In a major push into animation, media tech investment firm Stars Collective is partnering with Shanghai-based El Pajaro Pictures to develop, produce and distribute a fresh take on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved classic “The Little Prince.”

“The Little Prince” weaves a poetic tale of a young prince who travels from planet to planet, meeting eccentric characters that offer allegorical insights into human nature. Narrated by a stranded aviator, the story unfolds as the prince recounts his adventures and his quest to understand life’s deeper truths.

The novella has inspired several adaptations. The 1974 live-action musical, directed by Stanley Donen, captured its whimsy, while Mark Osborne’s 2015 animated feature blended CGI and stop-motion and proved there’s still magic in the property, pulling in $97 million worldwide, including $24 million from China. The original 1943 book has been translated into over 300 languages with more than 200 million copies sold globally.

Media tech investment firm Stars Collective and visual effects powerhouse Dneg are joining forces to bring immersive theater experiences to the Chinese market. The partnership aims to develop, produce and operate virtual reality and immersive theater venues across China, with plans to expand into Southeast Asia and North America.

Dneg, the seven-time Oscar-winning VFX house behind “Dune: Part Two” and “Oppenheimer,” will provide technology, IP rights, financing and content creation services. Jussie Smollett’s conviction in an alleged hate crime hoax was overturned on Thursday by the Illinois Supreme Court.

The “Empire” actor was convicted in December 2021 of five felony counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly staging a hate crime against himself in 2019 and was sentenced to 150 days in county jail, plus 30 months of probation and $130,000 in restitution. This came after the original charges against him were dropped in March 2019, but the case was picked back up when the state conducted an independent inquiry with a special prosecutor. In December 2023, a state appellate court rejected his bid for an appeal and it was ruled that he would have to complete his full sentence, six days of which he served before being freed pending appeal. Wilcox racked up more than 75 credits during her 45-year screen career. Her TV guest roles range from Hawaii Five-o, Cagney & Lacey, Magnum, P.I. and L.A. Law to NCIS, The Neighborhood and Grey’s Anatomy. Her many films include Marshall’s Frankie and Johnny, Exit to Eden, Dear God, The Other Sister, Raising Helen and The Princess Diaries and its sequel. Other films include Runaway Bride, Seven, For the Boys, Legal Eagles and playing the mother of Elisabeth Shue’s character in The Karate Kid.

As such, the child makes a birthday wish, longing that his dad cannot lie for just one day. The wish comes true. 

What follows is a comedic showcase for star Jim Carrey to put his talents for physical comedy on display. The actor hilariously mugs and thrashes about in agony as Fletcher's newfound truthfulness gets him in various amounts of trouble. In one case, he cannot lie to exonerate a dishonest client. In another, he says openly lascivious things to a woman on the elevator. He gets slapped in the face and even arrested for his comments.

New York is poised to dramatically increase its film tax incentive from $420 million a year to $700 million, as it looks to stave off competition from New Jersey and Georgia.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced an agreement Thursday night on a $229 billion budget, after weeks of negotiations with state lawmakers.

Among many other provisions, the budget will increase the size of the film tax credit program, as well as raise the credit percentage from 25% to 30%, bringing it in line with rival states. The program will also be extended to 2034, according to a source familiar with the conceptual agreement.

The agreement with lawmakers will allow productions to receive a tax credit on above-the-line costs — salaries for actors, directors, writers and producers. The state previously offered credit only for below-the-line costs. The above-the-line costs will be capped, though it is not yet certain at what level.

Love Is Blind season 4 star Jackelina Bonds recently revealed the reasons behind her emotional meltdown on the show. She began acting strangely while in Mexico with fiancé Marshall Glaze. As she sobbed throughout the night, worrying about pushing Marshall away, she repeatedly mentioned her family and having people to take care of.

After the first five episodes were released, Jackelina opened up about her on-camera breakdown on Instagram. The post included a screenshot from an Entertainment Weekly interview, where she revealed her father is battling head and neck cancer. Additionally, her brother had just been released from prison. Amidst this difficult time, the 27-year-old has been her family's primary caregiver.

They went to the honeymoons with the other couples, and things got awkward. Kwame was there engaged to Chelsea Griffin, and it didn’t seem like the feelings between him and Micah were over.

Ten episodes into production of the Apple TV+ grief comedy Shrinking, co-creator Brett Goldstein insists the cast and crew were still asking, “How the fuck is Harrison Ford here?” In truth, Goldstein (aka Roy Kent of Ted Lasso) has often wondered it too, incredulous that the Indiana Jones star agreed to make his comedy debut in the small-screen ensemble rolling out Jan. 27. But there he is, playing a gruff shrink opposite Jason Segel’s grieving, widowed therapist in the half-hour series from Segel, Goldstein and his former Ted Lasso showrunner Bill Lawrence. The trio ­— Segel and Goldstein in person, Lawrence later by phone — joined THR in late January to preview the show that’s as likely to make viewers laugh as it is to make them cry.

Responsible for arguably two of the best horror films of the 21st century in Dog Soldiers and The Descent, Neil Marshall’s name used to be synonymous with, at the very least, a bloody good time. More recently though – since his brief foray into TV, helming huge episodes of Game of Thrones, Westworld and the like – his features haven’t so much taken a bit of a knock as they’ve fallen off a cliff. The one-two of 2019’s dire Hellboy reboot, and 2020’s even-more-dire witch drama The Reckoning well and truly knocked his name out of favour for many. And whilst his latest – good old fashioned monster mash The Lair – is definitely a swing in the right direction for the director, it’s unlikely it’ll win him any new fans.

John Sturges' 1963 war epic "The Great Escape," based on true events surrounding a massive prison break from a Polish Nazi P.O.W. camp during World War II, climaxes with one of the more famous stunts in cinema history. After having escaped from the camp, American soldier Captain Virgil Hilts (Steve McQueen) boosts a motorcycle and leads his Nazi pursuers on a glorious chase through the German countryside toward the Swiss border. According to cinema lore, and confirmed in Marshall Terrill's 2020 biography "Steve McQueen: In His Own Words," many of the shots in that final chase are of McQueen himself. McQueen was an avid motorcyclist, and was given permission to ride his very own 650 cc Triumph TR6 Trophy on camera for "The Great Escape." Thanks to the magic of editing, McQueen also played one of his own motorcycle-mounted Nazi pursuers in the same sequence.
