A documentary feature is set to focus on the dramatic highs and lows for the BlackBerry smartphone.
Filmmaker Eddie Schmidt (Ugly Delicious) is helming the movie that is currently in production. It aims to offer a deep dive into the real story behind the smartphone brand that was developed by Research In Motion and became ubiquitous in the 2000s. Canadian-based marketing company Viral Nation brought the project to Unrealistic Ideas, the unscripted production company known for HBO’s McMillions and founded by Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Archie Gips.
The untitled project is set to tell the story of how a technology giant came out of a small Canadian town and would go on to outpace major corporations in the smartphone race before ultimately flaming out. A planned release date has not yet been announced.

ABC has set Chelsea Handler and Marla Gibbs to guest star in Episode 7 of “Not Dead Yet” Season 2.
“Not Dead Yet” stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell, a journalist who takes a job writing obituaries at the SoCal Independent and soon gains the ability to see and speak to ghosts. The episode featuring Handler and Gibbs, which airs in late March, sees Lexi (Lauren Ash) and Duncan (Brad Garrett) spend a weird version of quality time at the newspaper’s softball game.
Handler will play Sharon Darynson, the owner of the rival news station to the SoCal Independent and the long-time nemesis to Duncan Rhoades (Brad Garrett). While everyone else runs in fear of Duncan, Sharon refuses to be intimidated by him.
Gibbs — the mother of Angela E. Gibbs, who stars in “Not Dead Yet” as Cricket — will play Cricket’s mother, Nana Sugar, who becomes one of Nell’s (Gina Rodriguez) obituary subjects.

Chelsea Handler is standing with the WGA strike — “obviously.” The comedian told TheWrap as much during an interview promoting her “Little Big Bitch” comedy tour, which will see Handler headlining the the Red Rocks Amphitheater near Denver on May 10 for SeriesFest.
“Obviously, I stand with the writers, absolutely, and the WGA,” Handler said. “It’s unfortunate that it has to come to this.”
To Handler, sharing profits and offering better deals to writers seems like an “obvious move” for large corporations that “make tons of money.”
“The trickle-down economics don’t necessarily work. So I think it’s the only fair thing to do, and hopefully it’ll be over sooner than later,” Handler said.
The actor and writer also spoke about potentially taking over “The Daily Show” after Trevor Noah left the late-night show in December. Comedy Central has since cycled through guest hosts on a weekly basis, with Handler hosting in February.

Exclusive: Chelsea Handler’s bestselling memoir Life Will Be the Death of Me is heading to the small screen. In a competitive situation with multiple studios bidding, Universal TV, where Handler is under a first-look deal, has acquired rights to develop the book as a TV series, which Handler will executive produce.
Life Will Be the Death of Me was published April 9 by Penguin Random House. Per the publisher’s official description, the book tells “the funny, sad, super-honest, all-true story of Chelsea Handler’s year of self-discovery—featuring a nerdily brilliant psychiatrist, a shaman, four Chow Chows, some well-placed security cameras, various family members (living and departed), friends, assistants and a lot of edibles.”
Comedian Handler’s 2008 bestselling book Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, a collection of mostly autobiographical essays, was adapted as a TV comedy, which was picked up to series by NBC and ran for one season.

Documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville is hard to pin down. Chelsea Handler is so successful it's hard to imagine her anything less than confident.

Following her candid four-part documentary series Chelsea Does, Chelsea Handler is set to bring all of her deep, dark issues back to Netflix this May with her simply titled talk show Chelsea. Today, the comedian debuted the first poster for the series (below), along with confirming a few scattered details of the show’s schedule.
The gist is that Chelsea will air three nights a week (on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday), in 30-minute episodes beginning at 12:01 Am. The debut episode will air at that time on May 11. If just looking at the schedule is making you tired, worry not – each episode will be available to stream if you ever (inevitably) miss one.
Netflix’s official synopsis of Chelsea suggests the structure of a normal late-night series, with a few topical subjects discussed between the host and her celebrity guests.

Happy Birthday @reesewitherspoon A photo posted by Chelsea Handler (@chelseahandler) on Mar 22, 2016 at 10:05am Pdt Birthdays are a big deal, especially when it's the big 4-0. Chelsea Handler knows this, and not only did she wish her Bff Reese Witherspoon a happy birthday via Instagram, but she went naked while doing so. Chelsea is definitely no stranger to challenging the social media platform's nudity standards with her Nsfw snaps, but this time around, it's all for the love of Reese; the comedian and Chelsea Does star uploaded a photo of herself completely naked - save for a pair of black socks - on Tuesday, writing, "Happy Birthday @reesewitherspoon." In addition to stripping down, Chelsea also help celebrated Reese's milestone at her star-studded birthday bash in La over the weekend, a party that also brought out Jennifer Aniston, Chris Martin, Kate Hudson, and Taylor Swift.

Chelsea Handler ended her hit talk show Chelsea Lately in 2014 and debuted a new Netflix docuseries, Chelsea Does, in January. Chelsea also revealed earlier this year that Justin Bieber was her "worst" interview guest, and it's no secret that she's tired of talking to and about celebrities. That got us thinking about all the funniest, meanest, most candid things she's said about stars she's gabbed about over the years. Here are our personal favorites.

The scrapbook on the dining-room table is unexpected. You picture Chelsea Handler in her free time enjoying vodka on the rocks, maybe, but never fussing with photo tabs and mounting tape. Yet here are the supplies, and scattered around are photos: a black-and-white one of Handler at dinner with BFFs Sandra Bullock and Mary McCormack, another of a younger Chelsea holding a cigarette and standing leapfrog-style over a friend. It is only 11:30 in the morning, after all.Do you do a lot of crafty things? Handler makes a face. It’s not as stony or derisive as the one she directed at an obsequious wedding planner, or the guy who runs a historic South Carolina plantation with the aim of “not making slavery more horrific than it may have been,” in Chelsea Does, the four-part documentary series that just premiered on Netflix and explores various fraught topics from marriage to racism.

Chelsea Handler's new Netflix docuseries, Chelsea Does, is streaming now, and the former E! talk-show host promoted the new project at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend. During an interview with Variety on Saturday, the 40-year-old comedian was asked to reveal the worst celebrity guest she ever had on Chelsea Lately, and it wasn't long before she was able to decide on somebody: Justin Bieber. "Oh, there's so many," she responded before saying, "I mean, Justin Bieber maybe? 'Cause he was trying to flirt with me, and it was so uncomfortable." She went on: "Like, that's his schtick. He would come on and flirt with you, and you just felt like a child molester right away." Justin dropped by Chelsea Lately a handful of times during its seven-year run and laid on the charm pretty aggressively each time. When asked if any of his moves worked on her,...

At the Sundance premiere of her new Netflix documentary series Chelsea Does, former late-night host Chelsea Handler says that she doesn’t want anyone to think that she’s getting all serious. “I know I’m not a journalist or a film-maker or anything. Chelsea Does is indulgent and self-obsessed, but so is stand-up comedy. The kind way to describe that is self-knowledge, and the less-kind way is self-absorption, but either way, good stand-up, more so than other comedy formats, relies heavily on an individual point of view. In her four-episode Netflix documentary series, Chelsea Handler travels and interviews people and witnesses various facets of the global human experience, and still turns all of that into, "So, what do I, Chelsea Handler, have to say?" That's her job as a comedian. And yet in Chelsea Does, it's in spiritual conflict with the documentary, almost newsmagazine format, and with the show's occasional explainer tone. Is episode "Drugs" about cultures that surround psycho-affective experiences, or about what Handler thinks about drugs? It skews heavily to the latter, but it includes enough of the former that you can't write it off as "for Chelsea Handler superfans only.

It’s this simple, pure motivation for answers and discovery that runs through all four episodes of Handler’s new “docu-series” Chelsea Does (in order of intended viewing: Marriage, Racism, Silicon Valley, and Drugs). Chelsea Handler tackles racism with her trademark (lack of) sensitivity in a new trailer for her Netflix series “Chelsea Does.” Handler takes on all sides in the issue, which includes asking two black residents of South Carolina — the state she claims is leading the nation in police brutality — if they ever think “F–k these white people already.” She also asks Rev. Al Sharpton “Is that offensive to you, that black people love watermelon and fried chicken?” “I just want to live in a place where a person of every color is able to hit on me,” Handler also says.

"Chelsea Does" What is it? "Chelsea Does" is a four-part Netflix Documentary Series featuring Chelsea Handler exploring four topics of personal and universal fascination: marriage, racism, Silicon Valley and drugs. With her unique voice and provocative point of view, Chelsea will be seen confronting the topics that connect humanity, having the hard conversations about things that are not easy to talk about, and calibrating and learning who she is along the way. [official synopsis via Netflix] I'll like it if I like... when "Chelsea Lately" took itself (somewhat) seriously. Why should I care? Chelsea Handler has always had a unique voice, and now she's putting purpose behind it. That's not to say helming "Chelsea Lately" or guest starring on "Web Therapy" and "This Means War" wasn't important work, but in her investigative docu-series "Chelsea Does," Handler is exploring difficult universal concepts...

Chelsea Handler isn't afraid to let fans see her under the influence.
"I want to show people what happens when you get f---ed-up," Handler says in a new trailer for her new Netflix documentary series Chelsea Does.
In a clip from the four-part series – which, in addition to drugs, will delve into the topics of technology, marriage and racism – Handler is seen chatting up Willie Nelson about marijuana and throwing up after ingesting ayahuasca, a brew developed by indigenous Peruvians as a traditional spiritual medicine used in ceremonies.

If you can ingest it, snort it or inhale it, there's a good chance Chelsea Handler will put it in her body. Against any medical expert's wisdom, she wants to show the world what happens when you have a wild time. And with the help of a few friends like Willie Nelson, it seems that nothing will stop her on her mission. The trailer above represents just one segment of the larger Netflix series called "Chelsea Does": Outside of drugs, the other episodes confront marriage, technology and racism. We'll have to wait and see which is the most lethal after all. Directed by Oscar and Emmy-nominated Eddie Schmidt, "Chelsea Does" will make its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival on Friday, January 22. All four episodes will appear on Netflix Saturday, January 23. Check out the video above to see if you can keep up with Chelsea. Read More: Watch:...

In the new trailer for her upcoming Netflix docuseries, Chelsea Handler proves that it's hard to stay at a comedic distance from your subject when your subject is a potent hallucinogenic brew used by indigenous Peruvians to induce a life-altering spiritual journey. Chelsea will figure out a way, though. Probably make a joke about the bucket or something. "Chelsea Does … Drugs" is one of four episodes of Handler's new docuseries Chelsea Does, premiering January 23. The show's other episodes will explore marriage, Silicon Valley, and racism, topics that seem like they would benefit from an existential exploration of one's place in our vast and beautiful universe, so here's hoping they shot the drug one first.
