I interviewed Adrian Lyne for Variety newspaper when his "Fatal Attraction" was about to be released, and never expected it to have such a lasting impact. Producer Bree Mills is only the latest to capitalize on its success some 30 years ago with "The One Night Stand", done XXX style with similar results.
The Girlfriends Films release is a 3-parter (made for one of Bree's porn websites named Pretty Dirty), with a separate vignette titled "The Fake Sugar Daddy" tossed in to fill out the 2-hour running time.
Cherie DeVille stars as a real estate agent who shows Danny Mountain around a house he might buy as an investment, and immediately upon entering the master bedroom they unrealistically get down to business, porn style. Immediately after the facial, he splits, and Cherie starts overacting, talking to herself, perhaps another emulation of Glenn's famous over-the-top approach.
As much as DeVille exaggerates, so to does Mountain's clueless, long- suffering wife Mercedes Carrera. Bree's writing is poor (or nonexistent) as usual, so the big climax scene of Cherie suddenly popping up in the couple's bedroom after some marital humping, claiming to be a sex therapist is utterly ridiculous. Mercedes is only mildly skeptical, and dumbly goes along with all of DeVille's improv, seguing into a hot threesome and open ending promising more & more hell to pay in dreaded sequels (Bree loves to run weak premises into the ground) for Danny, just because he had the temerity to sort of disrespect Cherie in their first go-round.
The short subject is something of a throwaway, notable for pressing various crew members into impromptu NonSex acting roles, saving on budget.
The untalented Ike Diesel, clearly named after Vin by the porno modeling agency and who failed to impress me in a previous story film (amidst his generally gonzo casting) "Wingmen", plays a jerk shooting the breeze as couch potato with pal AJ Bucks, Bree's inevitable production assistant. He's struck up internet correspondence with Chanel Preston, a modern-day gold-digger who fleeces dumb guys (okay, Ike is appropriate casting) she seeks out via the internet.
He gets to hump the beautiful lady, but has to face her wrath when he doesn't come up with the $2,000 she's requested. The problem with mindless scenes like this one is that I'm reminded that I'm not really watching a movie with actors but rather a cheap documentary of sex acts performed by professional sex workers who back in the day called themselves actors but are now Adult models. The all-important illusion is broken.
