It’s got a smaller fanbase these days, sure. Every season of American Horror Story takes inspiration from real characters and events, though making significant changes to them to fit the show’s style and tone, and American Horror Story: Asylum has many characters based on real-life people. After exploring the stories of the ghosts living in a haunted house in American Horror Story: Murder House, the series took the audience back to the 1960s in AHS: Asylum to see the horrific events that took place at the fictional mental institution Briarcliff Manor. Asylum mixed the horrors of social experiments, racism, and a serial killer with a supernatural element that might seem out of place: aliens.

While the immortal spell was fictional, American Horror Story: Coven’s character Delphine Lalaurie was actually based on a real-life New Orleans woman of the same name. AHS: Coven was the Ryan Murphy TV Show’s third installation, focusing on a small coven of young female witches in modern-day New Orleans, led by The Supreme Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) and her daughter Cordelia (Sarah Paulson). The coven had to channel their powers and hide their magic from society, all the while engaging in a centuries-long feud with the local Voodoo witches led by Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett).

While American Horror Story is a work of fiction, the series does draw from real-life historical events and includes more sinister characters based on real people like that of Delphine Lalaurie. For example, AHS: Asylum's main antagonist Bloodyface, the first iteration, was Dr. Oliver Thredson, who is based on serial killer Ed Gein.

We finally have news about American Horror Story Season 11! The new season of Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology will premiere in the fall, FX chairman John Landgraf announced during his virtual executive session at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. That puts it on track to premiere about a year after Season 10 ended — and fittingly, just in time for Halloween. The first five seasons premiered in October, the next four in September, and the 10th in August. As a result, that last one was the only one not to air new episodes around Halloween (with the finale on October 20). We are still waiting for any details about what Season 11 will entail. So far, the first 10 seasons have been titled Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse, 1984, and Double Feature, with the occasional crossover. What we do know is that it won’t be the last.

American Horror Story fans finally have their first (admittedly small) piece of official intel about the FX anthology’s forthcoming Season 11.

It’s not much, but we now know that the next season is slated to premiere sometime this fall. The news was confirmed by FX chairman John Landgraf during his executive session at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Tuesday.

The 11th season of Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” will premiere this fall on FX.

FX chairman John Landgraf revealed the news during his executive Q&a session at the cable channel’s virtual presentation at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour Tuesday.

The debut date announcement marks the first news of “AHS” Season 11, an installment fans have been clamoring for info about since Season 10, “American Horror Story: Double Feature,” concluded in October 2021. That 10th season was split into two stories, “Red Tide” and “Death Valley.”

Landgraf gave no specific premiere date for “American Horror Story” Season 11 beyond “fall,” though the fact a time frame has been given at all means there’s a good chance Murphy will be sharing the title, theme and cast for the upcoming season in the coming months.
