Boogiepop Phantom is an unusual show. On one hand it’s a sequel to Kouhei Kadono’s classic light novel Boogiepop and Others . It dives into its predecessor’s conspiracy plot without explanation or apology. Fans of Boogiepop Phantom insisted for years that the anime demanded rapt attention to understand its complexities. In reality ( per Kim Morrissy ) the series was originally meant to air alongside Boogiepop and Others ’ film adaptation. Unfortunately it aired before the film’s release, likely confusing its audience. That would make Boogiepop Phantom a fans-only proposition.
