In a recent interview with Comic Natalie, voice actor Tomikazu Sugita opened up about his initial hesitation to take on the lead role of Sakamoto in Sakamoto Days anime.
His reason? A sense of déjà vu tied to his past work.
Sugita admitted that while he was aware of the manga’s buzz as a rising Weekly Shonen Jump hit, he was hesitant to take on the role due to similarities with a character he had played before.
“I had already played a protagonist in a similar position in a Jump anime before, so I had that in mind, and it felt a bit like déjà vu.“
When the audition opportunity arose, he initially focused on another character, Kashima. However, his agency strongly encouraged him to also consider Sakamoto.

Sakamoto Days isn’t a run-of-the-mill hitman series in any case. With peak action scenes and character development, it outclasses most shonen anime in more ways than one.
It stands as one of the most awaited anime adaptations of 2025. And while the trailer garnered a mixed bag of reviews, fans may have been wrong to throw brickbats for this very reason.

While the first trailer seemed underwhelming to most readers, the final teaser had fans eating their words. It is the constant seesaw of expectations that leaves readers on the fence regarding the animated adaption.
But most of all, Tms may have exposed itself to a risk regarding its recent move. This may prove detrimental to the series in the long run, especially with its viewership and reception.

The holiday season is here which means there’s a pretty good chance that you’re either going to give someone a gift or receive one yourself — or both! Regardless, you might need some inspiration for what to give, and what better influence in the world is there than anime? This isn’t the only time of year for presents, and a few of these entries are centered around things that don’t have wrapping paper on them (but are just as important). Shōnen Jump has long since made a name for itself as the biggest manga magazine in the world. Not only has it consistently had the highest circulation of any manga magazine in Japan, but it’s birthed some of the most iconic manga of all time like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, so there’s no denying how big it is to the world of anime and manga.
Some of history’s most iconic manga came out of Shōnen Jump, but that can’t be said for every one of their works. In addition to Shōnen Jump manga that were canceled too soon, some manga, even when they do get a chance to tell their stories properly, never leave much of an impact on people, so whatever the case, plenty of great Shōnen Jump manga were unceremoniously forgotten due to how little impact they left during or after their runs.

Sakamoto Days is one of the biggest manga running in Shnen Jump right now, and thats created a lot of hype for its upcoming anime. The manga boasts some of the most creative and all-around gorgeous action of any shnen manga, so if a competent anime studio found a way to bring that to life, it would solidify Sakamoto Days reputation as one of the best manga someone could read.
Theres been incredible hype for the Sakamoto Days anime, but thats started dying down for the worst reasons. The first full trailer for Sakamoto Days was recently released, which gave people their first extended look at what the anime would be like, and unfortunately, everything presented in the Sakamoto Days trailer has people feeling skeptical about the animes quality. Some of the concerns are more exaggerated than others, but unfortunately, its far too easy to see why people are feeling nervous about its quality.

While some isekai protagonists get transported to new, fun worlds, the grass isn't always greener. Some isekai worlds are dark, brutal, and unforgiving, making the main character wish they could go back home. Dark isekai is a newer addition to the wider genre of isekai, and it doesn't have too many entrants. Most isekai series focus on the brighter side of life and give their characters fun powers in their vibrant new worlds. Dark isekai do the opposite, usually leaving the main character in a harder environment than they can initially handle.
Some characters, like Ainz from Overlord, are perfectly capable of handling the environment they're in and instead choose to be the world's villain. It's not entirely a dark world for Ainz, but it sure is for everyone who isn't his friend. Shonen manga, especially battle Shonen, usually involve characters who want to get stronger in what they do compared to others. Whether it is martial arts, sports, or even in the field of acting (like the case of Oshi No Ko), the main characters strive to get better at something while aiming to beat their competition. And that’s usually the approach Shonen mangaka have adopted since “working hard to achieve one’s goals and become the best” seems like a good message to their readers.

However, the problem with modern material is that the main characters are already equipped with plot armor and they are written in such a way that they will achieve their goals, no matter what. This is the case, especially for those in the Isekai genre. The MCs are already overpowered and fans merely read about their escapades, basically just annihilating their competition.
