I think some movies are always going to be affected by the lens you watch them under. I'm a massive fan of a horror movie called "The Collector". About a jewel thief who breaks into a house only to be forced to battle a serial killer who's created elaborate traps to torture the family who was supposed to be on vacation. The movie has an amazing soundtrack, great writing and cinematography, but at the end of the day it's a gory horror, difficult appreciate for anyone excepting film makers and horror fans.
MFKZ is stuck in a similar position. Its a scifi neo jpop gangsta animation that both embraces thug culture aesthetic while at the same time pointing out how miserable it is and being an epileptic seizure inducing animated scifi comedy superhero film.
Whos the audience for that? Well I guess I am. I loved the refusal to adhere to a consistent animation technique. I loved the style and I cheered at the shoot outs.
I think its awesome in the same way "Into the spider-verse" is awesome. Its action filled, kinetic and as an artist, inspiring. If I had a complaint Id say some of it is a bit been there done that, as far as the story goes. If youve seen anything like Kill-La-Kill youve seen this before. Still, I personally loved it.

If you like GTA San Andreas, you'll like this movie.
If you liked Aqua Teen Hunger Force, you'll like this movie.
If you like over the top gun sound effects, you'll like this movie.
If you like stories that continuously change while the movie is happening, you'll like this movie.
Just sit down and watch it. It's fun, crazy, weird and hilarious. I even had to loop a few scenes just to absorb each moment of the action.
Describe this in one word... Dope.

This movie really shows you can throw a bunch of ideas out there and make a movie. It's crazy but it flows and makes sense of course it's not the best animation out there but it is something that entertains you. It doesn't have some big hidden meaning behind it that I can see but I liked how the animation flowed well and the creativity put into this was something out of a dream. Soundtrack is perfect for the scenes they use music and there are a couple Easter eggs like the Men in black MIB on the license plates of the government people. Overall fun movie I would most definitely watch again!

What more is there to say. There's a small environmental message wrapped up in an origin reveal and a violent action piece.
Full of tropes and stereotypes, but kinda enjoyable to half watch while you are cruising the internet for more satisfying input

Sub culture at its best. Fun & action from the first minute.
Extraordinary visual in different styles, very creative.
I can not understand mediocre reviews from mainstream media (old men?)

...Everything else is subpar though. The voice acting, the plot, the directing, all need work.
I can't express enough how super underrated this movie is. I watched this movie over the summer for fun and I LOVED it! It's currently my favorite movie at the moment and I'm obsessed with it. The characters are amazing, the story is super crazy and fun to watch, the animation is so pretty and gorgeous to look it, and the soundtrack was perfectly placed and makes the film great.

A highlight video popped up on YouTube and I had just smoked. My interest was peaked and I found the full movie on Netflix. I was not disappointed, but was left a little wanting.
The art style is super dope. Really loved it. Definitely some nods to the ground breaking animes from the 90s. A shot remake i noticed was when the cell door crushed the guard. Definitely an homage to Akira.
I do wish that we got some more back story. This is definitely a character driven story, but we don't learn much about the others. That's honestly my only gripe with the film and why it's a 7 and not a 9.
If you like different, you'll like this. In my opinion, it's a fresh take in a time when everything is pulled from the idea rolladex.

Watched it because I thought the art was cool, but that's pretty much it. Story is weird at times, a bit is still unexplained, and I feel that the movie inserted a little not so subtle politics as well as a... Conspiracy theory, I guess?
Art is stellar. Decent action. Plot leaves a lot to be desired.

A very good animation movie , good scrip , good music if you can watch this movie , go .
This movie does start off a little Bland but the animations pretty spot-on the American voice overs are not bad. It gets better as it goes on. The plot pending on how much you pay attention can actually be very good with some underlining subjects.
Japanese animation in this super intricate style is the best of the best entertainment, aside from a few of my person style preferences.
The term, "wretched" is used by the bad guy in part of the film. I think that's my problem and explanation for my review. I lived in Los Angeles ,in the middle of Los Angeles, it is frequently "wretched" unless you're wealthy. Although this is an exaggeration by the Japanese producers, as an American I want you to think if you're OK with this depiction? Maybe we need to see this? But... if you watch this movie, I'd ask you have you seen how the Japanese treat each other, treat their own belongings, and towns and cities? We need to take seeing this well made animation as an opportunity to get better, and be better than others see us, particularly if your A native Angelino, a transplant there, or anyone in California...... unless your life aspirations are to live in a cardboard box, surrounded by roaches on the streets of some city in California!

Honestly a quality animation. The art style, characters, and story are all enjoyable and original. Although it leaves some questions unanswered it was an all-around fun experience.
I don't really understand the complaints of some of the reviews. Nothing in the movie felt forced. Sure, a little more exposition would've been nice, but I don't think it was necessary for the story. It was meant to be relatively short and able to stand on it's own for what it is. It wasn't supposed to be an epic masterpiece with an extensive history and a fantastical world full of surprises.
The movie does what it sets out to do, and I enjoyed the ride. It didn't have me busting a gut with laughter or crying from emotion, but it was a fun and unique piece of art that I enjoyed. Certainly a lot better than some recent major production films.

I thought this was a great movie. Very creative. Now I curse. I actually curse a lot and this movie showed me how stupid I look when doing so. I would have given the movie 8-10 if it wasn't for all the F-bombs.
Is that what's considered a "stoner movie"? Breaking fourth walls, giving less than zero s**ts about the setting, starting nowhere and going nowhere... I can see now why some more intelligent reviews panned the pacing and the plot delivery, but... I think that's far too lenient of a way to put it. I don't know about the source material, nor do I want to, but this movie felt like a very, very, very, veeeeery protracted pilot episode of a C-list anime. Basically less than half an hour of practical content stretched with some slow-mo and cringe humor. The trailers looked sick, the endub had A-listers, this was supposed to be a blast, but... was there a need for Danny Trejo? Was there a need for Gus Fring? When you look at absolute, utter idiocy... does the voice acting even matter when hardly any lines are even recorded?
And, frankly, for just the lulz and stoner value - I could maybe rate it higher. But then there was this cringy love story, propaganda of green party and even BLM(and even the J-problem). Maybe if this was a proper series, start to end, with many more hours of content than just this movie - these three arcs could maybe somehow be "presented". Instead there's only in-your-face R-rated action for the sake of it. Sure, it's more than most modern movies, but at least they to tell a coherent dumb story, not a YTP kind of parody.
I can't hate it too much, the animation was sometimes entertaining, the gritty setting is at least better than Pixar shlock and, for what it's worth, it dejavu-d the scene of Rorschach getting swatted and that's worth something, I guess. But there is no way in hell that this worth more than 6 stars. It's not a movie, it's not a story, it's not a comedy, it's not an action piece, it's... nothing. A shallow mishmash that thinks that spices can cover up the lack of salt.
I avoided this when it got released and I quite regret watching it. If you also think that this is some hidden gem or otherwise a worthy anime - it's not. Whatever reminded you of its existence - ignore it and keep forgetting.
And, I'm not sure if it passes for a spoiler, but... this is also one of the cases when the trailers and clips pretty much tell the whole story. Because that's the stuff they are trying to sell you on. The stuff they don't show is the reason why I give it 4 stars. So rewatch the trailer if you want and spare yourself the bother with the movie.

This movie presents an amazing combination between japanese animation style and the typical setting of the United States' slums. As an animated adaptation of the namesake french comic, I watched this film with very mixed feelings. Even thought the animation (most specifically, the action scenes) is very well executed, the plot still relapses on a lot of boring clichés, leaving us with a sour ending, but some hope to see a sequel eventually.
