In news that I feel like most of us already knew but which is now "confirmed," The Hollywood Reporter has it that Milly Alcock, who played Young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, will appear as Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in the upcoming Superman movie, which lands in theaters on July 11, 2025. She'll likely only show up for a cameo, but she'll be there, alongside other DC heroes like Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced).
Some fans worry that the movie is overloading itself with characters. This movie is supposed to be about Superman, right? It makes sense that folks like Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) will show up, but who are all these other people?

Earlier this week, we got word on two late casting additions for DC Studios' Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) and Emily Beecham (Into The Badlands) joining the production.
The original report only mentioned that Krumholtz and Beecham would play "Supergirl's parents," but didn't clarify if they'd been cast as Kara's biological mother and father Alura and Zor-El, or her human adoptive parents, Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers.
The former always seemed more likely since the Danvers were introduced much later (2016) in the comics, and Krumholtz has now taken to social media to confirm that he is indeed set to play Zor-El.
"I was that kid. Overflowing drawers full of comics… escaping into worlds unknown… imagining myself having powers that would benefit the greater good. Joining the DC Universe is a mindblowing privilege. Representing the symbol of hope in Supergirl as Zor-El is a personal triumph. My gratitude overflowing now,...

The decision to exclude Grant Gustin from The Flash movie seems far more understandable in light of the director’s recent remarks about the Dceu film’s poor box office performance. Released in 2023, The Flash was a highly anticipated entrant in the Dceu timeline but ultimately underperformed, leaving Warner Bros. and audiences wondering where things went wrong. Director Andy Muschietti’s comments have shed new light on the decision-making process behind the movie. His remarks not only explain why Gustin wasn’t involved but also underscore a larger issue with how The Flash handled its central character.
Grant Gustin became synonymous with the Flash after playing the character for nine seasons of The Flash TV series, which premiered in 2014 as part of the Arrowverse. The show’s success was instrumental in building the Arrowverse into a shared television universe that included Arrow, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. Given the longevity...

With the hype surrounding James Gunn’s upcoming Supergirl movie, it’s no surprise that people are becoming more interested in Superman’s cousin. However, it’s well past time for fans to get to know Kara Zor-El beyond just her relation to the Man of Steel. Whether you're new to Woman of Tomorrow or simply looking for the best Supergirl comic to dive into, you’ve come to the right place.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is, without a doubt, one of DC’s most brilliantly executed stories.
Supergirl has 66 years of comic history, along with a wealth of live-action and animated adaptations that have further cemented her place in pop culture. With so much content out there—plus her appearances in other characters' storylines—it can feel overwhelming to know where to begin when diving into her comics.

Superman is a character that needs no introduction, as he's become one of the most popular characters in all of fiction. His iconic costume, especially his "S" symbol (a.k.a. the House of El's coat of arms), is revered throughout the world, and the character is still being discussed and adapted into movies and TV to this very day.
Actor David Corenswet is the next actor to put on the red cape in this summer's Superman film, directed by one of the heads of DC Studios James Gunn. Promotion for the film has begun and, with the release of the teaser for the movie just recently, now would be a good time to discuss which actor portrayed Superman the best in the character's many incarnations.

Though we still haven't had an official announcement, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is now filming in London, and THR has shared the news of two late casting additions.
David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) and Emily Beecham (Into The Badlands) have joined the production as Kara Zor-El's parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze.
Update: The original report only mentions that Beecham and Krumholtz are playing "Supergirl's parents," so there's a chance they have actually been cast as Kara's human adoptive parents, Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers.
The trade has also confirmed that Milly Alcock will make her Dcu debut as the Girl of Steel in James Gunn's Superman.
While speaking to Omelette.com in a recent interview, Gunn said he had no intention of making Kara Zor-El's solo outing the second Dcu film until he read the script by actress and playwright Ana Nogueira.

THR reports that David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) and Emily Beecham (1899) have joined the cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Production on the DC Studios film will officially kick off this week with Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) starring as Kara Zor-El.
Krumholtz and Beecham will be playing Supergirl’s parents in the film, who are known as Zor-El and Alura in the comics. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be directed by Craig Gillespie and scripted by Ana Nogueira. It’s based on the comic series of the same name written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. David Krumholtz, who was recently part of the all-star cast of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and British actress Emily Beecham have joined the space-faring cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Craig Gillespie is directing for Warner Bros. Discovery arm DC Studios.
The feature, which began shooting this week in DC’s UK production hub of Leavesden, is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic book mini-series and stars House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock playing Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman.
It’s unclear how faithful the script by Ana Nogueira is to the comic, which eschewed the traditional good vs. bad tropes and instead was a cosmic character piece, spanning many worlds and alien cultures. Filmmaker Jeannot Szwarc earned directing credits on 80 different projects over the course of a career that spanned more than 50 years – but most movie fans will likely remember him as the director of the shark thriller sequel Jaws 2, the time travel romance Somewhere in Time, and/or the DC Comics adaptation Supergirl. Sadly, Szwarc is no longer with us, as his Somewhere in Time star Jane Seymour took to social media to confirm that he has passed away at the age of 85. Seymour wrote, “Today, we say goodbye to a true visionary. Jeannot Szwarc was not just a brilliant director but a kind and generous soul. A French filmmaker best known to horror fans for directing the first sequel to Steven Spielberg’s Jaws back in 1978, Jeannot Szwarc has passed away at the age of 85 this week.
Jane Seymour, who starred alongside the late Christopher Reeve in Szwarc’s 1980 film Somewhere in Time, writes on Facebook: “Today, we say goodbye to a true visionary. Jeannot Szwarc got his start in Hollywood directing for multiple television shows throughout the late 1960s and into the 1970s including “Ironside,” “It Takes a Thief,” “Paris 7000,” “The Virginian,” “Longstreet” and “Marcus Welby, M.D.” He made his feature debut with the 1972 TV movie Night of Terror,...

French director Jeannot Szwarc has died, it’s been announced. He was 85 years old.
Understandably, the film world is mourning the loss overnight of one of its true greats, David Lynch. Lost a little though is that a fine genre director also passed away.
French director Jeannot Szwarc died on Wednesday 15th January, it was announced, at the age of 85.
Born in Paris, Swarc moved to America and cut his teeth on popular television shows such as Kojak and The Rockford Files. But for the movie-going generation of the 1970s and 1980s, it was his feature films that drew the most attention.
His big break was arguably 1978’s Jaws 2 (pictured), getting the nod when Steven Spielberg declined the opportunity to return to the sequel (and after original director John Hancock was fired). Perhaps his most acclaimed American film followed, 1980’s Somewhere In Time, starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

I’ll be the first to admit that I was never the biggest fan of Supergirl—until I read Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Since then, I’ve become a passionate defender of it as one of the absolute best portrayals of Kara Zor-El in her 66-year comic history. And as such, it’s no surprise that James Gunn is turning to this comic as the inspiration for the upcoming Supergirl movie of the same name.

The Arrowverse was one of the best live-action DC Universe ever made, featuring an impressive array of characters from comics, which meant several did not get the appreciation they deserved. Long before the Dcu was formed, some of the best representation of DC heroes came from The CW. In 2012, Arrow premiered and highlighted one of the lesser known and appreciated heroes from DC to the forefront. Then in 2014, the Arrowverse expanded with the introduction of The Flash, and things began to accelerate from there.
With multiple DC shows, the potential for crossovers and expansion began. Grant Gustin's Flash became a friend to Stephen Amell's Green Arrow, and more heroes joined the fray to hold back the biggest threats to their worlds. However, over the course of over 10 years, with six TV shows in the official lineup and a handful of others that crossed over, not every character got a chance to truly shine.

The Dcu hasn't taken shape as quickly as some fans would have liked, though 2023's Hollywood strikes did little to help with that. Superman, however, is post-production and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has just started shooting in the UK.
Peacemaker season 2 also hits Max later this year and cameras are expected to roll on Lanterns any month now.
So, there's lots to look forward to and, according to insider Daniel Richtman, the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow script is "so good" that DC Studios boss James Gunn is eager to get writer Ana Nogueira involved in multiple Dcu projects.
As you may recall, she was attached to write the Supergirl movie meant to spin out of the events of The Flash, with Sahsa Calle tapped to star. That project was scrapped but she's clearly been impressing DC executives for a while now.

Lobo is set to make a brief appearance in Supergirl, but he won’t be a major part of the story. His role is expected to be small, so don’t expect him to take up much screen time alongside Supergirl.
However, there’s something exciting in the works. Rumors suggest that Lobo might star in his own project in the future.
This could be a movie or a show, but nothing is confirmed just yet. It’s still early, so we’ll have to wait and see how things develop.

Warner Bros is reportedly in the early stages of developing new Goonies and Gremlins films, according to a new report.
The Goonies is a seminal 80s film. About a group of kids hunting for lost treasure, it’s a classic adventure whose popularity shows no signs of abating. Gremlins – technically a Christmas film, for those who enjoy such debates – and its sequel A New Batch are favourites too. We're hoping an official first look at the Maiden of Might's return to the big screen will be shared any day now. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely we'll get many set photos with most of the action set in the cosmos.

Best known these days for directing Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies, Chris Columbus was also the screenwriter behind two enduring ’80s classics: Gremlins and The Goonies, both of which were released by Warner Bros. and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. Now, according to a new report on Deadline, Warner Bros. is developing new Gremlins and The Goonies films, with Columbus attached to at least one of those projects.
Deadline wrote that, at Warner Bros., “Franchise hopes abound down the road in Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Practical Magic 2, DC’s Clayface and Supergirl, Drew Goddard’s incoming script for a new Matrix, a new Gremlins from Christopher Columbus and a Goonies treatment.”
Directed by Joe Dante from Columbus’s script, Gremlins had the following synopsis: A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown.

Can you believe it’s been 35 years since a Gremlins movie rampaged up on the big screen? That movie was of course Joe Dante’s bonkers 1990 sequel to the 1984 classic, with the franchise more recently returning to life with two seasons of an animated prequel series: “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” in 2022 and follow-up “Gremlins: The Wild Batch” last year.
But is the animated series setting the stage for a return of the Gremlins to live action? According to a new article from Deadline today that takes an expansive look at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s near future plans, a new Gremlins movie may indeed be coming soon.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently building out a new DC Cinematic Universe, which will kick off in earnest with a new Superman movie, directed by Gunn, this July. The Superman movie will costar House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock (Young Rhaenyra Targaryen) as Supergirl, who will then get her own solo feature.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is based on Tom King's comic book of the same name, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. According to Screen Daily, it's not begun filming at Leavesden Studios in England. Leavesden Studios is also where a lot of House of the Dragon is filmed, so maybe Alcock will be able to hang out with some of her old castmates when the third season of that show starts shooting soon.

Recent reports indicated that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow would begin shooting this week, and we now have confirmation (via Screen Daily) that production is indeed underway on what will be the second Dcu movie to hit theaters following James Gunn's Superman.
We were hoping for an official announcement (and maybe even a first look) from either James Gunn or director Craig Gillespie, but nothing yet. It sounds like we'll also be waiting a while for some set photos, as filming is believed to be taking place on indoor soundstages at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in London.
Star Milly Alcock did share a photo to her Instagram page, confirming that she is now in London. The House of the Dragon actress was careful not to reveal her Girl of Steel hairdo in the snap, however.

DC’s next superhero title Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow has begun filming in the UK this week for Warner Bros.
Milly Alcock stars as the eponymous hero in an origin story following her journey before travelling to Earth. Jason Momoa recently joined the cast, marking his return to the DC Universe following his Aquaman stint, though he will portray a different character this time around - the film’s antihero, Lobo. Further cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley.
Supergirl is shooting at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden with Craig Gillespie directing. The screenplay is adapted by Ana Nogueira from Tom King’s 2022 comic book.

Tom Welling, best known for his role as Clark Kent on Smallville, recently discussed his reluctance to appear as his iconic character in the Arrowverse before 2019. During his appearance at Fan Expo New Orleans, Welling explained why he turned down earlier opportunities to reprise the role.
He revealed that while he received calls from the Arrowverse producers, they weren’t for acting but for playing Clark Kent specifically. He felt strongly that Clark’s character would not fit into those shows without losing something important from Smallville‘s vision.
Although Smallville was a key part of the foundation for the Arrowverse, Welling was careful not to disrupt what had already been established. If he had appeared as Superman in Supergirl’s second season, it could have changed the direction of the Arrowverse, especially with Tyler Hoechlin cast as Superman in that role and the Superman & Lois series later emerging.

Supergirl is far more than just Superman's long-lost cousin. Sure, in full transparency, when Supergirl made her first appearance at DC Comics, that's essentially what she was.
Those days are long gone, as the modern Supergirl is wiser, more mature, and stands on her own two feet as a competent solo star. While Supergirl has respectfully distanced herself as more than just a Superman counterpart, they share many similar characteristics. For example, as much as Superman can be argued as DC's most inspirational hero, Supergirl's best lines and moments prove she is every bit as inspiring as the Man of Steel.
“There’s no cure for that. It’s called being human” Supergirl (1996) #63 by Peter David, Leonard Kirk, Robin Riggs, Gene D'Angelo, Digital Chameleon, and Bill Oakley.
As much as Kara Zor-El cannot be overlooked for her achievements as Supergirl, readers also can't forget the Silver Age human who adopted the mantle when Kara died.

Shorty after the first trailer for James Gunn's Superman was released, we got word that a slightly different version was playing in IMAX theaters, and that teaser has now been shared online in 4K quality.
The new shots of Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi) have previously been released in Gif form, but this is the first time we're seeing them in the actual trailer itself. There also appears to be a brief new glimpse of the Man of Steel (David Corenswet) as he fights his way out of Luthor's stronghold.
It's probably going to be a while before we get another full trailer for the movie, but it was recently confirmed that a new sneak peek will air during the annual Puppy Bowl on Sunday, February 9, with Gunn and his dog Ozu introducing a Superman preview (along with a "special message") that will almost certainly feature Krypto in some capacity.

Smallville was one of the most beloved television series that the DC Universe has ever made, and many of the decisions that were seen as controversial during its release have since aged spectacularly well. Even during the worst of Smallville's ranked seasons, the show made some daring choices with the Superman mythos that wound up being for the best. Looking back at many of the details that the show explored in unusual ways, it is surprising how well many of these choices have aged.
Smallville set the template not just for Superman stories in the 21st century, but for an interconnected DC Universe as a whole. While some DC characters were wasted in Smallville, many others were used with precision and contributed to the show's overall narrative. The Arrowverse featured some of the biggest and best interconnected storytelling that the DC Universe has ever seen, yet many of the iconic characters that appeared were criminally underutilized. Some of the best Arrowverse shows contributed to some of the most popular versions of these heroes, turning characters like Green Arrow and Batwoman into the leads of major TV series. With that said, even with so much time to tell great stories, the expansion and use of so many characters was at the expense of a few.
Arrowverse crossovers were common within the franchise, creating a cohesive world that felt consistent across its several series. However, while the comics had decades upon decades to develop their supporting casts, each television series had a comparatively much shorter run. This left some figures with less development, due to the more limited timeframe the franchise had to execute their stories. The most significant...

Andy Muschietti recently confirmed two things: The Brave and the Bold is not coming until after 2027 at least, and Robert Pattinson, at least for now, is not going to be Batman in the Dcu. While it’s disappointing that the Dcu will lack a Batman movie for at least the first three years of its existence, it’s at least good to know there is some kind of plan.
However, it would just be strange to build an interconnected DC movie universe and completely exclude Batman, easily DC’s most popular character and, arguably, the most popular comic book character of all time. Maybe, instead of giving the Dcu Batman his own movie to compete with The Batman Part II, Batman’s Dcu role could be to appear in other character’s movies before he gets his own similar to Hulk or Fury in the MCU.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins shooting in the UK next week and it's looking increasingly likely that the movie will feature more than one Kryptonian.
According to popular David Corenswet fansite @corenswetmedia, the actor has been spotted in London just days before cameras begin rolling on the Girl of Steel's Dcu movie. While nothing is confirmed at this stage, it makes sense for Superman to show up, especially with Krypto set to join Kara on her cosmic adventure.
James Gunn has said Krypto is a "pretty terrible dog" in the Dcu, so Kal-El handing him off to his cousin to see if she can reign him in makes sense. It's previously been reported that Supergirl actor Milly Alcock will debut in Superman so this won't be their first meeting.

According to a Smallville writer, the Superman show almost had an episode centered around a female Justice League made up of several powerful superheroes previously introduced throughout the DC series. Smallville ran through ten seasons from 2001 to 2011, following Tom Welling's young Clark Kent as he adapted to his powers and the increasingly dangerous world around him. Although Smallville was conceived as a Superman prequel show, it covered a big part of the Man of Steel's DC lore, with entire arcs focusing on some of his most famous storylines, villains, and supporting characters from the comics.

Jason Momoa was recently cast in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and I'm shocked that he predicted his own role before the previous DC Extended Universe had even come to an end. As the cast of Supergirl begins to fill, with filming slated to start soon, the actor joins an incredible slate that may wind up being important parts of the new universe. After an important place as Aquaman in the previous universe, it seems likely that Jason Momoa's new character may be a central figure in this new world.

Jason Mamoa is gearing up to return to our screens as a comic character, and it’s not the one we’ve already grown attached and familiar with. Yup, like very rare actors, Mamoa has managed to snag superhero roles in both DC and Marvel.
The rare other names are Ryan Reynolds and Ben Affleck – Ryan Reynolds for ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘Deadpool’ and Ben Affleck as ‘Dare Devil’ and ‘Batman.’ So here’s what we know about Mamoa’s new role.
Jason Mamoa Calls New Role In ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ The “Perfect Character”
Jason Mamoa has played a few heroes and villains during his many years in the spotlight, but a foul-mouthed intergalactic bounty hunter, or anti-hero if you’re into that sort of thing, is definitely a new new for him.
Deadline first reported the news of the ‘Aquaman’ star’s casting, with ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ set...

Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Creature Commandos.
As the first entry into the Dcu, Creature Commandos might have been a very odd choice. However, a show starring some of DC’s deepest cuts has managed to be the light of hope that the fandom needed after the disaster of the Dceu. However, the show’s hard R rating, along with all that it has depicted, bodes well for what it has in store for one other character who was recently confirmed for the Dcu.

Fans are sort of miffed by how Victor Frankenstein treated Eric in the show, but the only thing that his scenes with The Bride have done is allow fans to see how far the Dcu is going to go for its more R-rated characters. While the MCU is only now entering the TV-ma and R-rated space,...

Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El recreates David Corenswet's first Superman poster in a fan-made Dcu poster for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. As Superman's July 2025 release date approaches and more official footage and promotional material arrives, other Dcu projects also move forward in their production. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow's cast keeps growing with the addition of characters such as Jason Momoa's Lobo and Matthias Schoenaerts' Krem, for instance, and it's just a matter of time until an official poster and an official trailer come out.
Inspired by the Dcu's first official poster for James Gunn's Superman, MegaversoPop designs a similar promotional image for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which depicts Milly Alcock's Supergirl flying into the sky with vibrant streaks of light around her. James Gunn’s Superman is bringing a lot of elements together. The film is set to introduce several new characters to the Dcu, like Guy Gardner and Eve Teschmacher, as well as aspects of the character that took years to be brought into live action like Superdog and Supergirl being in the first film. With this, it is not surprising that the film has become one of the most anticipated releases of 2025.

However, it would seem that introductions and reunions aren’t only happening on-screen. Two cast members from the project allegedly had their lives tangled long before they were brought into this film. In fact, they were apparently engaged.

Long before James Gunn’s Superman was even a concept, Mikaela Hoover and Nathan Fillion were involved with each other.

Last month, DC Studios announced plans for a Clayface movie that will arrive in theaters on September 11, 2026. Midnight Mass and Doctor Sleep's Mike Flanagan has penned the screenplay, though no director or star has been announced.
According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, a director is expected to be chosen early this month with shooting potentially beginning either at the end of this month or by February.
That's a very quick turnaround, though DC Studios co-ceo and Superman director James Gunn did recently share, "Exciting news out of [DC] Studios today as [Clayface], a Dcu story from a script by Mike Flanagan, has been Officially greenlit. Clayface premieres in 2026."
With the script ready to shoot and the project expected to be a relatively low-budget one, it likely won't take long to find a director and cast (all of whom may already be in talks).
Why is Clayface shooting so soon? Well, the majority...
