In the Virgin River season 5 finale, we learned how Mel met her birth father, and in Virgin River season 6, we're going to learn how Mel's mother met her father.
Jumping off of Mel's major paternity discovery last season, the upcoming new episodes will find the bride-to-be getting to know her birth father, Everett (John Allen Nelson), and part of that will be learning his history.
Earlier this year, Netflix announced that a Virgin River prequel series had been placed in development, and the series would center on Mel's mother, Sarah, and Everett.
On Sept. 23, Deadline announced the official castings for Sarah and Everett's prequel counterparts. Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr will make their debuts as Mel's parents in a 1970s flashback in Virgin River season 6.

When it comes to the best romance movies on Netflix, there is such a great mix of originals as well as some of the best romances in movie history. These movies also traverse the spectrum from romantic comedies to both romances with happy and sad endings, bringing smiles, tears, or in some cases, both. When it comes to streaming services like Netflix, it is also hard to tell when movies will drop off the service, and at times it is hard to scroll through and find the best movies in any specific genre. The good news is, for romances, there are plenty to choose from.
The best romance movies on Netflix include now-classic love stories with stars like Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Robert Redford, alongside newer movies starring up-and-comers. These include teenage coming-of-age stories, tales of older men and women looking for love, and quite a few comedies with a strong romantic subplot.

As we creep towards summer, Netflix has a hot new list of fresh content, including the final season of “Never Have I Ever,” the sophomore season of ‘Human Resources” and the highly anticipated sixth season of “Black Mirror.”
Kicking off the start of the month on mega streamer are lots of family-friendly goodies like both “Nanny McPhee” and “Nanny McPhee Returns,” “Kicking and Screaming,” “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” and the “Angry Birds Movie.” But the adults won’t be left out of the conversation, as more mature flicks and series like “Jarhead,” “Funny People” and “We’re the Millers” are also hitting the platform this month.
And it wouldn’t be Netflix without its originals. “Take Care of Maya,” “Extraction 2” and the Sarah Snook-led “Run Rabit Run” will land on the site in June. And even if this isn’t enough to get you watching, Netflix will be streaming its Tudum festival on Saturday,...

With its engaging narrative and realistic dialogue, it's not surprising that some people have been wondering whether Forever My Girl is based on a true story. First released in 2018, Forever My Girl is a romantic drama following country musician, Liam Page, who leaves his fiancée, Josie, at the altar to focus on becoming a successful singer. While Liam does eventually return home 8 years later, he is soon in for a shock when he meets his and Josie's 7-year-old daughter, Billy. It's a gripping tale as viewers watch Liam try his best to rebuild relationships with his loved ones while also learning how to adapt to his newfound responsibilities.
Despite Forever My Girl not receiving the best response from critics, accruing just 24% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film did prove to be a hit with the audiences. Not only did they give it a respectable 79%, but they also helped it earn over...

Netflix gained a new competitor last month (sort of) when HBO Max and Discovery+ combined forces to create the confusingly-named Max. With its list of new releases for June 2023, however, Netflix doesn’t have too much to worry about.
This month is filled with some major Netflix original titles, not the least of which is The Witcher season 3 volume 1 on June 29. Though star Henry Cavill is set to leave the Polish folklore/video game adaptation in season 4, he remains very much entrenched as the titular Witcher in this next go-around. Other big TV hits include Manifest season 4 part 2 (June 2), Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources season 2 (June 9), and animated King Kong series Skull Island (June 22). That’s not even to mention the return of Black Mirror season 6. That still has yet to receive a release date but we have no doubt it will be properly epic once it arrives.

March 2022 is a great month for blonde women with cold, dead stares on Hulu.
With its list of new releases for March 2022, Hulu is highlighting two major original series ripped straight from the headlines. The first is The Dropout, which premieres on March 3. This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Rachel McAdams and Abby Ryder Fortson have been cast in “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” an adaptation of Judy Blume’s beloved coming-of-age book.
Fortson will play Margaret Simon, a sixth-grade girl who is going through puberty and searches the universe for any answers she can find. McAdams is portraying Margaret’s mother, Barbara.
The movie, set up at Lionsgate, will be written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig. It’s expected to begin production in April.
“Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” was first published in 1970 and remains hugely popular among young, budding readers. Blume has long been opposed to screen adaptations of her seminal work, a notable list that includes “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing,” “Blubber,” “Forever” and “Tiger Eyes.” However, the upcoming version of “Are You There God?” — especially the casting — comes with Blume’s blessing.
“Abby is funny and tender, strong yet vulnerable.

Exclusive: Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) is set to recur opposite John Cusack, Sasha Lane and Rainn Wilson in Utopia, Amazon’s straight-to-series adaptation of the British drama, written by Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn.
Utopia follows a group of young adults who meet online that are mercilessly hunted by a shadowy deep state organization after they come into possession of a near-mythical cult underground graphic novel. Within the comic’s pages, they discover the conspiracy theories that may actually be real and are forced into the dangerous, unique and ironic position of saving the world.
Rothe will play Samantha. Extremely idealistic, sharp-witted and a natural-born leader, Samantha earnestly believes in changing the world through action and scoffs at cheap rhetoric about progress. She could school any comic book nerd about the graphic novel Utopia and is embarking on a mission to uncover its secrets.

His character gets in over his head flipping weed with the neighborhood rebel (Alex Roe, “Forever My Girl”) while pursuing his new business partner’s enigmatic sister (Maika Monroe, “Independence Day: Resurgence”).

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle once again stood tall over the box-office weekend bringing in an additional $20 million. This gives the film a five-week domestic total of $317 million. Second and third places belong to two films making their debuts this week. With $16.4 million, the war drama 12 Strong finished just ahead of the heist-thriller Den of Thieves which brought in $15.3 million.
Steven Spielberg’s The Post dropped from the second to the fourth spot this week, earning $12.2 million. Despite the lower finish, the film has still made a decent $45.2 million during its five-week run. Elsewhere, The Greatest Showman also dropped a spot, yet it added $11 million to raise its five-week total to $113.5 million.

As “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” (Sony) plunders its way to a potential $400 million domestic gross (and not that far under $1 billion worldwide), it took the #1 spot for its third time. Despite the lack of breakout performers, grosses were close to totals last year.
Still, any reversal from the early uptick might be a warning sign. Final 2017 statistics on ticket sales came in, with the six percent fall in total audience making it the lowest attendance since at least 1993, and per capita the lowest draw among the public in even more decades.
All three new releases in the top 10 — “12 Strong” (Warner Bros.), “Den of Thieves” (Stx) and “Forever My Girl” (Roadside Attractions) — are independent productions utilizing distributors through service deals. It’s not uncommon (technically, that was the case with “Blade Runner 2049” and Warners), but none are big-ticket items for their distributors. Still, their performances still might suggest a weaker start to the year.

The weekend's new releases all outperformed expectations with both 12 Strong and Den of Thieves placing in the top three. However, neither was able to topple Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which topped the weekend box office for the third straight weekend and in the process passed Skyfall to become Sony's fifth-highest grossing film ever. Sony's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle delivered a chart-topping $20 million as the film's domestic cume climbs over $315 million. The film's international cume added another $32.6 million this weekend as its worldwide total now stands at $767.8 million, moving it into the top 80 all-time. In second place Warner Bros.'s release of 12 Strong narrowly edged out its new release competition finishing ahead of the $15 million the studio anticipated heading into the weekend, grossing an estimated $16.5 million. The film received an "A" CinemaScore from opening day audiences, which was made up of 55% males vs. 45% females and of that audience,...

This weekend sees Warner Bros.'s 12 Strong and STX's R-rated heist thriller Den of Thieves hitting theaters, both of which are targeting male audiences, which means they'll also have to contend with the NFL conference championship games this Sunday. Additionally, a couple of notable expansions are taking place this weekend along with Roadside's moderate release of Forever My Girl. That being said, all appear as if they'll be settling in behind last weekend's #1 and #2 films, as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Post are expected to hold on to those top two spots. Jumanji topped last weekend's box office after dropping just 24.5%, and this weekend it should continue to hold on rather well. While we're currently anticipating a drop around 32% and a fifth weekend around $19 million, don't be surprised if it hangs on a little better than that. The film should top $315 million domestically by end of day Sunday,...

For most of its running time, “Forever My Girl” is surprisingly inoffensive, the type of movie that you’d watch on a plane and not feel too embarrassed by – at least until it made you cry. (Pro tip: this is why you pick the window seat.) However, the country-fried romance written and directed by Bethany Ashton Wolf becomes a victim of self-sabotage as it nears its (predictable) conclusion, removing any good will it created in its first half.

An international superstar and tabloid target returns to his picturesque hometown, where he encounters the long-estranged high-school sweetheart who despises him before finding herself back in his arms. If this basic plot scenario sounds familiar, it’s because “Forever My Girl” is one ice-carving contest away from being a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie. That’s not even fair to the Hallmark movies, which would have at least given the female lead something of a personality and a plot arc; this movie’s all about the celebrity and his emotional journey, while the woman stands around like a prize waiting to be won, the...
