Former co-star Joan Collins was terrified of Evan Peters' method acting in American Horror Story: Apocalypse, particularly during the scene where he killed her character. Peters' intense portrayal of Mr. Gallant in the show, with his hideously menacing expression, made Collins shudder with real terror as he swung a machete into a dummy placed over her body. Collins describes the experience as hot, heavy, and uncomfortable, with a huge mass of fake blood and offal shooting out like a volcanic eruption, leaving her unable to eat liver or sausages again.

Some TV shows start strong but dip in quality as the seasons progress, frustrating and disappointing audiences. Even highly acclaimed shows can struggle initially and require multiple attempts to find success. TV shows can be hit or miss, with some viewers sticking around in hopes of improvement while others give up after the first episode.
With highly acclaimed TV shows like The Sopranos and Breaking Bad consistently entertaining audiences from start to finish, some series had more unbalanced runs. In the world of television, the journey of a show's quality can be an unpredictable rollercoaster. Some series burst onto the scene with a compelling narrative, engrossing characters, and a level of intrigue that captivates audiences. Anna’s lot in life takes an optimistic turn when it comes to fame and family as a sinister force asserts control and ‘AHS: Delicate’ teases its grander plans.

“It is a monster.”
Pregnancy horror stories can go down many different directions, whether they’re tales where disturbed individuals attempt to steal a healthy infant, evil offspring scenarios, or any variety of films where a dark pact is made with the Devil or some kind of malevolent magic. American Horror Story: Delicate has kept its audience guessing when it comes to its newborn neuroses, but “Vanishing Twin” pulls back the veil a little when it comes to the dark fate that’s befallen Anna. Answers are appreciated when it comes to any of this seasons’ broader mysteries, but AHS: Delicate’s fable-like explanation feels strangely out of place. “American Horror Story: Delicate” is off to a brutally bland start. We’re already three weeks into the series’ first attempt at a book adaptation for the FX horror show — a mainstay in seasonal television disappointments, now in its twelfth installment — and next to nothing has happened.
Set against contemporary Hollywood via Manhattan (and later the Hamptons), author Danielle Valentine’s “Delicate Condition” could have provided the basis for a decent limited series or possibly a movie. But AHS needed something meatier than a middling “Rosemary’s Baby” redux to keep the anthology’s rapidly diminishing legacy from swirling down the drain like hormone-riddled pee. And yet somehow, Ryan Murphy and co-creator Brad Falchuk have let a series that once had Frances Conroy cannibalizing a still-alive Adina Porter become excruciatingly boring.

It’s been almost 12 years to the day since Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk unleashed “American Horror Story” on the genre-loving masses. Not many of us queerdo TV fans have stuck around long enough to enjoy the ongoing “American Horror Story: Delicate,” at least judging Season 12 by the series’ earlier viewership numbers.
But even with the show’s spectacularly uneven quality and Murphy’s unfailing ability to drop the ball mid-way through a decent story, the creepy-yet-campy anthology remains an undeniable staple of horror TV and FX offerings. It’s got a smaller fanbase these days, sure. But we’re still thriving — constantly theorizing about how the seasons are interconnected and assembling some of the funniest clip compilations on the internet.
On October 5, 2011, the co-creators and executive producers known for “Nip/Tuck,” “Glee,” and more wacky dramedy classics premiered the first episode of what was retroactively titled “American Horror Story: Murder House.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for American Horror Story: Delicate episode 1 and the book Delicate Condition.
American Horror Story: Delicate might feature a crossover with Coven, exploring the connection between witches and the new season's storyline. The book Delicate Condition, which the season is based on, hints at a coven of witches and a shocking twist ending that could be included in the show. While Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters won't be returning, there are ways for American Horror Story: Delicate to connect to the Coven season, such as referencing characters through conversation or flashbacks. The show has handled dual casting before, so Emma Roberts playing two characters could be plausible.

American Horror Story season 12, titled Delicate, revisits a pregnancy storyline already seen in previous seasons. The trailer reveals that Anna's husband, Dexter, will be a terrible partner, resembling a similar storyline to season 10. The show's use of pregnancy as a recurring theme is likely influenced by the horror genre's fascination with body horror and films like Rosemary's Baby.
Unfortunately, American Horror Story season 12 is revisiting a storyline from its Double Feature season. The 12th season, titled Delicate, is set to premiere on September 20th with the return of Emma Roberts and the controversial addition of Kim Kardashian. American Horror Story: Delicate is taking a big leap with its riskiest season yet, featuring an adaptation of a novel with risky subject matter. Kim Kardashian's casting in a major role poses a major gamble for American Horror Story: Delicate, considering her minimal dramatic acting experience. The declining critical reception of American Horror Story in recent seasons, coupled with the absence of key veterans, suggests that Delicate may struggle to capture the essence of a typical American Horror Story outing.
While American Horror Story season 12 might be hotly anticipated, there is a whole host of factors that make this upcoming outing the horror anthology show’s riskiest season ever. American Horror Story has never been a risk-averse series. In season 1, Murder House, the show turned a school shooter into a surprisingly sympathetic antihero. At this year’s Gamescom we tried to stack our schedule with as many horror (or horror-adjacent) titles as we possibly could.
Rushing around the expansive halls of the Koelnmesse venue — trying to make each of our back-to-back appointments — we barely had chance to catch our breath across the jam-packed three days we were there. Among other things, we previewed nearly an hour of Alan Wake 2, got the inside scoop on Still Wakes the Deep, had a lengthy hands-on session with Lords of the Fallen, and then went on a perilous expedition into the bowels of Moria.
But that only represents a small fraction of the exciting projects we saw here. In addition to those big tentpoles, we also took a look at the efforts of some plucky solo devs and indie studios who’ve been working away on interesting little titles that you might be sleeping on.

Margot Robbie was nearly cast in American Horror Story: Asylum, and based on where the actress was with her career at the time, there's a specific season 2 character she likely auditioned for. Asylum served as the follow-up installment to the horror anthology's well-received debut, Murder House. Rather than a present-day tale, Asylum was primarily set in the 1960s, following Briarcliff Manor and the various staff and patients within the mental institution. American Horror Story season 2's cast was comprised of several returning faces from Murder House, including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Dylan McDermott, Zachary Quinto, and Lily Rabe. American Horror Story season 12's focus on pregnancy is not necessarily a surprise, as the horror genre has explored this theme for decades, but the show has a tendency to mishandle sensitive topics. Previous seasons of American Horror Story have included subplots involving pregnancies and babies, but Delicate will be the first season where the sinister/supernatural pregnancy is the main focus. The decision to make pregnancy the primary focus of American Horror Story season 12 is a major risk, as the show has a history of approaching sensitive topics with a lack of subtlety, and previous pregnancy storylines have been highly controversial.
While American Horror Story season 12 will be revisiting one of the show’s most frequently seen themes, this is not necessarily a good thing. Pregnancy can be scary. While bringing life into the world is a beautiful thing, it is also an inherently messy, stressful, and occasionally terrifying...

American Horror Story: Murder House presented audiences with a haunted house, violent murders, and vengeful ghosts, and the AHS Murder House true story took its inspiration from sordid tales from across the United States. A horror anthology, each AHS season is an encapsulated story that focuses on a different style of horror, combining elements from urban legends, slasher movies, and real-life murder cases to create a piece of terrifying Americana. Now spanning multiple seasons, it is a versatile show that combines creative themes with a star-studded cast.

The news that American Horror Story season 12 will be subtitled “Delicate” gives viewers some clues about the story of the horror anthology’s next outing. The subtitle of each American Horror Story season subtly tells viewers something about its plot, although the extent to which these headings give the game away varies. The first season’s subtitle “Murder House” gave viewers a pretty clear idea of what American Horror Story season 1 was going to focus on, but season 8’s subtitle “1984” didn’t tell fans much about the upcoming season. Although each season of American Horror Story has covered a different horror theme, the series has badly overused a ghost trend, and it needs to stop doing so. Even though American Horror Story is an anthology series, the appearance and references of different characters and events in more than one season have made way for the creation of an American Horror Story universe, confirmed in season 8, Apocalypse, which brought together seasons Murder House, Coven, and Hotel. Since then, viewers have looked for more connections between all seasons of American Horror Story so far, and thus various similarities – both good and bad – have come to light.
Every season of American Horror Story has included at least one supernatural element, either through sci-fi elements like aliens, mythical creatures like vampires, or entities with a deeper meaning, as was the case of Big Daddy in American Horror Story: NYC. However, some of...

American Horror Story has been terrifying fans with elaborate seasons since 2011, but it doesn't always tie up all its loose ends. Starting with Murder House, the series has since covered topics like vampires, aliens, and summer camp massacres. One of the show's biggest criticisms is that the seasons start out strong but lose their plot along the way. This was less of an issue in early seasons like Murder House, Asylum, and Coven, but is nonetheless a consistent theme.
There are quite a lot of instances of plot holes and unanswered questions in American Horror Story. The first half of American Horror Story: Double Feature told a unique story about what people are willing to do to succeed, yet it seemed to rush through the ending, making the season feel incomplete with so much for fans to wonder about. While the series is still loved for its boldness and never...

American Horror Story has created its own connected universe, which has made way for various theories suggesting links between characters from different seasons, as happens with both Montgomery characters introduced so far. Although different characters and events appeared or were referenced throughout the first seasons of the series, it wasn’t until season 8, Apocalypse, that American Horror Story confirmed that all seasons live in the same universe, bringing together characters from Murder House, Coven, and Hotel.
Since then, every season of American Horror Story has been meticulously analyzed to see if there were connections, teases, and Easter eggs that further connect characters and events, and this has also made way for a variety of theories. Among them is one that suggests there’s a link between the two Montgomery characters introduced so far in different seasons: Murder House’s sinister doctor Charles Montgomery (Matt Ross) and Coven’s powerful but...

It’s no secret that American Horror Story takes inspiration from many classic horror movies, and American Horror Story: Murder House has strong similarities to Rosemary’s Baby. Although each season of American Horror Story has told original stories, they are heavily influenced by real-life crimes, events, and people, as well as legends, supernatural creatures, and horror movies. The influences of the latter are quite evident, as some seasons have even paid homage to some classic horror scenes, and one movie that has inspired American Horror Story is Rosemary’s Baby.
Based on the 1967 novel by Ira Levin and directed by Roman Polanski, Rosemary’s Baby is the story of a young woman named Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow), who’s married to a stage actor named Guy Woodhouse (John Cassavetes). The Woodhouses move into the Barmford apartment building in New York City, where Rosemary becomes pregnant, but she also suspects that her strange...

In 2017, following eight losses throughout the preceding decade, Ryan Murphy finally achieved his first competitive PGA Award win for producing the first iteration of “American Crime Story,” aka “The People v. O.J. Now, according to Gold Derby’s odds, he is heavily favored to triumph there again as the producer of Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”

Ryan Murphy brought back a few familiar faces to a new location for the American Horror Story season 11 cast and characters. American Horror Story Season 11: NYC, is set in New York City, apparently in the 1970s and '80s, focusing on the LGBTQ+ community as a threatening serial killer looms. It’s unclear whether American Horror Story season 11 will connect to previous installments of the franchise, but the New York City setting and time jumps suggest there will be room for overlap if the franchise chooses that route.
There are some notable names missing from the impressive cast of American Horror Story season 11, subtitled New York City, including franchise staples Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, and Frances Conroy. However, in addition to some new AHS actors and frequent Ryan Murphy collaborators, American Horror Story: NYC’s cast boasts returning actors like Billie Lourd, Denis O’Hare, Leslie Grossman,...

American Horror Story: Hotel introduced this universe’s first version of vampires, who kept some strange cages with neon lights – and a theory cleverly explains what these cages are for. American Horror Story has explored a variety of horror themes, legends, and creatures, often mixing two or more, and for its fifth season, it took the audience to Hotel Cortez. Appropriately titled American Horror Story: Hotel, this season started the AHS connected universe with links to Murder House and Coven, and it introduced the audience to vampires and ghosts living at a hotel that has witnessed a variety of horrors.
Similarly to Murder House, Hotel’s main setting was the home to a variety of ghosts, as those who died inside the hotel are doomed to spend eternity in it, thus haunting and terrorizing various guests and residents. In addition to that, Hotel Cortez is the home of Elizabeth (Lady Gaga...

Despite being set in the 1950s, American Horror Story: Freak Show featured modern music in its various musical numbers—but there was a particular reason. The fourth season of the horror series followed a troupe of outcasts as they worked to dazzle the world with their various talents and differences, which included more involved musical performances that before. This established a significantly different tone than previous American Horror Story seasons.
Every season of American Horror Story brings a new theme to audiences, and in the case of season 4, it brought the concepts of theater. The season doubled as a social commentary on the perspective that used to be placed—and sometimes still is—on people with body or limb differences and how the actual monsters of society were far more likely to be those who blend in, such as the despicable Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock). To show the world that they weren't what they seemed,...

All seasons of American Horror Story are part of the same universe, and some of them have a couple of connections between them, and a theory explains there’s a dark one between Murder House and Hotel thanks to James March (Evan Peters). Each season of American Horror Story covers a different horror theme with either supernatural or human villains (and sometimes a combination of both), and with time, it has formed a connected universe that peaked with the crossover season Apocalypse. AHS kicked off with Murder House, which told the stories of the ghosts that inhabited the title haunted house.
After exploring the horrors inside an asylum, among a coven of witches, and in a freak show, American Horror Story took the audience to Hotel Cortez to meet the vampires and ghosts that live in it. Among them was James March, the designer of the Hotel Cortez and a serial killer,...

Every season of American Horror Story takes inspiration from real characters and events, though making significant changes to them to fit the show’s style and tone, and American Horror Story: Asylum has many characters based on real-life people. After exploring the stories of the ghosts living in a haunted house in American Horror Story: Murder House, the series took the audience back to the 1960s in AHS: Asylum to see the horrific events that took place at the fictional mental institution Briarcliff Manor. Asylum mixed the horrors of social experiments, racism, and a serial killer with a supernatural element that might seem out of place: aliens.
American Horror Story: Asylum followed the stories of Kit Walker (Evan Peters), an innocent man arrested under suspicion of being the Bloody Face killer; Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson), a journalist whose investigation of Briarcliff led her to be committed to it; and Sister...

While the immortal spell was fictional, American Horror Story: Coven’s character Delphine Lalaurie was actually based on a real-life New Orleans woman of the same name. AHS: Coven was the Ryan Murphy TV Show’s third installation, focusing on a small coven of young female witches in modern-day New Orleans, led by The Supreme Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) and her daughter Cordelia (Sarah Paulson). The coven had to channel their powers and hide their magic from society, all the while engaging in a centuries-long feud with the local Voodoo witches led by Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett).
While American Horror Story is a work of fiction, the series does draw from real-life historical events and includes more sinister characters based on real people like that of Delphine Lalaurie. For example, AHS: Asylum's main antagonist Bloodyface, the first iteration, was Dr. Oliver Thredson, who is based on serial killer Ed Gein.

Ryan Murphy's long-running horror anthology series American Horror Story is well-known for its campy and excessive approach to its genre, but what is somewhat less known is the extent to which it draws on real-life inspirations to ground its fantastical narratives. Both those seasons set in the past and the present often have one foot in the world of reality and one in the sideways world so commonly found in horror. Thus, the series has always excelled at tapping into the most frightening and disturbing aspects of American history to anchor its often bizarre plots.
These real-life inspirations help to ground American Horror Story throughout its various seasons. When viewers find themselves confronted with elements of the real world that they know, this gives the horror a bite, sometimes lacking in other similar series. Summer this year has been killer. Between record breaking heat waves, humidity that matches running a hot shower with the door shut, and just overall unpleasantness, it would come as no surprise that some people are looking to get away. We finally have news about American Horror Story Season 11! The new season of Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology will premiere in the fall, FX chairman John Landgraf announced during his virtual executive session at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour. That puts it on track to premiere about a year after Season 10 ended — and fittingly, just in time for Halloween. The first five seasons premiered in October, the next four in September, and the 10th in August. As a result, that last one was the only one not to air new episodes around Halloween (with the finale on October 20). We are still waiting for any details about what Season 11 will entail. So far, the first 10 seasons have been titled Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse, 1984, and Double Feature, with the occasional crossover. What we do know is that it won’t be the last.

FX chairman John Landgraf revealed the news during his executive Q&a session at the cable channel’s virtual presentation at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour Tuesday.
