Gizmo is back in Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, the new Max series that serves as a prequel to the hit 1984 film Gremlins. Although only a few episodes have been released thus far, reviews have praised the way in which Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai successfully captures the unique tone that made the original film a hit. In addition, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai offers a close look into the mythology of its unique world, greatly expanding what audiences know about the Mogwai and even introducing new mystical and rare creatures.
Music for the original Gremlins film was written by legendary composer Jerry Goldsmith, whose work lives on in the work Sherri Chung has done on the animated series. Quite a bit remains up in the air about The CW’s lineup for the 2023-2024 season, and not just because of the writers’ strike. As of May 3, we still hadn’t known the fates of seven of its shows, and so for two weeks, we asked you to vote for which one you wanted to be renewed the most. Now, on May 26, three of its shows still have yet to be renewed or canceled. The CW has renewed All American and Walker, for Seasons 6 and 4, respectively. We knew that The Flash, Nancy Drew, and Riverdale would be airing their final seasons ahead of their premieres. Kung Fu, Walker Independence, and The Winchesters have been canceled. The futures of All American: Homecoming, Gotham Knights, and Superman & Lois remain up in the air. After thousands of votes were cast, two of those three shows — All American: Homecoming and Gotham Knights...

Armando, born in 1975, served as a member of the Cuban national boxing team. His boxing career in Cuba spans several decades, transitioning from boxer to coach. His trainees have achieved gold medals in world championships, reports Xinhua.
Fascinated by movie star Bruce Lee and elements of Chinese culture, Armando developed a fondness for Chinese Kung Fu films from a young age.
A chance encounter with a Chinese boxing coach at a competition in Cuba led Armando to China. He embarked on his coaching career in 2016, leaving a mark across Shandong, Chongqing, and Heilongjiang.

In the sixteen years since The CW launched as a broadcast channel, it has become known for its teen dramas like Riverdale, The Vampire Diaries, and One Tree Hill as well as being the home of the DC Comics Arrow-verse. For years, this channel has created dozens of original shows that not only paved the way for small screen superhero entertainment, but also cultivated diverse talent and voices. However, thanks to the network’s new owners Nexstar Media Group, this is all about to change.
Many of The CW’s original series like The Flash, Riverdale, and Nancy Drew are airing their final seasons this year while others like The Winchesters, Walker: Independence, and Kung Fu have already been canceled as the channel tries to shift its audience age demographic from 18-34 to the more traditional 18-49. The best Jet Li movies are comprised of some of the greatest martial arts-driven action films released at the turn of the century. Moreover, though it's uncommon, Li also has several dramatic roles under his belt. Alongside his fellow movie stars Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh, Jet Li is widely considered to be one of the greatest martial artists and actors of all time. His English-language filmography alone is certainly impressive, but this doesn't represent his full body of work. When looked at in full it's clear that Jet Li's movies have earned him a place in cinema history, and few save for maybe the aforementioned or legends like Bruce Lee can match his presence in the Kung Fu genre.
As amazing as it may seem today, Jet Li didn't enter the world of martial arts until age 8 which, as many practitioners will tell you, is relatively old compared to...

Supernatural star Jeffrey Dean Morgan has officially offered his support to The Winchesters, urging the show to be saved after its cancellation. A Supernatural prequel spinoff, The Winchesters follows a young John and Mary Winchester in the 1970s, as the two explore their budding romance while saving the world from supernatural monsters. The series premiered in October 2022, with the final episode aired in March 2023. Recently, the CW announced that it had cancelled The Winchesters after only one season.

The CW has saved a show that another network has cancelled, even though it is cancelling most of its own original programming. Under Nexstar's new leadership (the largest local broadcast television group in the U.S.), the channel has moved away from its reputation as a teen drama haven. Instead, The CW has favored acquiring low-cost series outside the U.S. and sports content like golf. As a direct consequence of these changes, shows like The Winchesters and Legacies have been axed.
According to Deadline, The CW has opted to save 61st Street season 2. The legal drama, which stars Courtney B. Vance and Aunjanue Ellis, was cancelled by AMC in January 2023 as part of a cost-saving move. Both seasons will now air on The CW in partnership with AMC. The first installment will air in the fall, and season 2 is planned to debut in 2024. Although 61st Street season 2 has yet to premiere anywhere,...

"Kung Fu", the martial arts action-adventure TV series, 're-imagining' the 1972 Old West TV series into a Chinese-centric, modern-day woke retelling, has been canceled after Three Seasons on The CW:
"...the series follows a young Chinese American woman whose personal issues force her to leave college and make a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China.
"Returning to America three years later, she starts using her martial arts skills and 'Shaolin' values to protect her community when her hometown of San Francisco, becomes a filthy, homeless, drug-addled blight, plagued by ongoing crime and corruption by the 'Triad'.

The CW will not continue with Kung Fu, its reboot of the classic series, which has run for three seasons. It is the latest cancellation of an existing scripted series at the network, which is changing its business model under its new owners to focus on lower-cost scripted originals, primarily from Canada and the UK.
So far, only the CW’s strongest existing scripted series, All American and Walker, have been renewed for next season. The three least likely, The Winchesters, Kung Fu and Walker Independence, have been canceled. Remaining in limbo are Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming, which are believed to have the best chance (however small it may be), followed by Gotham Knights.

Tony Jaa uses a wide collection of martial arts in the Ong Bak trilogy. Tony Jaa began his career in action movies as a stuntman, before achieving his big break with 2003's Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior, which shot Jaa to international stardom. Ong Bak is widely beloved for Jaa's showcasing of Muay Thai in the movie's enthralling fight scenes, with Jaa and the cast also performing incredible stunt work throughout the film. Al Pacino could easily refuse the offer to play Han Solo in “Star Wars.”
The Oscar winner revealed that he turned down the 1977 film despite being offered “so much money” for the role. Pacino was coming off of hits like “The Godfather” (1972), “Serpico” (1973), “The Godfather Part II” (1974), and “Dog Day Afternoon” (1975).
“Well, I turned down ‘Star Wars.’ When I first came up, I was the new kid on the block,” Pacino said during an event at the 92nd Street Y in New York (via Variety). “You know what happens when you first become famous. It’s like, ‘Give it to Al.’ They’d give me Queen Elizabeth to play.”
Pacino, who is next starring in “King Lear,” added, “They gave me a script called ‘Star Wars.’ They offered me so much money. I don’t understand it. I read it. So I said I couldn’t do it.”

The cabaret-style stage show, a huge hit in Los Angeles where it’s still running after 13 years, heads to the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith from June 6 for a 10-week season through August 13.
Definitely fair to point out that there are as many Tarantino aficionados here in Blighty as there are in Tarantino’s manor in LA. Spend any time in the less trendy parts of Hackney in East London or across the river in Peckham and you’ll hear teens discuss their attire or their fast-food snacks while referencing a line from a Tarantino movie. Series star Drake Rodger explains why he's not worrying about whether The Winchesters season 2 will happen. Season 1 of the prequel to Supernatural, which follows younger versions of John Winchester (Rodger) and Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) in the 1970s, concludes in a big way. It ultimately ties back to the original series, bringing back Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) for a significant on-screen cameo that ties everything together but still leaves room for further exploration down the line.
In a recent interview with Nerds & Beyond, Rodger addresses the question of whether The Winchesters season 2 will happen. The actor explains that, for his part, he's taking the advice given to him by Ackles to "enjoy the ride." It's a sentiment he returns to more than once in the quote below, and Rodger also mentions feeling "very fortunate" for the run that the prequel has had so far:
Jensen has given some really, really good advice.

The Matrix has trouble securing interest from major studios, with a previous Keanu Reeves cyberpunk flop ironically used as evidence against it. On the big screen, cyberpunk has always struggled to appeal to mainstream audiences. Genre forbearer Blade Runner was a financial disappointment upon release, and even the successes consist of the critically derided likes of The Lawnmower Man. The Matrix was the rare cyberpunk blockbuster that broke through in a big way, with the film's visuals, themes, and action sequences making it an instant classic. It also managed to present some complicated concepts to viewers in a user-friendly way.
The same can't really be said of The Matrix sequels, which instead became boggled down in philosophical babble, such as Reloaded's infamous Architect speech. The divided response to the later movies doesn't change the fact The Matrix was a groundbreaking work back in 1999, and for better and for worst, would...

John Wick: Chapter 4 is marking yet another chance for the West to get to know Donnie Yen, one of Asia’s top leading men. He has already been in several other major Hollywood franchises. He played the scene-stealing Force-sensitive blind master Chirrut Îmwe in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the lure for the Asian market role in XXX: Return of Xander Cage, and Commander Tung in the Disney live-action flop, Mulan. However, in that same period when these Hollywood films came out, Yen made 10 of his own Asian-produced films where he was the leading man.
Action films are Yen’s specialty, so Yen’s inclusion in John Wick is a perfect fit. His mother is Grandmaster Bow Sim Mark, a pioneer in the global dissemination of Wushu. Wushu is a flamboyant acrobatic style of Kung Fu, designed for competition. It’s the same style that produced Jet Li along...

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.
First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.
Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

Chad Stahelski’s filmmaking career began 30 years ago when he performed some stunts for a direct-to-video ninja flick called Brain Smasher… A Love Story starring Andrew Dice Clay. Some 18 films later, and Stahelski had worked his way up the stunt-person ladder to serve as the stunt double for Neo, aka Mr. Keanu Reeves himself, in The Matrix. It was the beginning a beautiful friendship. He continued to work with Reeves for the second and third Matrix installments, rising to martial arts stunt choreographer’s chair, and then the two reunited for Constantine in 2005. It was a fruitful collaborative relationship, however it would become something else entirely when less than a decade later they partnered again, now as director and star, for Stahelski’s directorial debut, John Wick (2014).
According to Stahelski, neither he nor Reeves thought John Wick would become what it is today.

“You're a real scumbag, I like you” says Lead villain Sasaki to the nominal hero Mr. Taekwondo. Cinema has always been transnational by design, its visual language allowing features to be reworked and reimagined into different cultures. “Yojimbo” stemmed from Kurosawa's love of the American westerns of John Ford. Sergio Leone then reworked it into “A Fistful of Dollars” and here Lee Doo-yong was to rework the theme again in the quasi-western “Manchurian Tiger”. With the Kung Fu bloom in full flow, the blending together of genres would be ideal box office as the action movie began to take shape. Now, almost 40 years later, does it still hold up?

Bruce Lee could have been a TV star before The Green Hornet. The 1960s superhero series is remembered as a major stepping stone in the acting career of the martial arts legend. The actor’s role in The Green Hornet came at a time when he had yet to find a foothold in the entertainment industry.
Airing between 1966 and 1967, ABC’s Green Hornet show is Lee’s first TV credit. The show, which was spawned from the popularity of the network’s Batman series, starred Van Williams as the titular vigilante, Britt Reid. Lee’s character was Kato, the Green Hornet’s superhero sidekick and Reid’s chauffeur. The series ultimately didn’t turn Lee into a household name, but it did serve as American audiences’ introduction to the actor. In The Green Hornet, Lee regularly utilized his experience as a martial artist when performing his various fight scenes in the show.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of The Mandalorian.
The twentieth chapter of "The Mandalorian" is called "The Foundling" and is directed by Greef Karga himself, Carl Weathers. It was a surprise, then, to not see Greef Karga in this installment at all. Instead, the episode, co-written by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, focused on the Mandalorian covert. Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) have settled into the culture of the covert, even if it's a bit uneasily. Grogu is content to play with creatures on the shore while the other Mandalorians train, but Din insists that Grogu must train with the others. After besting Ragnar in a match with training darts, Grogu watches as a massive flying creature abducts Ragnar and takes it to its lair. Din and Paz Vizsla give chase with their jetpacks, but they quickly run out of fuel before finding the beast's lair.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Winchesters season 1, episode 13The Winchesters season 1 concluded with questions about its future. Nexstar bought the CW, and the new owner has said it will switch to mostly non-scripted shows, with up to five scripted. Only All American has been renewed so far, leaving the fate of The Winchesters in question. It also competes against Walker, Walker: Independence, Kung Fu, Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights, and All American: Homecoming. Unfortunately, there are too many shows and not enough slots for all series to get renewed.
Dean Winchester's return in The Winchesters episode 13 explains how the show fits into Supernatural. It has now been established that The Winchesters is in a different universe. Dean Winchester is also in heaven and was exploring the multiverse when he came across these Winchesters. He also discovered the Akrida, which Chuck created before he died, in case he failed to wipe out humanity.
