaps it's because I am a man that I find female screen monsters infinitely more terrifying and fascinating than male ones. Here are five great examples. They fall into two groups, those such as Nathalie Baye and Jessica Walter that are just plain sick and the others that are downright evil
