Older Jessica Alba action movies outshine Trigger Warning on Netflix, as critics find it lacking in acting, action, story, and visual style. Machete, a fun and wild action movie, is a better choice over the serious and predictable Trigger Warning for Jessica Alba fans. Trigger Warning fails to impress with its familiar plot, lack of surprises, and clichs, leading to a low Rotten Tomatoes rating for Jessica Alba.

Although Trigger Warning was recently released on Netflix, its Rotten Tomatoes rating indicates that viewers might be better off seeking out an older Jessica Alba action movie. Jessica Alba has enjoyed her fair share of box office success, but the star has a mixed history when it comes to the critical reception of her movies. For every successful hit like Sin City or The Killer Inside Me, Alba has a handful of critical disappointments, like Into the Blue and The Love Guru.

After five long years, Jessica Alba makes her triumphant feature film return with Netflix’s Trigger Warning. This is her first role since the ill-advised Killers Anonymous and her first onscreen role since the Bad Boys television spin-off, L.A.’s Finest (which was under the Spectrum Original banner, believe it or not). Yes, a lot has happened during the time Alba entertained the masses.

Yet, why does her triumphant return have to be Trigger Warning instead of Honey 2? Besides being in development hell for four years, this film is straight ripped from the genre that gives stars comebacks nowadays. It used to be horror, and now, the revenge thriller has been all the rage as of late.

The question is, will Alba’s film be the good (Reacher), the bad (think any Liam Neeson film from the past decade or two), or the ugly (Peppermint)?

Mouly Surya directed the film that launches June 21 on the streaming service and includes co-stars Mark Webber, Jake Weary, Anthony Michael Hall, Kaiwi Lyman and Hari Dhillon. Trigger Warning centers on Special Forces commando Parker (Alba) becoming the new owner of her dad’s bar in their hometown after his sudden passing. UK financier Goldfinch has shuttered three of its subsidiary companies.

According to documents on Companies House, Bird Box Distribution Ltd entered a creditors liquidation and Seis vehicle Bird Box Film Development is being dissolved this week. Streaming platform Birdbox.film, a short-lived VOD service, has also gone out of business.

Phil McKenzie, COO Goldfinch, told us: “Goldfinch continues to actively invest in the future of the UK and global independent film industry and operates across a number of lines of business. However, as with most businesses, some ventures are simply more successful than others. Birdbox Distribution Ltd and birdbox.film were only start-up ventures within the Goldfinch group and as with many such enterprises they unfortunately, and after a tough couple of years, became no longer viable and ceased to trade.”

Saban Films has picked up North American rights from Arclight Films to Martin Owen’s Charles Dickens adaptation Twist starring Michael Caine and Lena Headey in a deal that comes out of the recent Afm.

John Wrathall wrote the modern take on Dickens’ Oliver Twist and the film also stars Rita Ora, Raff Law (Repo Men), and Sophie Simnett.

Noel Clarke and Jason Maza produced Twist for Unstoppable alongside Ben Grass of Pure Grass Films, and Knuckle Sandwich’s Matt Williams. Sky served as co-producer, and financiers include Mep Capital, Blue Rider, Arclight, and Lipsync Productions.

Hulu is out with its monthly list of everything coming and going. This December, new additions include Season 6 of “Younger,” two new episodes of “Into the Dark,” and Season 3 of “Marvel’s Runaways.”

Michael Caine, Lena Headey and pop star Rita Ora are to star in “Twist,” a modern-day, gender-bending film interpretation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel “Oliver Twist” for Sky, which will release the film day and date in theaters and on its pay-tv platform.

The title role of Oliver is played by Jude Law’s son Raff Law. In this version, Oliver is reinvented as a streetwise artist living on the streets of modern-day London.

A chance encounter with a gang of grifters led by the charismatic Dodge, played by Ora, propels Twist into a high-stakes heist to steal a priceless painting for master thief Fagin, portrayed by Caine, and his psychopathic business partner, Sikes, played by Headey. That’s about all it has to bring to this flagging party, other than underlining how utterly divorced the movies’ concept of the “hitman” has become from reality. The world is tragically full of gun violence and targeted assassinations, but the perpetrators are rarely cool international assassins who make a clean shot from a rooftop far away, or walk away from explosions without turning round (thus making it painfully obvious that they’re the culprit!). And yet these characters have become a tiresome fixture of modern moviegoing. Someone needs to take them out.

“Hitman” is probably the most disproportionately over-represented profession in movies, at least over the medium’s last half-century. “Killers Anonymous” is one of those occasional films that attempt novelty by having a character cast of nothing but hitmen — which isn’t really all that much of a novelty, for the above-noted reason.

This latest entry in the cluttered annals of vaguely Tarantino-esque neo-noir criminal capers doesn’t take itself particularly seriously. But it doesn’t strike an assertively comic tone either, resulting in a superficially colorful but hollow pile of contrivances that are neither clever nor convincing enough to achieve more than time-passing diversion. Lionsgate is opening Martin Owen’s third feature, a U.S.-U.K. co-production, on 13 U.S. screens simultaneous with on-demand launch.

"We're all here because we're not all there." Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for a VOD film titled Killers Anonymous, an action thriller about a support group for killers. Yep, this is a play on "Alcoholics Anonymous" but for killers, and it's as dumb of a concept as it sounds written out here. Remarkably, the cast for this film is lead by some major names: Oscar winner Gary Oldman, along with Jessica Alba, Suki Waterhouse, Tommy Flanagan, MyAnna Buring, Michael Socha, Tim McInnerny, Sadie Frost, Rhyon Nicole Brown, and Sam Hazeldine. As expected, this group gets into trouble. "When new truths are discovered, secret alliances and betrayals emerge as the session explodes into violence and chaos." As principal photography has commenced, Armie Hammer and Gary Oldman have joined Evangeline Lilly on the cast of Nicholas Jarecki‘s ‘Dreamland’.

The film follows three stories about the world of opioids: a drug trafficker arranges a multi-cartel Fentanyl smuggling operation between Canada and the U.S., an architect recovering from an OxyContin addiction tracks down the truth behind her son’s involvement with narcotics, and a university professor battles unexpected revelations about his research employer, a drug company with deep government influence bringing a new “non-addictive” painkiller to market.

Arbitrage filmmaker, Jarecki has written and directed the project, on the casting announcement Jarecki stated:

“The devastating impact of the opioid crisis reaches all corners of society, Gary, Armie, and Evangeline are the perfect performers to bring the human face of this epidemic to audiences everywhere.”

The Crown outfit Left Bank Pictures is producing the dramedy, currently in production, which is set against the backdrop of the 1970 Miss World competition in London, hosted by Bob Hope. The newly formed Women’s Liberation Movement achieved overnight fame by invading the stage and disrupting the live broadcast of the beauty contest. When the show resumed, the result caused uproar: the winner was not the Swedish favorite but Miss Grenada — the first black woman to be crowned Miss World.

Knightley stars with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jessie Buckley, Keeley Hawes, Rhys Ifans, Greg Kinnear, Lesley Manville and Phyllis Logan. Philippa Lowthorpe (Three Girls) will direct. Screenplay comes from Rebecca Frayn with revisions by Gaby Chiappe. Pathé handles sales.

Organizers of the American Film Market are limiting access at the headquarters Loews Hotel to the official Afm participants, Variety has leaned.

When the 39th Afm starts on Oct. 31, admittance to the Loews will be strictly limited to those with credentials. In the past, attendees coming into the hotel lobby in Santa Monica, Calif., have been forced to deal with a wide variety of unsolicited pitches from unofficial sources.

In earlier years of the film market, sales agents and producers having business meetings in the lobby bar were infamously beseiged by uncredentialed wannabes flogging scripts or seeking acting roles.

Jonathan Wolf, who is starting his third decade as Afm managing director, told Variety that the move is in response to attendees’ concerns. “The lobby of the Loews should be the epicenter of the Afm but nobody wanted to be in the lobby,” he added.

Gary Oldman is joining Amy Adams in Fox 2000’s “The Woman in the Window,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The casting also means the actor will be reteaming with his “Darkest Hour” director Joe Wright. The film will be an adaption of the A.J. Finn novel of the same name, which follows a child psychologist who suffers from extreme agoraphobia and hasn’t left the house in months. Spying on her neighbors, she witnesses a murder when a new family moves in across the park — but no one will believe her.

Oldman is set to play the father of the family.
