The idea for the show was pitched to the studio as a 4 volume graphic novel released through dark horse comics.
The show is set 600 years in the future, as established in episode 3.10.
From Season 2 onward, a line of dialogue from each episode serves as that episode's title.
The cast is credited at the beginning of each episode according to their "number."
A considerable amount of the crew has worked on the Stargate franchise. Most notable, creators Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie have both been writers on Stargate SG-1 (1997) and Stargate: Atlantis (2004), and both have been executive producers on Stargate SG-1 (1997), Stargate: Atlantis (2004) and Stargate: Atlantis (2004). Martin Wood, Peter DeLuise and Martin Gero have directed several episodes of the franchise and have also been producers. Recurring cast members David Hewlett and Torri Higginson have both been series regulars on Stargate: Atlantis (2004).
