Good news! Netflix wants more money for its films and TV shows, as subscription prices take a notable hike in the US.

You don’t have to think back very far to remember when the monthly subscription cost for a streaming service appeared to be on the economic side. Over the course of the last few years, as streamers have been spending on bigger and bigger productions, inevitably it’s the end customer that has to foot the bill. Sooner or later, it was always going to be so.

Over in the US then, Netflix revealed last week that it will “occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix”. The last time it did this was October 2023, and new pricing will take effect in the US over the coming weeks.

The cost of the ad-supported tier in America is going from $6.99 to $7.99 a month.

Netflix said it added a record 18.91m paid global subscribers in the fourth quarter as its recent foray into live sports and the debut of Squid Games 2 helped raise the total to 301.6m.

As previously announced, staring in April’s earnings call the platform will no longer provide quarterly subscriber updates as it focuses on financials, although it will offer milestone updates. That said, co-ceo Ted Sarandos said they will release a biannual engagement report with Q2 and Q4 earnings. Shares climbed by more than 14% in after hours trading

Ke Huy Quan, who won an Academy Award for his work in A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, has signed with WME for representation in all areas.

The actor was previously with UTA, signing with the agency in mid-2023 after his Oscar win.

Quan was famously a child actor in the 1980s, making his debut opposite Harrison Ford in Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and appearing in seminal ’80s movie The Goonies. But acting work dried up for him as he got older, and for years he instead worked developing action choreography.

He made a triumphant return in front of the camera with 2022’s Everything Everywhere, which became a surprise and unlikely hit and an even unlikelier Oscars darling. The Russo Brothers have shared a bit of the behind-the-scenes story behind their return to the MCU with a pair of forthcoming Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars.

In an interview with Empire Magazine published on Monday, filmmaker Anthony Russo, who’s directing the forthcoming films alongside brother Joe, shared that it “took a little time” to begin to think about Avengers: Endgame as anything but the end of their journey with the MCU, after successfully mounting that 2019 title as one of the highest grossing films of all time.

The Multiverse Saga hasn't been the unmitigated disaster some would have you believe, but it does feel like enlisting the Russo Brothers for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars was part of Marvel Studios' attempt to course correct.

Joe and Anthony were seemingly done with the MCU after Avengers: Endgame. While the duo was set to focus on their Agbo production label, Cherry and The Gray Man struggled to strike a chord with movie fans - The Electric State doesn't look...great - so a Marvel Studios return might be what's best for them as well.

Talking to Empire Online, Anthony said, "Endgame was the end, and it took a little time for us to begin to think about it as something other than an end. Hello hello, and welcome to 2025, which my five-year-old son has boldly proclaimed “the year we’ve been waiting for.” Full disclosure: He also insists that “Elf” is a documentary and that he can see his grandparents’ house from our living room window (they live on the other side of the country), so I would advise against accepting any of his other declarations as the stuff of fact, but — when it comes to the movies of 2025, at least — the little guy might have a good point.

For one thing, this will be the first...

While the strike-impacted 2024 release slate resulted in fewer movies overall, 2025 promises to be something of a return to normal with a bevy of highly anticipated films coming to both theaters and streaming. From two new Marvel movies to James Gunn’s DC reboot of “Superman” to a “Jurassic” reboot to live-action remakes of animated classics galore, there’s plenty of familiar territory, but also noteworthy original films as well – Ryan Coogler’s vampire film “Sinners,” Steven Soderbergh’s ghost story “Presence” and a new Paul Thomas Anderson movie are all on tap, to name a few.

And that’s not to mention the films that don’t have release dates yet but are promised for 2025 – Netflix alone has the third “Knives Out” movie “Wake Up, Dead Man,” Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” and a new Noah Baumbach film.

Oh yeah, and there’s a new “Avatar” sequel coming in December.

Lionsgate has released the second trailer for the Mark Wahlberg-led suspense thriller ‘Flight Risk.’

Wahlberg plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.

A new trailer for The Electric State has debuted. The upcoming Netflix movie is set in an alternate version of the 1990s after a failed robot revolution. When one of these robots makes Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) believe that her missing brother is alive, she sets out on a quest to find him. She is joined in her quest by a man named Keats (Chris Pratt), along with several of the robots. The Electric State's cast also includes Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Colman Domingo, and Alan Tudyk.

Before Joe and Anthony Russo return to the Marvel family for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, they will unleash The Electric State. Based on the illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, the film takes place in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s where sentient robots, who once peacefully served among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising.

“The robots in this alternate universe came from Walt Disney and Disneyland — the animatronics that he created gained a sentience, were put into the workforce, and became worker bots, service bots, and marketing bots,” Joe revealed while speaking with Entertainment Weekly. “But they retained that Disney-esque quality to keep them appealing and non-threatening to humans. So you have this tapestry of really interesting, cartoonish-looking robots who are very complex characters in their own right, who are on their own journey of discovery.“

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has landed the pitch Stand-In, with Rudy Mancuso attached to direct and compose the film’s original soundtrack.

Mancuso will also write the script alongside Dan Lagana, from a story by Andy Muschietti. Andy and Barbara Muschietti will produce the film, which follows a Hollywood-obsessed stand-in who seizes his chance to shine after a series of events leads to the disappearance of the actor he’s standing in for. Exec producers include Rudy Mancuso, Marianna Mancuso, and Lagana.

There hasn’t been much to report about Enola Holmes 3 since the sequel was officially greenlit over a year ago. Its star, Millie Bobby Brown, has admittedly been very busy filming the final season of Stranger Things as well as two other Netflix projects, Damsel and next year’s The Electric State.

Deadline’s sources are now saying that Boiling Point director Philip Barantini will direct Enola Holmes 3. Millie Bobby Brown is expected to return as well, but no contracts have been signed as of yet.

While Enola Holmes has always appealed to a younger audience, Deadline reports that Barantini’s darker approach proved popular with Netflix executives. Barantini already has an existing relationship with the streamer and filmed a new TV show Adolescence over the summer. The four-part series,...

The game is afoot again as Boiling Point director Philip Barantini boards the next installment of Netflix and Legendary’s Enola Holmes franchise. The studios expect Millie Bobby Brown to return for the sleuth-inspired sequel, Enola Holmes 3, but deals have yet to close. If Brown signs on the dotted line, Enola Holmes 3 would become her next feature project after concluding her long-standing role as Eleven on the final season of Stranger Things. In addition to her starring role, Millie Bobby Brown will produce Enola Holmes 3 alongside Bobby Brown through their Pcma Productions.

Based on the YA novel series by Nancy Springer, the first two Enola Holmes movies find a young Enola Holmes following in the footsteps of her older brother, Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill). The first film finds Enola unraveling a dangerous conspiracy while searching for her missing mother, while the sequel has Enola looking for a missing girl.

Exclusive: The next installment in one of Netflix’s most successful film franchises is gaining some serious momentum, as sources tell Deadline that Philip Barantini is attached to direct Enola Holmes 3. Deals are not closed yet, but franchise star Millie Bobby Brown is expected to return as sources say this would likely be her next project once she completes production on the final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things.
