Earlier this week, we got word on two late casting additions for DC Studios' Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) and Emily Beecham (Into The Badlands) joining the production.

The original report only mentioned that Krumholtz and Beecham would play "Supergirl's parents," but didn't clarify if they'd been cast as Kara's biological mother and father Alura and Zor-El, or her human adoptive parents, Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers.

The former always seemed more likely since the Danvers were introduced much later (2016) in the comics, and Krumholtz has now taken to social media to confirm that he is indeed set to play Zor-El.

Szwarc died Tuesday of respiratory failure at Central Hospital in Loches, France, his son Sacha Szwarc, a film editor, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Jane Seymour, who starred alongside Christopher Reeve in the 1980 time-traveling romantic fantasy Somewhere in Time, said on Facebook that the role changed her career.

“Jeannot Szwarc was not just a brilliant director but a kind and generous soul,” she wrote. “He gifted us many timeless stories, including Somewhere in Time, a film that changed my life forever. May his memory be a blessing, and may his artistry live on in our hearts.”

His other film credits included the Martin Sheen-starring Enigma (1982), the Helen Slater-starring Supergirl (1984) and Santa Claus (1985), starring David Huddleston and Dudley Moore.

Understandably, the film world is mourning the loss overnight of one of its true greats, David Lynch. Lost a little though is that a fine genre director also passed away.

French director Jeannot Szwarc died on Wednesday 15th January, it was announced, at the age of 85.

Born in Paris, Swarc moved to America and cut his teeth on popular television shows such as Kojak and The Rockford Files. But for the movie-going generation of the 1970s and 1980s, it was his feature films that drew the most attention.

His big break was arguably 1978’s Jaws 2 (pictured), getting the nod when Steven Spielberg declined the opportunity to return to the sequel (and after original director John Hancock was fired). Perhaps his most acclaimed American film followed, 1980’s Somewhere In Time, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

Jeannot Szwarc, the French filmmaker best known as the director of the science fiction romantic drama “Somewhere in Time” (1980), “Jaws 2” (1978) and “Supergirl” (1984), died Thursday. He was 85.

I’ll be the first to admit that I was never the biggest fan of Supergirl—until I read Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Since then, I’ve become a passionate defender of it as one of the absolute best portrayals of Kara Zor-El in her 66-year comic history. And as such, it’s no surprise that James Gunn is turning to this comic as the inspiration for the upcoming Supergirl movie of the same name.

Although it's a relatively recent addition to Kara’s comic history, Woman of Tomorrow can undeniably be considered one of, if not the most, important stories of Supergirl.

The Arrowverse was one of the best live-action DC Universe ever made, featuring an impressive array of characters from comics, which meant several did not get the appreciation they deserved. Long before the Dcu was formed, some of the best representation of DC heroes came from The CW. In 2012, Arrow premiered and highlighted one of the lesser known and appreciated heroes from DC to the forefront. Then in 2014, the Arrowverse expanded with the introduction of The Flash, and things began to accelerate from there.

With multiple DC shows, the potential for crossovers and expansion began. Grant Gustin's Flash became a friend to Stephen Amell's Green Arrow, and more heroes joined the fray to hold back the biggest threats to their worlds. However, over the course of over 10 years, with six TV shows in the official lineup and a handful of others that crossed over, not every character got a chance to truly shine.

The Dcu hasn't taken shape as quickly as some fans would have liked, though 2023's Hollywood strikes did little to help with that. Superman, however, is post-production and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has just started shooting in the UK. 

Peacemaker season 2 also hits Max later this year and cameras are expected to roll on Lanterns any month now. 

So, there's lots to look forward to and, according to insider Daniel Richtman, the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow script is "so good" that DC Studios boss James Gunn is eager to get writer Ana Nogueira involved in multiple Dcu projects. 

As you may recall, she was attached to write the Supergirl movie meant to spin out of the events of The Flash, with Sahsa Calle tapped to star. That project was scrapped but she's clearly been impressing DC executives for a while now. 

As for Jason Momoa's Lobo, while he's only...

Lobo is set to make a brief appearance in Supergirl, but he won’t be a major part of the story. His role is expected to be small, so don’t expect him to take up much screen time alongside Supergirl.

However, there’s something exciting in the works. Rumors suggest that Lobo might star in his own project in the future.

This could be a movie or a show, but nothing is confirmed just yet. It’s still early, so we’ll have to wait and see how things develop.

Warner Bros is reportedly in the early stages of developing new Goonies and Gremlins films, according to a new report.

The Goonies is a seminal 80s film. About a group of kids hunting for lost treasure, it’s a classic adventure whose popularity shows no signs of abating. Gremlins – technically a Christmas film, for those who enjoy such debates – and its sequel A New Batch are favourites too. The original was controversial on release for being marketed more as a family film than the dark comedy it actually was.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros has a huge number of films on its slate, but hidden among the sequels and reboots which have already been announced is a brief mention of new films in the Goonies and Gremlins franchises. The full quote reads as follows:

He penned the series this movie is based on and, on social media, wrote: "As filming begins on Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, here's the unlettered cover to issue 1. I think genius [Bilquis Evely] first image drawn from the book. Nailed it right out of the gate."

Best known these days for directing Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies, Chris Columbus was also the screenwriter behind two enduring ’80s classics: Gremlins and The Goonies, both of which were released by Warner Bros. and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. Now, according to a new report on Deadline, Warner Bros. is developing new Gremlins and The Goonies films, with Columbus attached to at least one of those projects.

Deadline wrote that, at Warner Bros., “Franchise hopes abound down the road in Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Practical Magic 2, DC’s Clayface and Supergirl, Drew Goddard’s incoming script for a new Matrix, a new Gremlins from Christopher Columbus and a Goonies treatment.”

Directed by Joe Dante from Columbus’s script, Gremlins had the following synopsis: A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown.

That movie was of course Joe Dante’s bonkers 1990 sequel to the 1984 classic, with the franchise more recently returning to life with two seasons of an animated prequel series: “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” in 2022 and follow-up “Gremlins: The Wild Batch” last year.

Exclusive: Faran Tahir will appear in the Paul Bettany-led series Vision Quest, a WandaVision spinoff series for Disney+, sources confirm to Deadline.

Tahir will reprise the role of the villainous Raza, leader of the terrorist organization the 10 Rings who tried to kill Tony Stark in Iron Man.

Details are scarce on the new project, but as we previously reported, the Marvel Vision spinoff has been in development at Disney+ since 2022 and was picked up to series in May. It is believed to be centered on Vision (Bettany) as he tries to regain his memory and humanity. After Thanos killed him in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, Vision returned in 2021’s WandaVision.

In addition to Bettany returning to the role he has played in three Marvel films and in WandaVision, James Spader will reprise his MCU role of Ultron. Todd Stashwick will also appear in an undisclosed role.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently building out a new DC Cinematic Universe, which will kick off in earnest with a new Superman movie, directed by Gunn, this July. The Superman movie will costar House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock (Young Rhaenyra Targaryen) as Supergirl, who will then get her own solo feature.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is based on Tom King's comic book of the same name, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. According to Screen Daily, it's not begun filming at Leavesden Studios in England. Leavesden Studios is also where a lot of House of the Dragon is filmed, so maybe Alcock will be able to hang out with some of her old castmates when the third season of that show starts shooting soon.

DC’s next superhero title Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow has begun filming in the UK this week for Warner Bros.

Milly Alcock stars as the eponymous hero in an origin story following her journey before travelling to Earth. Jason Momoa recently joined the cast, marking his return to the DC Universe following his Aquaman stint, though he will portray a different character this time around - the film’s antihero, Lobo. Further cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley.

Supergirl is shooting at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden with Craig Gillespie directing. The screenplay is adapted by Ana Nogueira from Tom King’s 2022 comic book.

Tom Welling, best known for his role as Clark Kent on Smallville, recently discussed his reluctance to appear as his iconic character in the Arrowverse before 2019. During his appearance at Fan Expo New Orleans, Welling explained why he turned down earlier opportunities to reprise the role.

He revealed that while he received calls from the Arrowverse producers, they weren’t for acting but for playing Clark Kent specifically. He felt strongly that Clark’s character would not fit into those shows without losing something important from Smallville‘s vision.

Although Smallville was a key part of the foundation for the Arrowverse, Welling was careful not to disrupt what had already been established. If he had appeared as Superman in Supergirl’s second season, it could have changed the direction of the Arrowverse, especially with Tyler Hoechlin cast as Superman in that role and the Superman & Lois series later emerging.

Supergirl is far more than just Superman's long-lost cousin. Sure, in full transparency, when Supergirl made her first appearance at DC Comics, that's essentially what she was.

Those days are long gone, as the modern Supergirl is wiser, more mature, and stands on her own two feet as a competent solo star. While Supergirl has respectfully distanced herself as more than just a Superman counterpart, they share many similar characteristics. For example, as much as Superman can be argued as DC's most inspirational hero, Supergirl's best lines and moments prove she is every bit as inspiring as the Man of Steel.

As much as Kara Zor-El cannot be overlooked for her achievements as Supergirl, readers also can't forget the Silver Age human who adopted the mantle when Kara died.

Shorty after the first trailer for James Gunn's Superman was released, we got word that a slightly different version was playing in IMAX theaters, and that teaser has now been shared online in 4K quality.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins shooting in the UK next week and it's looking increasingly likely that the movie will feature more than one Kryptonian.

According to popular David Corenswet fansite @corenswetmedia, the actor has been spotted in London just days before cameras begin rolling on the Girl of Steel's Dcu movie. While nothing is confirmed at this stage, it makes sense for Superman to show up, especially with Krypto set to join Kara on her cosmic adventure.

James Gunn has said Krypto is a "pretty terrible dog" in the Dcu, so Kal-El handing him off to his cousin to see if she can reign him in makes sense. It's previously been reported that Supergirl actor Milly Alcock will debut in Superman so this won't be their first meeting.

With the recent announcement of Jason Momoa’s role as Lobo, he became the first major actor from the Dceu to land a role in James Gunn’s new universe. However, it is not just Momoa who has appeared in multiple DC movies in different roles. Gunn has worked on the Dceu project, The Suicide Squad, and is likely to bring his frequent collaborators to the new Dcu.

As Superman's July 2025 release date approaches and more official footage and promotional material arrives, other Dcu projects also move forward in their production. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow's cast keeps growing with the addition of characters such as Jason Momoa's Lobo and Matthias Schoenaerts' Krem, for instance, and it's just a matter of time until an official poster and an official trailer come out.

James Gunn’s Superman is bringing a lot of elements together. The film is set to introduce several new characters to the Dcu, like Guy Gardner and Eve Teschmacher, as well as aspects of the character that took years to be brought into live action like Superdog and Supergirl being in the first film. With this, it is not surprising that the film has become one of the most anticipated releases of 2025.

However, it would seem that introductions and reunions aren’t only happening on-screen. Two cast members from the project allegedly had their lives tangled long before they were brought into this film. In fact, they were apparently engaged.

Last month, DC Studios announced plans for a Clayface movie that will arrive in theaters on September 11, 2026. Midnight Mass and Doctor Sleep's Mike Flanagan has penned the screenplay, though no director or star has been announced. 

According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, a director is expected to be chosen early this month with shooting potentially beginning either at the end of this month or by February.

That's a very quick turnaround, though DC Studios co-ceo and Superman director James Gunn did recently share, "Exciting news out of [DC] Studios today as [Clayface], a Dcu story from a script by Mike Flanagan, has been Officially greenlit. Clayface premieres in 2026."

With the script ready to shoot and the project expected to be a relatively low-budget one, it likely won't take long to find a director and cast (all of whom may already be in talks).
