Exclusive: SNL alum Taran Killam has been tapped for a major recurring role opposite Kaitlin Olson in Drew Goddard’s ABC drama series High Potential.

Killam will play Ludo Radovic, the salt-of-the-earth, kind-hearted, and disarmingly funny ex of Morgan (Olson) and the father of Elliott (Matthew Lamb) and Chloe. As she consults for the LAPD, Morgan heavily leans on Ludo as the primary caregiver for Ava (Amira J), Elliott, and Chloe.

High Potential, from ABC Signature, follows Morgan (Olson), a single mom with three kids and an exceptional mind, who helps solve an unsolvable crime when she rearranges some evidence during her shift as a cleaner for the police department. When they discover she has a knack for putting things in order because of her high intellectual potential, she is brought on as a consultant to work with a by-the-book seasoned detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), and together they form an unusual and unstoppable team.

Last Action Hero underperformed despite its great comedy elements and clever satire of the action genre. Schwarzenegger's comedic timing shines, but not all his comedy movies hit the mark like Last Action Hero. The movie's meta humor and self-awareness have since influenced modern blockbusters, making it ahead of its time.

While one of Arnold Schwarzeneggers biggest action movies should have been a hit, the famous flop Last Action Hero instead underperformed even though it was secretly great. Not all of Arnold Schwarzeneggers comedy movies work. The actor has some great comedic timing, but the basic premise of a big brawny action hero showing up where hes not expected isnt always enough to carry an entire movie. For every Twins, there is a Junior, and for every hit like Kindergarten Cop, there is a miss like 2017's Killing Gunther. Despite this, I wish the screen veterans most overlooked comedy was better received.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a significant cultural force in Hollywood for more than 40 years, taking time out to launch a political career and generally conquer the world during that time. After becoming arguably the greatest bodybuilder to ever do it, Arnie parlayed his bodybuilding fame into Hollywood stardom, becoming one of the biggest action stars in the industry. Not bad for a guy who started out driving tanks in the Austrian army. 

Now, Netflix will tell the man's incredible life story in a three-part documentary series that promises to chart Schwarzenegger's journey "from rural Austria to the highest echelons of the American dream."

The streamer has released a trailer for "Arnold," which is set to debut next month and promises to unveil previously unseen footage of the Austrian Oak, alongside candid interviews with Schwarzenegger and various friends. Interestingly, the trailer also seems to reveal that Netflix has shot a bunch...

Allison Tolman has been cast in “St. Denis Medical,” a comedy pilot at NBC from “Superstore” and “American Auto” creator Justin Spitzer.

The pilot is described as a mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where the dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.

Tolman will play Alex, the supervising nurse in St. Denis’ emergency department who is dedicated to providing excellent care to her patients, often sacrificing her personal life to maintain her high standards.

Tolman recently held the recurring role of Winnie McLendon in “Gaslit,” the Starz limited series based on the Watergate scandal. She is also known for starring as Molly Solverson in Season 1 of FX’s “Fargo,” which earned her a Critics Choice Award as well as nominations for an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Her other TV credits include “Why Women Kill” on Paramount+ and ABC’s “Emergence” and “Downward Dog.

If you’ve been putting off watching the terrifically adventurous Brendan Fraser-led “The Mummy” again, now’s the time to prioritize it. The 1999 film is one of a bevy of movies leaving HBO Max in June, the full list of which you can read below.

Also leaving HBO and HBO Max this month is a bevy of Tyler Perry’s Madea movies, “Rounders,” “She’s All That” and “Real Steel.”

If you’re looking to prioritize some selections, “Presumed Innocent” is one of Harrison Ford’s most underrated films (featuring one of his best performances) and the Melissa McCarthy/Jason Bateman comedy “Identity Thief” is good for some solid laughs.

Exclusive: Freevee, Amazon’s ad-supported video streaming service is developing Arranged, a half-hour single-camera romantic comedy series co-written and executive produced by With Love creator Gloria Calderón Kellett and Saturday Night Live alum Taran Killam. The project stems from Kellett’s GloNation Studios under the company’s overall deal with Amazon Studios.

Arranged follows a self-destructive movie star (Killam) and an ambitious pop Latina diva who agree to a mutually beneficial “public relationship” in order to help sell her upcoming breakup album and save his declining career, a decision they immediately regret as they quickly realize they hate each other’s guts.

The series is fictional but there are obvious points of reference: the high-profile romances between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck as well as Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson.

Kellett and Killam will executive produce with Marc Provissiero (Pen15) for Kellett’s GloNation banner as part of her Amazon Studios deal.

The streaming wars are just as fiery and competitive as ever. Disney+ now has one Marvel TV show under its belt (WandaVision), with another one to come in March (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier). In response, Netflix is broadening its reach with its list of new releases for March 2021.

Netflix always features plenty of international options for viewers across the globe, but March is the first month where it seems as though international releases make up roughly half of Netflix’s originals. And that’s great! China’s The Yin Yang Master and Spain’s Coven of Sisters both look to be intriguing films this month.

Arnold Schwarzenegger “feels fantastic” after undergoing heart surgery to replace an aortic valve — the second time that he’s had heart surgery in the past two years.

The 73-year-old actor/politician announced his recovery via Twitter on Friday afternoon with a photo from his hospital bed and noted that he’s been walking the streets of Cleveland following the operation. He did not disclose when the surgery took place.

“Thanks to the team at the Cleveland Clinic, I have a new aortic valve to go along with my new pulmonary valve from my last surgery,” Schwarzenegger said. “I feel fantastic and have already been walking the streets of Cleveland enjoying your amazing statues. Thank you to every doc and nurse on my team!”

Arnold Schwarzenegger has pretty much seen and done it all during his lengthy and legendary career, but one thing that’s always been missing is a starring role in a TV series. With the small screen’s current Golden Age continuing though, the 73 year-old action icon is set to finally take the plunge and become the latest A-list star to take their talents to television.

The former Governor of California is set to play the lead role and executive produce an untitled globetrotting spy series that hails from Scorpion creator and Jack Ryan showrunner Nick Santora. The plot is set to tell a father-daughter story set in the world of international espionage, but in bad news for fans, it’ll tell an original story and isn’t the True Lies spinoff that’s currently in the works for Disney Plus, with Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis both having been rumored...

The first of the month is always a big day for streaming services, as that’s when the bulk of their new content for that month tends to hit, with the rest being dished out in small batches over the following weeks. Ever since making his return to acting following a stint as the 38th Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger seems to have been having more fun than usual, as well as attempting to branch out and tackle the kind of roles that were a rarity during the height of his success as one of the biggest movie stars the business had ever seen.

His comeback vehicle The Last Stand is a sorely undervalued gem, while his tongue-in-cheek cameos in The Expendables franchise saw him having an absolute blast as his character Trench turned out to show more self-awareness than his Terminator ever could. Obviously, the big Austrian has also reprised his signature role twice in Genisys and Dark Fate, but following the fourth disappointing sequel in a row, it appears as though the franchise may finally be done for good this time.

As the summer begins to roll in it’s a time of endings for Netflix. No, Netflix isn’t going anywhere anytime soon obviously. The streamer continues to claim that its set up to churn out content through the rest of the year despite the coronavirus pandemic freeze on TV and movie production. Netflix’s new releases for June 2020, however, are highlighted by a couple of high profile finales.

13 Reasons Why premieres its fourth and final season on June 5. Before that, Fuller House is set to bow on June 2…though that franchise has been through the finale experience before so we’ll see about that. The Netflix original shows that are (presumably) in the middle of their run this month include Queer Eye (June 5), F is for Family, and The Politician (June 19).

As if Netflix wasn’t already popular enough, they’ve stood to gain a lot of profit from the current outbreak of the Covid-19. Over the last couple of years, the likes of Amazon Prime, Hulu and HBO Now have upped the ante to seriously compete with Netflix, but if it’s variety you seek, then it’ll be quite a while before another service manages to dethrone the juggernaut.

These aren’t the films that made them famous or kept them famous. These are the other ones. ABC has ordered a pilot for an untitled single-camera comedy from Hannah Simone.

The “New Girl” alum will star in, write, and executive produce the project, which is inspired by Simone’s family. In the series, Hannah (Simone) and her Indian-American immigrant father have always been close, but after she admits to herself that she’s in a dead-end job and he reveals his marriage is over, they’re starting over together and each finding a new path. This new chapter will either make them crazy close or just crazy.

Along with Simone, Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson will also write and executive produce. ABC Studios will produce. Fusfeld and Cuthbertson are currently under an overall deal at the studio.

Hannah Simone has set up a comedy project with a put pilot commitment at ABC, Variety has learned.

The “New Girl” alum will star in, write, and executive produce the untitled single camera project, which is inspired by Simone’s non-traditional Indian family. It follows a woman (Simone) who is broke, single, and nearly 30-something, as she and her father form a new bond when her father announces that he and her mother are separating.

Along with Simone, Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson will also write and executive produce. ABC Studios will produce. Fusfeld and Cuthbertson are currently under an overall deal at the studio.

The project keeps Simone in business with ABC, with the actress having starred in the “Greatest American Hero” reboot that went to pilot at the broadcaster last season. The pilot generated considerable buzz and was said to be well received at ABC, but was ultimately passed over.

Saturday Night Live too easy on Donald Trump? Just the suggestion might send Maga hats exploding into the sky, but former cast member Taran Killam says executive producer Lorne Michaels was once intent on making the pre-White House Trump “likable.”

Long before Alec Baldwin puckered up for his orange-faced SNL Trump portrayal, Michaels was trying to get the then-candidate to guest-host the show, recalls Killam on Matt Gourley’s Earwolf podcast I Was There Too.

Saban Films has acquired North American rights to Matthew Ross’ “Siberia,” a thriller with Keanu Reeves and Ana Ularu, Variety has confirmed.

“Siberia” follows Lucas Hill (Reeves), an American diamond trader who sells blue diamonds of dubious origin to buyers in Russia. As the deal quickly begins to disintegrate, he falls into an obsessive relationship with a Russian cafe owner (Ularu) in a small Siberian town while colliding with the treacherous world of the diamond trade.

“Siberia” was produced by Stephen Hamel and Reeves of Company Films, Gabriela Bacher of Summerstorm Entertainment/Film House Germany, Dave Hansen, and Braden Aftergood. Molly Ringwald rounds out the cast of the romantic crime-thriller.

The script was written by Scott B. Smith from a story by Hamel and Smith. Ross’ first feature, “Frank & Lola,” premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

Bill Bromiley and Jonathan Saba negotiated the deal for Saban Films, with Endeavor Content on behalf of the filmmakers.

Expanding Chinese mini-studio Vision Film has acquired mainland China rights to upcoming horror-thriller “Ghosts of War.” Directed by Eric Bress, the film is currently in post-production and is expected to hit Chinese theaters at the end of the year.

“Ghosts” follows five battle-hardened American soldiers who are assigned, near the end of World War II, to hold a French chateau formerly occupied by the Nazi high command. The mission quickly descends into madness when they encounter a supernatural enemy more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield.

The film stars Brenton Thwaites, Theo Rossi (“Sons of Anarchy”), Skylar Astin (“Pitch Perfect 1 & 2”), Kyle Gallner (“American Sniper”), and Alan Ritchson (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”), alongside Shaun Toub (“Iron Man”) and Billy Zane.

Action movie icon and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger today received emergency heart surgery in Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. The actor, who is 70 and has suffered from heart problems in the past, is now said to be in stable condition.

The Terminator star was undergoing planned surgery to replace a catheter valve when he suffered complications and further intervention became urgent. The treatment took several hours but the issues were eventually resolved.

Schwarzenegger recently returned to the big screen in his traditional style with Killing Gunther, playing a famous hitman who proves remarkably difficult to get rid of. He is currently scheduled to star in a sequel to his 1988 hit Twins - Triplets will also star Danny DeVito and Eddie Murphy....

With a documentary crew in tow to record the process, hit man Blake (Taran Killam) leads a group of skilled assassins who have had enough of the world’s number one hitman Gunther (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and decide to do what they do best, kill him! Despite the combined talents of the team however, completing the kills turns out to be a harder than they had expected, as their plans turn into a series of bungled encounters with Gunther always seeming to be one step ahead.

Kung Fury: Earlier this week, we heard that Michael Fassbender will be starring in Kung Fury and now comes word that Arnold Schwarzenegger (Killing Gunther, above) will be joining him in the action comedy. David Sandberg will direct the feature, which is a sequel to his short film, an homage to martial arts and police action thrillers made in the 1980s. Following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival Lizzie, the period piece centered on suspected axe murderer Lizzie Borden, has been acquired by Saban Films for North American distribution.

Starring Chloë Sevigny, Kristen Stewart, and Kim Dickens, Lizzie was directed by Craig William Macneill, who helmed the Candle Cove first season of Channel Zero and 2015's The Boy.

Saban Films plans to team up with Roadside Attractions to bring Lizzie to theaters this summer, and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details as they are announced.
