Apple TV and Peacock, Two Streamers That Could Use a Subscriber Bump, Are Teaming Up
Image
If reports are to be believed, Apple TV has about 45 million subscribers. Peacock last quarter saw no growth and was stuck with just 41 million subscribers. Peacock in its Q2 lost $101 million, and Apple TV potentially loses as much as $1 billion a year.

These are two streamers that can use a boost, and now they’re helping each other.

Apple and NBCUniversal announced on Thursday a bundle between Apple TV and Peacock (no plusses to be found anywhere), beginning on October 20. For $14.99 a month, you can now get both Apple TV and Peacock Premium (the one with ads), which is a savings of over 30 percent on buying them both individually. Upgrading to the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus bundled with Apple TV (which still does not have any ads) costs $19.99 a month. Apple is also going a step further and allowing people who get Apple One, which combines all of Apple’s services,...

Apple TV And Peacock Form Streaming Bundle Starting At $15 A Month

Apple TV and Peacock will be available starting next week in a bundled offering starting at $14.99 a month.

NBCUniversal and Apple said customers will save more than 30% off the full retail prices for the service, which hits the market on Monday. Apple TV is ad-free and it can be combined with the ad-supported Peacock Premium or the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus. The latter plan costs $19.99 a month.

For NBCU, the deal follows comprehensive distribution deals with Amazon and Google/YouTube and starts in time for the arrival of the NBA. A regular selection of games under the long-term rights deal will be exclusively available on Peacock.

For Apple, the partnership follows the decision to drop the “plus” from the name of the 6-year-old streaming service. The teaming is also unique for Apple in that it gives subscribers to the Family or Premier tiers of Apple One a 35% discount. While Apple...

Apple TV+ has plenty of comedies, but none hit like Ted’s mix of warmth, heart, and optimism.

Just signed up for Apple TV+ and wondering where the best place to start is for something light and funny? I have the answer. And Now Luke Wilson, Like Brother Owen, Is Playing a Pro Golfer in a Streaming Comedy Series
Image
The Wilsons are halfway to a regular foursome.

Luke Wilson is joining Will Ferrell’s untitled Netflix golf comedy series, the streamer revealed on Friday. Wilson will play a pro golfer who has beaten Ferrell’s character for the tour championship twice.

Why does (most of) that sentence sound so familiar? Oh, right: Owen Wilson currently stars in a streaming comedy series, Apple TV+ show Stick, as a former pro golfer. Owen Wilson is Luke Wilson’s (three-years-older) big brother.

The Netflix series stars Ferrell as a fictional golf legend. Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro and Fortune Feimster have been previously announced as co-stars — not much more is known than that.

Perhaps surprisingly, the 10-episode Netflix golf comedy marks Ferrell’s first TV comedy series — you know, other than one very famous and long-running TV sketch-comedy series. The coming series marks the latest collaboration between former Saturday Night Live cast mates Shannon and Ferrell.

William Zabka to Katy Perry: Every How I Met Your Mother Celebrity Cameo, Ranked
Image
The world of sitcoms got a breath of fresh air in 2005 when How I Met Your Mother premiered. While the show used a familiar premise, a group of friends who are also roommates hanging out at a favorite hangout and exploring life in the city, the modern-day twist, sharp humor, and relatable lifestyles made it stand out.

Created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the series followed Barney’s outrageous, often misogynistic antics, Ted Mosby’s loverboy phase, Lily and Marshall’s high-school-like romance, and Robin’s nonchalant, tomboyish vibe making each storyline feel fresh and engaging.

To keep things exciting, the show regularly featured guest appearances from some of the biggest names in entertainment.

The Hollywood Legend Who Almost Played Jason Bourne Before Matt Damon

Burt Reynolds was one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood at the outset of the 1980s thanks to a decade-long stretch of hits that included "Deliverance" (in a role that almost went to Marlon Brando), "White Lightning," "The Longest Yard," and, of course, "Smokey and the Bandit." He was at his best playing cocksure lawbreakers who thwarted the corrupt or unjust will of stuffy authority figures. He was the best kind of scoundrel.

And yet, like many movie stars, Reynolds got bored with playing something close to the same character picture after picture. So, he attempted to broaden his appeal by appearing as a suave jewel thief in "Rough Cut,...

Russell Crowe’s Long-Awaited WWII Epic Hit With Shocking Rotten Tomatoes Score Following Oscar Buzz

Russell Crowe’s newest WWII movie recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and after his performance began earning Oscar buzz after the first showings, the film has hit a roadblock. At the time of writing, Nuremberg sits at a Rotten 50% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film won’t have an audience score until it premieres in theaters later this year on November 7.

Before Alien: Earth, Timothy Olyphant Played a Cyborg in Forgotten Terminator Anime

Before stepping into Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth, Timothy Olyphant had already explored the sci-fi cyborg territory, voicing a Terminator in Netflix’s Terminator Zero. Released in 2024, the anime miniseries follows Professor Malcolm Lee, who builds an AI defense network to protect humanity, but standing in his way is a ruthless new model of Terminator.

Unlike the human characters Olyphant is popularly known for, like Dick in Fargo and Raylan in Justified, his portrayal of a robot brought uniqueness and depth to his versatility. As a Terminator, his voice carried mechanical menace, which he now infuses into Kirsh in Alien: Earth.

California Awards $256 Million in TV Tax Credits as ‘The Studio’ Snags $13 Million for Season 2
Image
Hollywood loves nothing so much as self-satire — except maybe getting somebody else to help pay for it.

Yes, “The Studio” is returning for a second season, this time with $13 million in support from the state of California.

The Apple TV+ show was one of 22 productions awarded a total of $256 million in state tax credits on Wednesday. This is the first allocation since the state expanded its filming incentive to $750 million overall in June — triggering a surge of interest from the studios.

According to the California Film Commission, applications leaped nearly 400% compared to the prior round for TV shows. Perhaps more noteworthy, no qualified projects were turned away.

“The Studio” is among the first to qualify under new eligibility rules that allow credits to go to half-hour shows. In the past, TV shows had to have episodes of at least 40 minutes to qualify — with exceptions for shows like “Veep” that were relocating from other states.

Invasion Season 3: Apple TV+’s Underrated Sci-Fi Series Rises On Streaming Charts
Image
Apple TV+ is steadily diversifying its portfolio. Known at one point for star-driven limited series and sci-fi epics, the platform is carving out space for itself in the comedy space. Platonic and The Studio are among the well-liked comedies of the year. The platform is already fortifying the ranks of its returning dramas, with The Morning Show, Slow Horses, and Presumed Innocent.

But despite the early positive buzz around new comedies like Owen Wilson's Stick and Vince Vaughn's Bad Monkey, it's hard to deny Apple's specific focus on sci-fi. Between originals like Severance and Silo, to Dark Matter and For All Mankind, there is variance within the genre itself.

According to a report from the San-Antonio Express News, Sheridan has selected Ferris, Texas as the shooting location of his new Yellowstone spin-off, which is being called at this time Rio Palo (Spanish for "Stick River"), but that may just be a placeholder and not the show's actual title. The small town sits 20 miles south of downtown Dallas and is home to just 5,000 people.

"Ferris helped build Texas and the nation," said City Manager Brooks Williams in a statement, adding: "Paramount's decision to film here is one more chapter in that story.

Apple TV+'s Taron Egerton-led crime drama Smokekeeps lighting up the streaming charts.

Per Flix Patrol, Smoke is still holding strong in the number five place on the list of the top ten streaming series available on Apple TV+. Created by Dennis Lahane and based on the podcast Firebug, which explored the crimes of real-life arsonist John Leonard Orr, Smoke stars Taron Egerton as Dave Gudsen, an arson investigator and former firefighter who teams up with Jurnee Smollett's Detective Michelle Calderone in uncovering the truth about a string of fire attacks in the fictional city of Umberland. Star of 92% Rotten Tomatoes Western Classic Shares Strong Reaction to Possible Reboot
Image
Reboots, remakes, and reimaginings have dominated the big and small screens lately, making some decry a lack of originality in Hollywood. However, at least one person with some reboot experience isn't bothered: actor Timothy Olyphant. The Deadwoodstar is currently starring in Alien: Earth, the long-running science fiction franchise's first foray into television.

In a new interview, Olyphant likens Hollywood's franchise fixation to stage revivals: "...everybody goes to Broadway to see the same couple plays every few years. It’s such a dumb, shallow argument to say Hollywood has no new ideas just because they’re rebooting things." Olyphant notes that the times he returned to past roles for new productions were thoroughly enjoyable: "Every experience I’ve had revisiting characters or working with the same people again, I’m batting a thousand in terms of it being really gratifying. I highly recommend it." Olyphant certainly has experience returning to his greatest hits.

Who the F*** Is Marc Maron Without Podcasting? He’s About to Find Out
Image
Most mornings, Marc Maron wakes up spiraling. Each turn of the globe brings a fresh catastrophe, a crisis, real or imagined, that sends the comedian back into battle with his tenacious anxiety. This isn’t great for mental health, but it does make for good material. And today, his psyche is playing the hits.

“I got cat problems,” Maron sighs, a Zyn pouch migrating from the inside of his left cheek to the right. “I’ve got one that’s just beating the shit out of another one, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. You want your home to be a place where you can relax.”

Photographed by Guy Aroch

Maybe the nicotine is helping with that. At least for the moment, Maron seems to surrender to the discord between two of his three roommates, though stand-up’s most famous cat guy is never not a little on edge.

‘Alien: Earth’ Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Who in the FX Series?
Image
After years of waiting and build-up, “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley’s ambitious new entry in the “Alien” franchise, FX’s “Alien: Earth,” has finally arrived. The series, which is set in the same universe as the other “Alien” films, drops viewers right into a dystopian future where Earth is controlled by a handful of all-powerful corporations and the humans who find themselves at their mercy are repeatedly subjected to reckless biological experimentation and unnecessary danger.

At the center of the series are characters with opposing interests, perspectives and goals. There are a lot of them, and they are played by actors you may or may not have ever seen before. With that in mind, here is your guide to who’s who in the new, long-awaited FX series.

‘Alien: Earth’ Star Timothy Olyphant Wants Everybody to Relax About Reboots
Image
“This process is similar to my acting,” says Timothy Olyphant. “It’s a little something I call winging it.”

The 57-year-old, a cultural fixture since the late ’90s who’s claimed to have found the absolute “sweet spot” of fame, is discussing his approach to ceramics at his Westside studio. And like that dig at his Hollywood career, he’s being modest. Olyphant majored in Studio Art at USC. If you frequent Los Angeles galleries, you might have spotted him — likely in a cowboy hat. “What a cry for attention,” he jokes. “The guy that’s played a cowboy most of his career wears a cowboy hat.”

After donning Western gear for lead roles in Deadwood, Justified and Fargo, the guy just looks good in a wide brim. But Olyphant, who shares three grown children with his wife of 34 years, is more than just a cowboy and budding ceramicist. He...

Jennifer Lopez & Owen Wilson's Marry Me Finds Streaming Success
Image
Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson have both led divisive careers, and they were in a movie together relatively recently. Lopez is known for starring in some notoriously terrible films, countless which hold rotten Tomatometer scores on Rotten Tomatoes, including Gigli, which is often regarded as one of the worst movies of all time.

At the same time, Lopez has been in several titles that have proved her critics wrong, legitimizing her as an actress. This was witnessed in the 2019 movie Hustlers, which really shows off Lopez's dramatic chops. Wilson has had a similarly divided career. For every hit like The Royal Tenenbaums, he has also made something like Are You Here or Marmaduke.

This has created a highly inconsistent reputation for the Midnight in Paris actor. Likewise, the recent romantic comedy collaboration between Lopez and Wilson split many critics. Now, a few years later, the movie is finding renewed success on streaming.

Apple TV+'s 'Ted Lasso' Replacement, 'Stick,' Loses Top Spot to the Irreplaceable Og
Image
It did not take long for Apple TV+, after its inception in 2019, to slowly but surely prove itself to be the home of high-quality prestige television, competing with the likes of HBO and FX. Among its latest offerings is the new sports comedy Stick, which took streaming by storm for a few weeks after its debut. The comedy premiered on June 4, wrapping up its debut season run towards the end of the following month, on July 22. Sports comedies are great, mixing the intense passion and competitiveness of elite sport with humorous comedy, delivering an excellent cocktail. However, while it might have dethroned it for a time, the Og sports comedy Ted Lassois making a comeback as it has overtaken Stick in the latest Apple TV+ rankings.

Stick tells the story of Pryce Cavill, a former pro golfer whose career goes downhill rapidly and unexpectedly nearly two decades ago. Pryce is played by Owen Wilson,...

Image
Into every generation a Slayer is born, and now the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has given her a name.

Per Deadline, Ryan Kiera Armstrong's new Slayer will be called Nova, describing her as "an introverted high-school student" who becomes the latest Chosen One to battle supernatural forces of evil. Additionally, the article confirmed actor Kingston Vernes will join the show as Nova's potential love interest Carson, a fellow student at New Sunnydale Academy who "starts noticing her after a life-changing event."

‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Makes Massive Netflix Debut While ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Breaks All the Streaming Rules | Chart
Image
Another week, another new Netflix title atop the Samba TV Wrap report streaming chart. It’s become old hat now: the streaming giant has held the No. 1 spot for eight straight weeks, with six different titles claiming the top spot.

The latest to take the throne is “Happy Gilmore 2,” the sequel to the classic Adam Sandler golf comedy that comes nearly 30 years after the original.

Netflix has bet big on Sandler, signing several deals that have paid his Happy Madison Productions an estimated half a billion dollars to produce films for the streamer. With 4.7 million households watching “Happy Gilmore 2” over the first weekend it was available — the biggest Netflix movie debut of 2025 so far — that is clearly money well spent.

As we mentioned above, “Happy Gilmore 2” is the sixth Netflix title to rise to the top spot over the past two months. The chart churn makes it...

This ‘Stick’ Character Is the Ted Lasso Villain All Over Again
Image
Apple TV+’s Stick revolves around the life of a former golfer, Pryce “Stick” Cahill, (Owen Wilson), who comes back to the field to mentor a talented amateur player. Disrupting his path of revival is a self-serving villain, whom fans have already drawn parallels with for the classic villain in Ted Lasso. Comparison between the two shows is inevitable considering their sports premise.

The emotional dynamics and the mentor-betrayal arc of the villains in Ted Lasso are mirrored by the presence of Clark Ross (Timothy Olyphant) in Stick. As the audience ponders the show’s wit and warmth, its sharply written antagonist character draws the same kind of tensions that Ted Lasso fans are all too familiar with.

How Stick’s Clark Ross Mirrors Nate Shelley and Rupert Mannion From Ted Lasso

Clark Ross is introduced as a charming, calculated character who makes it difficult for Pryce to redeem his career.
