A romcom about a schizophrenic who inspires the love life of his aging psychiatrist? Yes. And brilliant. If you've ever read The Denial of Death, you'll find that Depps character is fully living out the theories as presented in that book as to why the schizophrenic should be admired.
Then you add in the natural chemistry of brando and depp. And then brando and Faye. Add in a terrific soundtrack and the great Adams song, and you got a recipe for mid 90s brilliance. Bonus points for that baseball Tshirt that depp is wearing when he finally gets back in his meds.
The pencil thin mustache is terrific.
I think this may have been brandos last real performance. I know he did some more work after, but this never seemed phoned in. Seemed like he genuinely cared about being there. Maybe it was his friendship with depp. These mid 90s new line films were an interesting time for the company.

I rewatched this classic from my childhood.
What is wrong with people? This movie is so fun. So funny. Amazing cast. Slapstick humor and smart humor and all the classic monsters with an original take.
People are really under appreciating this.
Also ... Carole Kane and Michael Richards are so great in supporting roles!
"He's remembered as the man who brought herpes to Sicily".
"What, is EVERYBODY your master ya cockroach"
"I don't work with lighting, I hate it! I work with all this other sh#t!"
"Im sorry. We were looking for an animal"
"I was accosted by lady Dracula"
"We went to a gypsy camp and it turned us into peeping Tom's"

You can't do movies anymore like this. (not that this movie is not good) but you can't expect people to fall into a trance and get lost in a film. This is a super moody movie that you really need to not have other distractions when watching. I had my daughter crying, had to turn it off -- turned it back on, couldn't remember what happened. My husband starts yapping about a sports game -- had to turn it off. Turn it back on and can't remember what I was watching. It's not that people don't have patience anymore, but they are simply too distracted by other people to focus. I'm sure this movie is great in a nice air conditioned dark movie theater, but that's not how I saw the movie. And that's not how most people will see the movie.
