The lead singing fisherman is played by David Coffin. This is his first (and only as of Feb 2022) TV or movie appearance. He was cast in this movie because of a viral video of him singing the sea chantey "Roll the Old Chariot" at the 2010 Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival in Portsmouth, NH.
Declan's line "He went and vanished like a fart in the wind" is the exact same line Warden Norton used to describe Andy Dufresne's escape in Um Sonho de Liberdade (1994).
The credits include Mike Zoss in the "Thank You" section. Mike Zoss is the name of the Coen Brothers' production company.
The major portion of the movie was filmed in the town of Harpswell situated in the Gulf of Maine, Cumberland Country. The funeral scene was shot at the Islands Community Church on 2141 Harpswell. The bridge shown when character Mary goes to the pub after her mother's funeral was filmed at the Bailey Island Cribstone Bridge.
